Looking inward at outward tyrrany.

My life was saved by government type programs. VA healthcare for starters, and 2 or 3 more assistance and "entitlements" things. Sometimes, when you get so beset by maladies while falling through the cracks of society, you cannot pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, without major serious professional help which a mere family member could never provide.
Therefore, I was very much quite leftwing liberal, albeit monetarily, versus socially. I was also vehemently anti-gun. 20-something years ago, a friend went with me to go buy a gun and then we went to a gun range, to learn it. But I was increasingly severely depressed. When alone, with it loaded and cocked, I put it to my head, and tried hard and patiently, to muster up the courage, to blow myself away. Numerous times I did that. But one day, instead, I took it to another gun store, and sold it and it's rounds to them. No more gun. For me.

Today as I'm listening to Alex Jones, it sounded like he started to cry. It's been viscerally obvious to me why, you need not listen to him, nor believe nor like him. Just pay even small attention to the MSM or go publicly travel. Everywhere, it's like we are overrun with the KGB and Gestapo. Increasing false flag games and threats have increasing shocking statements from politicians who declare, "More crackdowns on the American people!" Including infants, beauty contest celebrities, 6 yr old girls, an old people in wheelchairs. I heard they finally turned on the Amish. I wondered when. I used to hear horror stories about how in certain Latin American countries, the "Federalies" could "disappear" you from your family, who'd never get answers about you again. Now, here.

Today I keep thinking about 1776, when George Washington and his ragtag band, fought back the British RedCoats. Today I keep thinking about muskets and horses, and people of strong will and righteous purpose. But today I also remembered when I had expressed more than cynicism against the Constitution. Annnnnd Libertarian Americans. I keep guiltily feeling sorry about that today, against a song in my brain, that keeps replaying. Something with drums and flutes and "Yankee doodle dandy...." I don't think it's from a TV commercial "earworm." For some reason, I feel like I need to watch 'The Patriot' with Mel Gibson.

I don't know exactly how to end this thread, it was not a request for responses, although you all are more than welcome to. I just felt strongly self compelled to express all this in words. Even though it might get me put on some bad-people list. Get me in trouble. Just like a very large signature, on the bottom of some Resistance parchment.

Sometimes I feel like I'm standing on the beach in the lite surf break where it hits the sand. Kinda standing in the water up to my waist. Feeling the surge of water as it comes and goes around me. Then a swell comes along and just pushes me or lifts me and moves me along. I'm a sturdy fellow and can withstand most of what hits me, but as the tide rises it becomes more difficult to stand my ground and not just get swept away.

In reading your OP, this is how I guess you are feeling and this describes how I also feel about a lot of our present situation.

Thank you very much for your mature and empathetic reply. I was afraid no one had read what I poured out here, the thread died really quick (out of sight out of mind). I was disappointed. Now I'm not.

If I were to sum up what I took away from your OP, it's "you don't know what you have until it's gone".

You are most welcome, Cuervo. I read an interesting thing said by a poster in some other thread. This poster is a Libertarian, I gather. That: If everyone kept their own money and there was no Socialism type of programs, The People would be able to help those who have, (per that 1 commercial,) "fallen, and I can't get up." So I was thinking about that concept. Corporations cannot be trusted to do the right thing, thats for sure. (British Petroleum, factory farms, Big deforesting Loggers, etc) So I wonder if Strict Constitutional rule would really bear that out? In 2011, 235 years later.
Can you convert me? Libertarians? I'm not close minded.

I'm a socialist/libertarian, if you can dig it. On a federal level, socialism in a nation our size does not work (look at USSR) but in smaller, bite-sized chunks like, say, the size of a state, you could run socialized programs effectively. If you look at all the model socialist nations, they all have one thing in common: their size. They are all relatively small (Canada's an exception but, then again, they have problems).

The problem people have with a centralized government (be it dictatorship, monarchy, democracy, communist, etc) is that you have one group of people deciding over many, many others in regions where it not make sense. However, if you had local, state policies that were the final say on state government, you would have locals deciding for locals.

That's what is so appealing to many people about libertarianism. It attracts both the left and the right. There are people on here that I have diametrically opposing views with who agree with me on that one issue. I think it's prime time for somebody like Ron Paul to step in and soak up all the pissed off republicans and democrats into one united umbrella.

So the answer isn't to abolish government, it's simply to localize it. Again, I'm not the typical libertarian but I think there will be more people waking up to the advantages of a decentralized government soon enough.

At this point, I am pretty certain, come the next big election, if my choices are Republican, Democrat, Paul, for me it will be Paul. I was a Dem, but every time they get in the White House, one Administration after another, they become fascist. Let us not forget Waco, Ruby Ridge, Albania, and Slobodan Milosevic.

Hey man, it happens to everyone. A feeling like everything is just spiraling out of control. Kind of like a night of heavy drinking, and you go to sleep, but as you lay on the bed, the world keeps spinning. Until, you put one leg on the ground.

You need to find that one leg. I got it in the form of my wife and kids.

Keep at it, you will get there.
