When Barack Obama took office in January 2009, gas prices averaged around $1.80.

But when Bush was in office and the $1.08 gas went to $1.40+ people screamed bloody murder. And blamed Bush, remember?

Yet, when Obama takes office gas prices doubled, it's O.K. It's the gas guys' fault, not Obama.

Right...........

Not voting for Obama ever again

If Donald Trump or any other person comes gas would skyrocket to 20 dollars a gallon

Probably because the oil industry dropped the price just before the '08 elections so that no matter who got elected, you could complain that gas prices were so low when they first got into office and look how horrible it is now....

something similar has happened to many aspects of life in the UK also, it isn't just a US phenomena, it looks more like deliberate ruination. Successive gov's here systematically destroying most of the good things, economy, health service, immigration, education etc. has left the UK reeling.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Really?

You think that Obama ( or any other president) has something to do with gas prices? They have no control over gas prices, that would be communist/socialist policy that would create that. God forbid you guys regulated your own gas prices.

You should be blaming OPEC for the increase in gas prices.

I don't know where you were buying gas. I can't remember the last time I paid $1.80 for gas however I remember while Bush was in office I paid $3.90 a gallon for gas. Then it went down to $2.40 just prior to Obama being elected. I remember they tried to blame katrina for the increase in gas prices. It slowly went down somewhat. Now they are blaming possible interference in the oil flow. Everyone knows that it is nothing but a scam to rob people as if they haven't been robbed enough. The only way Obama would have any control of oil prices is to take over all oil wells, oil refineries ,and limit gas consumption to US oil only and then ration it.

I remember one reporter had asked Barry months ago what if gas prices get as high as was in 07 and 08.
B.O. says ,, ohhh no it will never be allowed to get that high again, we have reserves..
Also oil is 112 bux a barrel ? and were payin nearly 4 bux a gl in the south here..
bat wasnt oil nearly 140 a barrel in 07? and we were not paying as much as we are now..

And the saudi's are slimming production to drive the prices world wide to the moon..

Sad..

I think, maybe, your memory is off a little on those prices. Unless you're referring to Bush Sr. Gas era prices

I find it hilarious that people find ways to blame Obama for something that he doesn't have enough in his political power to have control over. This rise in gas prices is more so of a world issue. Next your going to tell me Obama is to blame for global warming.

I am extremely confused.... perhaps I have slipped into a different dimension.

For the life of me I cannot remember gas being any cheaper than 2 bucks in at LEAST the last 10 years, probably further back that that. At least in my neck of the woods (Oregon)

However I do remember gas being CHEAPER after Obama came into office, not more expensive, but in my opinion that has absolutely nothing to do with Obama.

This thread is the exact opposite of what I remember gas prices being. Not sure where the confusion is coming from! I'll ask some of my friends tonight as see the last time they remember gas being under 2 bucks. I doubt any of them will be able to remember either.

we should pay more attention to the real crooks, the commodities speculators

see they actually have an impact on the price

the executive branch of the federal gov't has very little impact on prices

With all the hot air he spews all the time, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

-------

But seriously, how can someone blame the president on the price of gas? If anybody is to blame, it's the Saudi's and OPEC for driving the prices up, not the POTUS.

When Gee Dubya was in office, I was in my senior year of college. I remember gas jumping to 2.75 and eventually 3 bucks a gallon just before I went to grad school the following Fall, and this was from gas that was around 1.75-1.80 a gallon in my area (this is the Fall of '06). The prices dropped into the relative basement a few months later, and the world got back to normal. There is an ebb and flow to this market, and eventually the prices will fall again...we just have to wait for it.

Peace be with you.

I don't think I've seen gas anywhere lower than $2.00 a gallon in about 9 years, but im in Florida so prices can get ridiculous...

What an awful, partisan statement.

This kind of thread should not be allowed on ATS

Do you realize that an oligarchy effectively controls every president, and blaming either one of them is just blowing hot air?

I come to ATS to get away from this typical sheeple debate, not take it in

DENY IGNORANCE!!!

How much as the dollar been devalued since he took office?

How many trillions of dollars have evaporated?

How much deeper in debt as a nation are we since then?

The reasons are complex and varied... But among them the value of the dollar, or buying power on the international markets is less, so it takes more to buy oil.

Obama could ease this problem with increased domestic production of oil. But that isn't going to happen.

Economic recovery will require a trade war of sorts, you can't get people back to work if all of the jobs have been exported to other countries because the USA doesn't manufacture much of anything anymore.

Bottom line, we are doomed... Don't be surprised if gas prices average out at over $6 per gallon by December... And by then the USA will be in a full economic collapse as a result.

Not to mention the severe problems we are going to have to deal with this summer.

It's time for the president and others to stop talking and do what has to be done to save this country... Actually it's too late... I've wasted time on this post.

OPEC doesn't control oil prices. They've already stated there is no increased demand for oil.

This is just manipulation by the Big Oil and their speculators on Wall Street. They've got a big push on for offshore drilling and Obama bucked at their increased demands, so this is how they get their way - drive prices up until everyone is screaming bloody murder.

For the past quarter Exxon Mobil made $11 billion in profits, is refining less oil, yet exporting more oil to foreign countries. There's no shortage, it's just an old-fashioned manufactured crisis to which they always blame OPEC, and the sheeple fall for it all the time.

I remember in 1998, in South Carolina gas was 78 a gallon at certain spots. I would fill up my little Honda for like $15.

...those were the days.

Exxon paid many more billions in taxes too..

While some of what you say is true, don't forget that on the international oil markets the dollar's worth is much less than they want the public to be aware of... It takes a lot more dollars to buy the same amount of oil that those same dollars could have bought months, and years ago.

There really isn't much else going on right now to drive these prices up at this alarming rate... But all factors combined, it forecasts economic collapse if it isn't halted soon.
