If we assume the ego to be an evil force, a corruption of our true natures, a genetic implant, an artificial component, then, if we did not have the power to "choose" then would it be seen for what it is?

I think the word choose here is a fine line.

An animal supposedly doesnt have the same ego/choice's we have ...but I still think they choose on a regular basis...when to pounce ect...its the reasons for the choices that matters ....and the lack to see oneself as a part of a whole, we all seem to like to think we are many seperate mini gods...

Peace

The idea of free will and choice is a philosophical minefield.
Do we have the power to choose really?

How can we assume the ego is an evil force…or an unnatural genetic corruption of our true nature when we don’t know anything about our true nature?
And who is it that’s going to be seeing it for what it is?

Would you like a life without choice?

Of course a man of knowledge might say there is no choosing.
There is only the action that the situation demands.

It is what we choose that reveals the ego to others and to ourselves.

Perhaps if we just become small enough our inflated egos will disappear altogether…

Any animal has ego, it means animals must be evil too ?
The EGO, or E-motion is Emotion-Go(going)(motion).
The Ego is your feelings, your anger, your love, your ability to feel sorry. These are all part of the ego, without the ego you are like a robot, no feelings at all. Your ego simply put is making life interesting for you.

A similar thing to compare would be taste, imagine that you eat but you can't taste it, or you don't know how the food tastes, it will nurish you but you can't feel the taste. Some say that the ego is controling them, conditioning and that they have to get rid of it in order to have 100% free will, soon as they do they become walking zombies.

To answer the original question:
"Without free-will, is the ego an evil force?"

Nope, and it never was.You can point out certain things that you don't like about the Ego and consider it evil, or you can point out the things that you do like about it and call it good. Evil is a subjective term.

Without the Ego there is no survival here. Without the Ego there is nothing to learn, as the spirit fills the mind with all that is.

Animals are not evil, but spirits incarnated here who opt to only 'feed' the wrong wolf are indeed performing lower astral activity - and since realitly is non-physical, changing everything where more and more lessons can be learned by those with the will to integrate, accept and change.

Its ever compensating... some like to call this karmic existence.
