The alleged death of Osama Bin Laden - The End of the "War on Terror"?

Dear ATS,

This isn't going to be just another reactionary thread about the alleged death of OBL (Osama Bin Laden), this is an examination of the wider context of the alleged event.

First, please consider recent events -
1) Royal Wedding
2) Middle-Eastern Rebellion
3) U.S. Election Campaign
4) U.S. Extreme Tornado Disaster
5) Last Christian Government member killed in Pakistan
6) Potential closure of EU Borders

Involvement?
1) The Royal Wedding has been a MASSIVE flying elephant in terms of new distractions. It is interesting that the attack on OBL would have been planned, coordinated and set up during a period of massive global distraction.
3) The middle-eastern rebellion has triggered the greatest wave of Islamic state weakening since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The realm of extremism within Islamic communities across the world was at risk of becoming one of the few ways that a modern Muslim would be able to vent frustration and anger at the west. The poster child being OBL. The 'removal' of the 'idea' of OBL would then damage or even 'nullify' the apparent 'success' of Islamic extremism, further exacerbating
3) The greatest victory in the "War On Terror" JUST HAPPENS to come at the beginning of an election campaign for the president of the United States? Early enough on for him to continually repeat, "It's my success, not Bush's" yet also early on enough in the campaign for people to forget what it actually reveals about the incumbent Presidents' office.
4) The Tornado disaster in the U.S. has been soaking up news coverage, and provides an excellent 'fear' lightning rod for the people.
5) Recently, the last Christian government member was asssassinated in Pakistan - this person also happened to be the last proper internal defence against hard-line extremism taking hold of the Pakistan government. The U.S. in my view is preparing to pull out of Pakistan, and then Afghanistan. This could not happen unless the mission to capture OBL was completed - successful or not.
6) In Europe it was revealed recently that near 'closure' of EU borders is imminent, with France and Germany leading the way to prevent mass immigration from failing Arab states and central African states.

The Shock Doctrine -

A term coined by Naomi Klein in her book, this is the doctrine of using 'shock and awe' to manipulate the public into accepting information or situations as fact or as necessary. We all know how much this doctrine was used to ingratiate the myth that was the official story relating to 9/11. We all know how much this was used to engage the "War On Terror".

What we are seeing today is the 'disposal' of the myth of Osama Bin Laden. The death of a personality, most likely NOT the death of a real person. The myth of OBL was used to justify the invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and for further Imperialism around the world. He was the poster-child for violent and emphatic suppression of civil rights at home in the U.S. and in allied states such as the UK. He was the key figure in the environment of fear created to stop us from speaking out against unspeakable acts perpetrated by our own Corporatocracies.

Let's consider the CURRENT scenario -

- OBL has been shot and killed by US Special Forces in Pakistan.
- His body has been buried at sea.
- Al-Qaeda (The Database) is expected to retaliate.
- Public Statements by U.S. Officials, including:

...The senior US official warned that the possibility of revenge attacks had now created "a heightened threat to the homeland and to US citizens and facilities abroad".

But the official added that "the loss of Bin Laden puts the group on a path of decline that will be difficult to reverse"...

CONCLUSIONS:

We are seeing the end of the "War On Terror". The killing off of the wetwork personality known as OBL is key. Remember, NO BODY VERIFICATION, NO OSAMA BIN LADEN! Taking into account the current events listed at the top of this thread, it makes sense for the news of this event to be released now. Never has there been a confluence of interests as suitable for the relevant powers as there is now (post 9/11).

Picture the scene.

The news networks are distracted by global events including the Royal Wedding, the Tornado disaster etc. A chain of civil unrest throughout the middle-east caused by economic hitmen who are acting out the 'Shock Doctrine' is weakening the Islamic world. European rhetoric to the est of the world is hardening and so are their borders. Pakistan is no longer an ally. The strategic situation the US finds itself in is untenable - they need to immediately withdraw from Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. Not only that, but it's a vote winner to withdraw, and Obama needs votes! (And troops for invading Libya and the defence of Israel in the up-coming Arabic invasion.)

Finally, with the 'end' of the "War on Terror", the U.S. government hopes people will say "Mission Accomplished" in bringing to justice the man 'responsible' for 9/11. What say you ATS? Have those responsible for 9/11 been brought to justice in the past few days? Or are we all still drinking the kool-aid?

I don't believe more threat figures are necessary for the moment. I believe that the U.S. plan is for increased Nationalism, and then a war to remove Islam from positions of government influence through the middle-east. It is a re-imagining of the War on Terror.

I've always thought this man was an agreed scapegoat, so it wouldn't surprise me if he is alive and well in some comfortable expensive home.. somewhere, enjoying his relatively new life.

Great post, OP. The FBI has always said that OBL was not linked to 9/11, but suddenly with this announcement
he is? I do think that Bin Laden is linked to Bush in our minds, so can this announcement not be to launch the new election campaign, to put on a fresh aura, to stop the old terror terminology? Obama knows he does not stand a chance if the people are still in a depressive mood.

On the other side of things though, I think that your observation about Europe is bang on. I always felt that the attack on Libya was linked to this aspect, especially as France and Germany were the first two to really complain about this.

No end to the war on terror. The seeds have been sown (no matter who sowed them) where there are thousands of morons on the queue to be terrorists.

What is does do is allow the US a legitimate exit strategy out of Afghanistan whilst saving face! A great day mission achieved! Could not be happier he is dead!

Perhaps, but I think the War on Terror as we knew it under Bush is definitely over. Now I think it will just be a plain old fashioned WAR.

B) Whether or not he died yesterday or years ago, OBL is now a martyr for the cause. Violence will escalate exponentially. His number 2 (that gives me a giggle), al-Zawahiri, is still alive and will carry on in OBL's name. Look for a major attack in Europe within the next month. This is going to be bad.

The end of the war on terror is like the end of the war on murder and such, there is no end, there will always be some group or person that thinks he is the lone ranger of evil, the only difference is certain people that would have joined in on the terror will be thinking thrice.

Perhaps the 'new boogie man' is the frequent flyer, the train rider, the driver, the pedestrian, the internet user.
Will the 'Patriot act' be ramped down?

The War on Terror will NEVER end, for it exists in many forms whereby man turned into beasts to kill another, a crime NO religion will countenance in ANY form unless declared war by societies as whole when all options to survive fails.

But the war on terror is not one that can be fought using bullets, for radical ideals cannot be destroyed by bullets, but only by truth and honest ideologies.

Thus we must ensure more of our fellow human brothers and sisters be given the opportunity for education, secular or religious, to improve their lives as well as the philosophy of sanctity of lives. Every human life means something special to someone else. Murder and taking of fellow human lives are never an option unless in sanctioned wars.

We must not give up on the fight, and must use ALL means peacefully to win this war. Power may be derived from the barrel of a gun, but logic and reason rules the hearts and minds of all mankind.

It's interesting that nobody seems to have any solid theories or ideas about what is going on with this.

The big thread on the front page is full of people ranting / being silly / and doing very little of interest. Typical of ATS these days. Can some of you lot do any better?

As one falls, there will always be another scapegoat to take his place. TBTB aren't going to let the war on terror just end. How else will they be able to take your freedoms away from you like they have been if it did end?

They built a terrorist factory that never worked. They killed people's children and still they would not fight back. They underestimated the willingness of the "enemy" to fight back. The only terrorists they can get are ones they pay or the mentally retarded. Total plan fail by the warmongers. Fear only false flag attacks.

Remember if the "War on Terror" was a fabrication to start, it will be a fabrication to end as well. It means they will have accomplished what they wanted to, and they are moving on to another stage.

The definition of "terror" can be applied to anything to justify an offensive, from 9/11 to Gadaffi firing on his own citizens. So the 'War On "Terror" ' could be endless.........

You are correct, but one needs to go a bit deeper. The "war on terra" will continue, but it is no longer the focus of TPTB. It will go on, simply because people have turned their lives into selling a fiction - news, talking heads, even agencies seeking out the 200 or so terraists left will keep working, but they will no longer be supported as they were.

Your list says that the sham what was the "war on terra" is over, the face of it was OBL, now that face is dead. It was werner van braun that said after terrorists come aliens as the threat du jour.

Folks will celebrate this event as if it has meaning to them - it does not. But, if the long standing pattern holds true, very soon, they may long for the days when their enemy was a guy in sandals living in a cave.

The wedding, the birth certificate, OBL, the uprisings, floods, tornadoes and don't forget the now total nuclear meltdown, are all symbols on an end, and a beginning. The fireworks will start after the summer, look for Mid October to be something else.

So now that Osama is supposedly dead, are they finally going to charge Bush, Chaney and Rumsfeld with war crimes and treason? ........
