Gorgi-

Your approach/views illustrate perfectly the ability of politicians (democrats and republicans) to manipulate messaging by injecting common human emotions (empathy, sympathy) into the political discourse. Anytime the government is faced with a movement to limit their powers it's response is to invoke these natural human emotions by stating "getting rid of government services will cause the most poor and helpless to suffer." They know that any rational person will always side with needy over someone who wants to limit government, and this is why the size of government is generally never challenged. However, many people are realizing that while these emotional arguments "feel" right they are not based on logic or common sense.

Firstly, the government is inefficient at best, and generally delays, but increases the potentional harm of the problems they attempt to address. For example the government attempted to increase the ability for low income families to have access mortgages by forcing banks to give loans to people they ordinarily would not, and incentivized it by giving them federal backing (Freddie and Fannie) (Fair Housing Act). Everyone enjoys a good
subprime mortgage crisis. Did they learn? No they are now forcing insurance companies to give health insurance
to those who ordinarily would not qualify. Also used emotions to gain support for Iraq war through justifying by their need to "protect us." No one is saying some services like FEMA should not exist, but they should not be run by such an entity (government) that continuously fails at it's objectives. That is like letting ENron executives run an ethics class.

Another great comment was your Financial regulation comment (Oxley). You should add to your extensive research how many existing agencies are already suppose to be protecting against that kind of fraud as it's job (SEC, Senate Finance Committee, Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Department of Treasury, etc), but yes your right we probably need a law and more agencies to address that problem.

Also, quantitive easing is good? Why do you think oil prices are high? Production is exactly the same. It's because the dollar is weakening. Add oil versus strength of dollar to your "research."

another anti-ron paul shill. Lets remember what he really stands for. Lets remember Jesse Ventura stated he was one of the few good polititions left. Jesse said he would be honored if Ron Paul asked him to run for president with him [vise]
Ron Paul won straw poles already, which shows he is no-1
The poster would rather have you vote the same old way-good cop bad cop -both candidates that [THEY LET RUN] would be the same .But we can change that with paul!!
We need a person with GUTS, and paul sure has plenty of that.
We as a country have one more chance left [if its not already to late] before the corperate elete and the war machine doesnt get us in WW 3 -Paul wants to stop our war criminals from their continued murder for oil and resources. Almost all the world HATES OUR GUTS -americans will never walk free in half of the world now as it is because of these evil pricks. And i am sure the do not care at all!
Jimmy carter was the last honest president we had. Time for another thats for sure!!!
VOTE FOR McCAIN -and you vote for the war machine!!
VOTE FOR OBAMA- and vote for the war machine and the bankers!!
VOTE FOR ANYBODY ELSE BUT PAUL-and you are ignorant.

American far right extremism finds a quite influential voice.

The John Birch Society has some supporters in Congress. Ron Paul of Texas recently argued:"The beneficial, educational impact of the John Birch Society over the past four decades would be hard to overestimate. It is certainly far more than most people realize. Anyone who has been in the trenches over the years battling on any of the major issues – whether it’s pro-life, gun rights, property rights, taxes, government spending, regulation, national security, privacy, national sovereignty, the United Nations, foreign aid – knows that members of the John Birch Society are always in there doing the heavy lifting. And most importantly, they approach all of these issues from a strong moral and constitutional perspective. Lots of people pay lip service to the Constitution, but Birchers study it, understand it, apply it, and are serious about protecting it and holding public officials accountable to it."

from Iowa JBS

Fred Koch was a founding member of JBS. His sons have provided the $$ for the right wing extremist voice to become so influential. From 1% in 1980 to prominence 30 years later.

Ron Paul has been constantly wrong on most stuff relating to the economy. His ideas of what he wants to do to the country will destroy it.

Ron Paul says he wants a smaller government. I suppose he doesnt realize what his actions will do to the country. He says he wants to get rid of many government agencies including the DOE, DHS, IRS, FEMA, DHHS, and the federal reserve.. What is he thinking? These are horrible ideas. The DOE oversees the US energy, inspections, research ect. The DHS keeps us safe. FEMA responds to disasters. The federal reserve is a very important body of the government. Doesnt he realize that by abolishing this he will destroy the country?

The federal reserve is what keeps the US government going. We need a strong independent federal reserve. Studies have shown that the more independent that are the lower the inflation rate is. He keeps calling the Fed wrong or that Bernanke doesnt know what hes doing but thats just plain wrong. He also wants to bring back the gold standard but thats another failure too.

He voted against the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Does he want another Enron scandal ?

He wants to get rid of the income tax and fun the government through tariffs. Thats insane. Tariffs reduce trade and there will not be enough money to fun the government. His idea of a small government does not work in the twenty-first century, maybe in in the 1800's.

He wants to have a national sales tax. There wont be enough money raised to support the government. Maybe if we abolish government to the point that the is almost no it might work, but thats not realistic. Sales taxes are regressive taxes that hurt the middle and lower class and favor the upper class. maybe he doent know that or he is in someones pocket?

He was also against TRAP. TARP was instrumental in saving the US economy and has worked fantastically. Since then the US has made a profit off it and kept the economy together.

QE1 and QE2 have also worked to stimulate the economy. Ben Bernanke can also prove how it has worked and why we needed it. There is proof that it has worked.

It appears that Ron Paul is continually wrong about the economics of the country. Now that the debate has just passed it seems that the Ron Paul fascination is in full swing once again.

Some of these government organizations, while I don't believe they should completely be abolished, need to be drastically reformed. And if it has to occur from the ground up, then that's just how it needs to be. But as several posters have already made mention of, some of these organizations are almost... corrupt and irresponsible in the way they operate, particularly Homeland Security and FEMA.

And the organizations that oversee the economy and energy... well clearly those are working out well for a lot of people, right?

For you fans of "smaller government" please Google Cultural Imperialism and Class Dominance. You would all unwittingly make the middle class the slave class. Less government leave a power vacuum. Who do you think would fill that void? The state governments have proven just as ineffective as the federal. The void will be filled with BIG business. You all love to talk about going back to the way things used to be run.

The Battle of Blair Mountain.

Do we really want to repeat of the bloody history of corporate oppression. At least with the government we have a voice no matter how splintered the political realm gets.

"we need the federal reserve"

my god, what an idiotic statement

you realize why we're in the mess we're in,,,, why prices are going up,,,,,,,,,

is it cool to shave points in a basketball game??? because that's basically what the fed does

can you just add extra ingredients,,, or double the amounts and it comes out tasting perfect???
again no,,,,, so why can the fed meddle in a free market

of course i'm waisting my time if you think the fed is good,,,,,, or your totally uninformed about the fed and i'm again waisting my time

Nobody wants less government; we want decentralized government. Less from feds, more from state. The power vacuum would indeed be scary if it were not filled but it will be. By state government.

Here's the thing, though. Things didn't work out under the Bush administration, it's why people wanted change and voted Obama in. Things didn't work under the Obama administration, so people are clamoring for Ron Paul. If things don't work under the Paul administration then in 4 years time someone else will be voted in.

Peter Schiff would like a word with you...

As the sample gets larger, it is perfectly natural to get some outliers. Even within supposedly knowledgeable circles. Schiff is one among a thousand, who probably gets overrepresented due to heterodox views. The same happens in academia with George Mason University and all the esoterism surrounding Austrian "economics".

And more sock-puppets...

It is sad that anyone has been brainwashed by the banking cartels that the paper that they print out of thin air, at their discretion, is in some way valuable beyond their meme that it is.

Putting the creation of money in the hands of government or a private banking cartel like the "Federal" Reserve with the Bernankopod at the helm is a recipe for the abuse of that power. Note the distribution of wealth in the US right now.

Physical gold and silver are money, paper printed at the whim of tyrants is not.

Need proof of the corruption of fiat? The mortgages of the entirety of America could have been paid off for the cost of TARP and QE1 and QE2. But instead our children have been saddled with an impossible to pay ponzi debt.
