OK you'll probably have to distill this some but here goes.

Our galaxy contains around 200 Billion stars and is one of trillions of gallaxies each containing hundreds of billions of stars.

Coming back to just our galaxy alone out of the 200 billion stars, if one in every billion had planets and one in every million of those had life and one in every million of those had intelligent life. Then our galaxy alone would literally be teaming with civilisations. Granted not necissarily space faring civilations but still.

Then get your class to apply that math to the other countless billions of galaxies and your off to a fine start.

Hope this helps

You need to stress the fact that many scientists believe there are subterranean oceans within quite a few bodies in our own solar system. Jupiter's moon, Europa, is considered to more likely than not have life in its ocean, and there are other candidates, such as Saturn's moon, Enceladus.
Also, over 500 extrasolar planets (planets in other solar systems) have been discovered since the 1990s, and the Kepler mission has discovered more than 1,000 additional planet candidates (planets that have yet to be confirmed by followup investigations). Quite a few of them are in their stellar system's "habitable zones," or the area around the star that, if a planet with sufficient atmospheric pressure were to exist there, liquid water would most likely be on the surface.
Mars is also a likely place for extant extraterrestrial life. Either anywhere on the planet below the surface, or under the dry ice at the north pole, where there is believed to be a large deposit of water.

Betty and Barney Hill Case. - First publicized abduction case, they were examined by one of the military's top psychologists. Betty produced a star map that identified stars only LATER confirmed by astronomers, and even noted the COLOR of the stars (again, only confirmed later by astronomers).

Roswell - Admitted and proven government coverup. Testimony by generals, sergeants, etc. of finding debris of unearthly origin. The ridiculousness of the Mogul explanation, and the ruling out of every other terrestrial explanation. The Army even came out and said they recovered a disc. (then retracted the story).

Rendlesham AFB encounter - UFO on the ground, discovered by military personnel, well documented case.

Just because they are BIG cases doesn't mean you can't use them. I myself did a 5 minute persuasive speech for Toastmasters and used these same examples. PowerPoint helps too, if you're allowed to use it. Showing the starmap, the front page of the Roswell Daily Record, etc. should help your speech.

Close with the Drake Equation and sheer statistics that argue that we're not alone in the Universe.

Here's the whole thing just if you're interested in how it turned out.

There's obviously a lot of commentary missing, but yeah.
