I completely understand all of that. But a charismatic man with the people on his side create quite a formidable foe for the Ayatollah's to face.

Ahmadinejad never had any power to remove, he simply is irrelevant, the Ayatollahs have always ruled Iran, and are easily shaken, and very paranoid... An entirely exploitable trait.
