Seal Team 6: inside the Osama bin Laden assassination squad

The US navy's elite Seal Team 6, which stormed Osama bin Laden's Abbottabad compound and killed the al-Qaida leader, prides itself on two things: efficiency and secrecy.

A measure of its commitment to secrecy came when the head of the navy Seals sent the Bin Laden team a congratulatory email reminding them to keep their mouths shut afterwards. "Be extremely careful about operational security," added Rear Admiral Edward Winters. "The fight is not over."

Secrecy will always spawn doubt fear and mystery, but this team is made up of true Heros and they do deserve respect. They live in a world not akin to most of us bound by duty to serve, I imagine they have struggles and difficulties as well because of this. Which speaks volumes of thier resolve and dedication to thier country at times the entire free world.

Thats not to say they are always bright and shiny, I for one look forward to the tales this new book will bring to light.

I know many have thier doubts but Id just like to say thanx...

Was a bit confused about something at first.

In your linked article, it didn't actually come out and say that this image was of SEAL Team 6, but it did imply it, in the description under the pic. Didn't seem to be very secretive to me, so I searched, and found the same image from an article, a few years ago.

In case anyone else has that same first thought, here is the link.

lmao

this article is about SEAL team 6
but the image they show is NOT a SEAL team.

Those are NOT Navy Personnel.

1) Those are US Army Uniforms with Army unit patches.

2) That soldier has an M-60 strapped. SEALS do not use M-60's.

3) the other soldier has an M-16 30 round banana clip in his hand. SEALs do not use
M-16's either.

Somebody screwed up big time

Secrecy eh, so why is their photographs all over the internet and press?

Perhap's its an American ego or stupidy thing but British Special operations don't go around putting their photographs on the world stage.

TinEye results: www.tineye.com...

Someone grabbed it from somewhere else, I reckon. And maybe it's better they don't show real ones anyway.

This guy seems to discount your statement...

Although tactical details of Sunday's mission remain unconfirmed, ABC News spoke with a former Navy SEAL sniper to learn what equipment and tech toys SEAL teams usually use to take down a target.

"The organizations we're talking about have the resources to get any weapon systems they think are necessary to do the job, and they will bring [anything] they think will give them the greatest advantage in that moment," Richard "Mac" Machowicz, a former Navy SEAL sniper and the host of Spike TV's "Deadliest Warrior," told ABC News. "If they get it, and they like it, they'll use it."

My cousin is a Navy Seal. He is 35 years old and on active duty in Afghanistan. He has done some missions, I have been wondering if he had anything to do with this one.

I'm sure he appreciates you telling the world who he is.

Must be that stupidity or ego thing again, hard to differentiate the two.

Why say that? If your saying that, then no amount of evidence is going to satisfy you. There are a gaggle of people that could have witnessed it with their own eyes, and would still cry foul.

lol
well I would hate to disagree with an expert in the field
of tactical operations. But just a note. An M-60 is a 30 Cal
heavy machine gun. It's purpose would not be considered
useful in close combat operations like a compound invasion.
An M-60 is designed for use in establishing a perimeter
and cutting an advancing enemy to shreds. Mainly it is
a stationary mounted weapon which is still in use in
helicopters. I would still disagree with the expert who
said this type weapon would be used in this assault.
It is too bulky to be used in close arms battles such
as what has been portrayed in Abottabad.
Matter of fact, with a full pack and belt accessories
then strap an M-60 on top of that, you would be lucky
to be even able to fit through a regular sized doorway.

You're right about the photo being incorrect, but I've spent time with the Seals in Virginia and they were carrying m16s when I was around them. (m4s, the smaller version of the m16) It's actually their main weapon.
