The hackers hacked: main Anonymous IRC servers invaded

arstechnica.com

The main Internet chat servers used by Anonymous have been run by a group called "AnonOps," which provides communications platforms for the group. Pointing IRC clients at anonops.ru or anonops.net would connect anyone to the servers, where they could then join channels like "#OpSony" and participate in various Anon activities.

And the first true return volley has happened?

Or is this more theater?

With Anonymous harassing billion dollar companies and government-contracted associates alike; this could mark the beginning of a new struggle ... and we - by definition - are the bystanders in the street. The most likely to suffer from any move either side makes....

Damn dude, are we being hacked, this was posted like 6 times in a row.

Oh hmm, the duplicates went away, maybe a server burp or something.

Yeah, messing around with big money, brave, but not really smart. There are plenty of mercenary hackers out there, real hackers, not DDoS script kiddies.

Well i did say i needed to create some havoc across the net yesterday...

Well that was cool, but the truth is it was expected and overdue. IRC has been used for several purposes other than simply chat. It is a pipeline to some heavy coding that is, if you know what room to enter.

Yeah I used to hang out on IRC back in the day. Lots of bots serving up whatever you wanted if you knew what channel to go to.

I got a weird SQL error upon submission of the story. Thank goodness AshleyD was on the ball and chucked the empty duplicates away.....

Thanks for not panicking..... I know I almost did.

On a side note, is SQL errors daily here at a regular time? I never noticed it here before really, but a board I mod at has SQL for a minute, every day at the same time. Not sure why, maybe it is a server reboot time or something...

anons purpose to TPTB was to stamp an identity onto a persona that was previously unidentifiable. the only true threat to the upcoming conscious experiment known as the internet.

to give a face (ironically a mask) to, and make a villain of, a sparse group of people that arguably did not even seem to exist.

before all the publicity and guy fawkes masks, anonymous was a mode one could go in to become unidentifiable. it is hard to control something you cannot identify.

as cool and exciting as the whole story is,

you have to ask yourself,

who benefits?

There are tons of Sony fans that blame Anon for the PSN Fiasco. This is why the IRC is being attacked.

I know because people have been very open and honest about their intent to attack Anon for hitting Sony the way they did.

Personally I side with the gamers. With all of the problems going on in this world, the fact Anon targeted Sony is rediculous.

Go after the Fed Reserve... Koch Bros.....FBI....HB....then Sony???

Trust me Anon knows it screwed up big time and I am telling you gamers are pissed and so are Anon members at the rogue cells that caused the mess. Anon are gamers too so when they started hitting up Sony, not a lot of them understood.

Geohot was not worth the trouble.

He will kill quadrillions,...of bandwidth.

Yes I know Terrorist is not spelled turrist, it just gives me the GWBush feel.

Anonymous released a statement saying that "for once we didn't do it", and have denied being the group that attacked Sony, so i don't believe they know they screwed up at all, if they were infact not the person(s) who attacked Sony as they would have us believe.
