US Foreign Policies Peeving Off The World

It appears that the whole OBL "situation" didn't draw as much backing as Obama would have liked. Well, with other nations anyway. www.reuters.com...

"The last thing he wanted was to be put on trial, to be convicted and to end his life in a prison farm in upstate New York. What he wanted was exactly what he got - to be shot in mid-jihad and get a fast track to paradise and the Americans have given him that."

Gert-Jan Knoops, a Dutch-based international law specialist, said bin Laden should have been arrested and extradited to the United States.

"The Americans say they are at war with terrorism and can take out their opponents on the battlefield," Knoops said. "But in a strictly formal sense, this argument does not stand up."

A senior Muslim cleric in New Delhi, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, said U.S. troops could have easily captured bin Laden.

"America is promoting jungle rule everywhere, whether in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan or Libya. People have remained silent for long but now it has crossed all limits."

How funny that nations that once backed us, are quickly pulling away as soon as the details start pouring out about how things went down. Of course, the US's f.u.b.a.r'd foreign policies are starting to cost us. WE are going to be the next "IronWall" this time around.

It amazes me how naive the current administration is when it comes to foreign policy. It doesn't seem to matter that they are pissing the world off. It actually almost seems like its on purpose, like they wanna see how far they can push the envelope. Any thoughts.

I suppose this is going to be one of those threads that gets forgotten until something actually happens, and forces ATSers to search threads for info.

I would actually like to get some feedback on these recent events. I.e, whats going to happen next in your opinion, or what to look out for. It seems that there IS plenty of opinions on the matter all over the board. But I would rather discuss it in one centralized thread, rather than just a few random posts in this thread or that thread.

I reckon you might as well delete this thread now mods, and save yourself some space....

Yet none of the nations were willing to take terrorists from Club Gitmo.

I guess it is a good thing they didn't, because Club Gitmo remained open, and major information was retrieved leading us to bin Laden in the first place.

I thought it was an important topic as well, which is why I started the thread, but was appalled by how few ATSers cared. Seems with word of Chinas ultimatum, that this thread might get some views.

I don't think that article shows that the capture of OBL is turning countries off American policy, most countries in the world were happy he was killed and pronounced it as a victory or a blow to terrorism. None of the people in the article are government officials.
