MILWAUKEE -- As national authorities revise their safety plans following the death of Osama bin Laden, local law enforcement agencies are also on heightened alert.
For the first time, media got a behind-the-scenes look Wednesday at a center dedicated to preventing a terror attack in Milwaukee.
Authorities ask that the center's location not be mentioned, but the Intelligence Fusion Center is hosted by Milwaukee police to better coordinate intelligence among the agencies in Milwaukee, both local and federal.
The lack of proper legal limits on the new fusion centers not only threatens to undermine fundamental American values, but also threatens to turn them into wasteful and misdirected bureaucracies that, like our federal security agencies before 9/11, won't succeed in their ultimate mission of stopping terrorism and other crime.
