Obama waited 16 hours before giving order to kill Bin Laden

Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound.

Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals - who were not even told who they were preparing to capture - had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.

The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.

But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think - and disappeared out of the room.

'I'm not going to tell you what my decision is now - I'm going to go back and think about it some more,' said Obama, according to the New York Times. He then added 'I'm going to make a decision soon.'

The head of the CIA and other senior intelligence officers who were keen to proceed were left tense as they waited for the president's decision.

We know Bin Laden had sewn money and several telephone numbers into his clothes in case had to make a
hasty retreat

The Seals and aircrew forced to wait while he passes out awards to teachers.....

If I was Obama and I actually believed Bin Laden was in this place I'd have to weigh up the outcomes, will Al Ciada attack? What if its false intel? what if I should just bomb it?.... but for sixteen hours?? No. No I don't think so... more like 2 hours MAX. The guy who supposedly took out the American freedoms?? I'd want him #in burned alive IN the U.S.

I read somewhere that Obama tried to abort the mission. He was afraid of a blunder like Peanut Farmer Carter when he tried to rescue the Iranian Hostages. I can understand not wanting to have this turn into a disaster and one helo didn't make it. It was said Obama was over ruled by the Pentagon and the Intelligence Communities, and that after that he had no choice but to use it to his advantage, especially if it went well, it could boost his wavering polls. And Real Polotics has his approval rating go up to +9.1% ...

That is up from a -5.2 just prior to the mission. Had it gone bad, his approval rating would have tanked. I don't know if that is what really happened. It came from the infamous internal WH leak, which I am suspect of anyway. However, it could be accurate. And how could the CiC be over ruled? I never heard of that happening before.
