What sucks and aggravates me more than anything is seeing "racist" comments, even if they are subtle. People need to start seeing each other as equal humans, period...and not base their opinions of others on where they happen to have been born. Ultimately, I don't have a problem with any ethnic studies class - even if it's on my tax paying dollars. As someone said earlier, I'd rather pay for education than wars.

And I speak as someone born in California, with ancestry from Puerto Rico. I grew up in a poor neighborhood in So. Cal and from 2008 to 2010 I lived in Phoenix, AZ..I'm well aware of what's going on there. AZ has bigger problems to deal with than eradicating ethnic studies.

Im with you, I wish half of the people on ATS would listen to UKIP Nigel Farage when he talks about how important heritage, patriotism is and not blending in just to appease. You want to learn about other cultures "WIKI IT", you are in the United States of America and though I am half Iranian I love the USA and cannot stand to see its culture and roots be eroded by other immigrant and or non nationalist hating morons...

As far as I'm concerned I think we should sell Arizona and all of its citizens to the Mexican, Chinese, or some oil rich Middle Eastern country.

I am not sure why the people of Arizona are on such a high horse. What have they ever contributed to this country anyway? I think that just might be the problem, it's a state full of mediocre people who are angry at the world because of their own lack of substance.

I consider this to be progress, this should be done everywhere. Being proud of your heritage is one thing but ethnic studies has no place in our schools. I think it separates and puts certain ethnic groups in a category. It favors a certain group such as Hispanics. If they are going to have a special class for hispanic kids then they better have a Italian American, French American, Russian American, German American class too. But that would be stupid. But on another note the schools need to be more truthful about America's bloody history and the wrongs it has committed instead of the watered down version. It needs to be revised, our curriculum is still behind the times imo.

Equal time for all 'studies'. What the kids in this country need are studies on 'american culture'. Persons/children from other countries acan get their 'cultural' studies from their parents and relatives.
Also, reading, writing and math should be the subjects taught to all students. And if they have an extra period put them in another science, biology or math class.

Hmm. For instance my wife is Hispanic/Mexican American. Born and raised in the United States/California. Knows little spanish, heck I know more spanish then she does. And she works with many mexican's legal and illegal. But she gets flack all the time because they insist she has to know spanish because she is hispanic? That she acts "white" lol. She pretty much says no thanks im American and proud to be. But it does get under her skin sometimes. Some seem jealous i dunno. She did not have to grow up in a ramshackle shack and struggle as much as many Mexican's have. That seems to be the sentiment with many Mexicans from my experience and hers. It's like some fella from Italy telling me i need to learn Italian because my grand parents came from Italy. It's absurd and counter productive. It seems that is the sub agenda with many Mexican folks usually the illegal ones. The legal ones are more humble from my experience. Good hard working kind people that want to be one of us. Then you have the anti american types that want to turn the USA in to Mexico... it's true. And that is the problem imo. You embrace America and assimilate to be one of us or you should leave. Not me or anyone else should bend over backwards and change my way of life for any other country.

Listen to some advice that might help you in the future. Like, when you need to get a job.

You are woefully uneducated. I can tell by the way you write. You shouldn't concern yourself with "ethnic" propaganda. See, this is what I mean. I haven't given you any evidence to come to any conclusions about what I do or do not know. Yet you somehow formulate this fantasy in your head that I "have no idea what american culture is."

You are ignorant and uneducated. You are prone to cognitive biases and logical fallacies. You are displaying these problems in nearly every post you write. You are not qualified to make decisions on the educational needs of anyone, much less yourself.

If there ever was a race war it would be a very small one, small unorganized pockets of groups fighting one another in the streets at best. Mostly gang members and perhaps milita men. It would be a very small and short one with no winners. It would take place in the southern states most likely. Maybe AZ, Texas, NM But the national guard would handle that if it got out of hand. The majority of people would not participate and just take a detour to work or McDonalds. They would stay at home maybe troll certain ethnic groups. It would be a cyber race war lol.

Granted there are some folks here illegally and that does stress communities and government budgets - but these are human beings we are talking about.
