Random Question About Calculators(nothing to do with OBL or Obama)

I was playing with a calculator about 20 years ago and found something interesting, and I still can't figure it out. Here goes... If you go start diagonally at any corner of the 3x3 1-9 square and enter the three numbers, press + and enter the numbers in reverse, you get 1,110 ex. 753+357=1,110, 951+159=1,110 and across the middle is 654+456=1,110 top and bottom 987+123=1,110. Did I just crack the code to the secret of life? I knew it was not 42! I am sure that there is a simple explanation for this that I may have slept through in math class and I'm no Rocket Surgeon, but does anyone know why this happens? Any input, even smart remarks will be appreciated.

I also think that the answer to this question will also answer the other mind bottling question for the ages...... If a chicken and a half laid an egg and a half in an hour and a half, how long would it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?
