Well, the stories are there because they are perceived as popular. If you don't like what you see then you are free to change your default home page so that you are never again plagued by the inane. Try something different.

Regards

While I take your point re what the mainstream tends to call 'news', it is NOT "huge!" as your title screams.... Please consider changing it as your present title is misleading, alarmist and feeds into the 'panic' vibe that many of us would rather avoid...

Yeah but still you could have made it clear you were being sarcastic. I guarantee you anyone clicking on your thread will be disappointed... you`ve doomed yourself.

First of all, I did consider throwing "Sarcasm" into the title. But then I thought, "no this IS huge". Because millions of people get their news from Yahoo. The fact that these four stories were the top headlines means that in millions of people's minds this was as "huge" a set of stories as existed at the time.

I've doomed myself? I don't get that at all.

And the fact that you present it in a deceiving manner is like taking a knife, sticking it into my back, and when I think the worst is over, you grab the handle and give it a nice twist.

I never intended to deceive, as I've stated before. Sticking a knife in someone's back and twisting? I mean no disrepect but aren't you being just a bit over-sensitive. It's just a thread on ATS.

Again, the last thing I intended was to offend, let alone alarm anyone. If it is taken that way then I apologize. However, I do stand by what I wrote based upon the reasons I've given.

Where are all the atheists disputing the G in OMG?

That is the real news story IMO

That's the stuff!

Now those are four stories worthy of real attention.

Thanks to you and the others for "getting" the point of the thread. I'm really quite surprised at some of the reactions of several members. I'm wasting people's time they'll never get back. I'm sticking knives in people's backs and twisting.

Wow! It's only a thread on ATS. I know passion can run high at this site at times, but wow!

Anyone besides me up for a group hug?

Thanks for the link!

Funny you should do that, because I have a co-worker who is starting to "wake-up" and he's been very keen on the Fukushima story. He asked me for an update yesterday and you know what? I couldn't find hardly anything on the internet, except a bit on ATS and a few other alternative news sites.

Seems like ADHD is running rampant nowadays. I might be afflicted as well. I've been scratching my head about all the seemingly blatant distracting news stories lately and what terrible thing they might specifically be distracting from.

Fukushima makes perfect sense.

Cheers!

The answer to this is very simple:

The majority of people want to read stories that make them feel warm and fuzzy, not alarmed and concerned.

It's interesting that the same thing that makes 2 billion people around the world warm and fuzzy can make me so alarmed and concerned...

I am not sure I agree with you. When we turn on the NEWS we want to see what is going on in the world REAL NEWS...people can read about celebs in magazines and watch talk shows, the NEWS on the other hand I think everyone really wants to see it all, good and bad mostly the major events going on it the whole world and/or local if you select the local news.
When i watch any news now even local news I get weddings/celb fights, drugs, divorce etc! There is NO news about our real world anywhere, used to you could find it easy still online, now it is hard to get the real news even online.

I disagree, it is HUGE if you can't get the news and know what is going on in the world you are in the dark and you are easily controled by your govenments. My son is leaving for Afghanistan his 3rd deployment, if any of our boys die there now you hardly hear it mentioned..it is important!
Do you hear if the radiation problem is better? We are getting hit with it daily, if i want to know about it, why can't I learn the situation on the NEWS?

Great replies. You probably could have written the OP better than me.

On a personal note, please know that I'll be saying a prayer tonight for your son. A friend of mine is leaving for there also.

yahoo's embraced commercialism just as most other home pages have(google's the only one i can think of that doesn't), they're a business like any other business. most of you would probably want to focus on any of those topics, too, as they're getting the most attention, and thus, bringing in more money. switch your home page to ATS(or infowars
) if you've got that big of a problem with it.

besides, yahoo's "news" comes from the AFP, so it really doesn't matter what "news" they have up.

Sarcasm is an acquired taste and most of the members here on ATS prefer oatmeal or grits.

Whaa - lmao. Back to the topic at hand:
We've just had the worst nuclear disaster in our history and I for one would like to have daily updates as to wth is going on in Japan and what do we get? Daily updates on celebrities (flakes) and royalty who don't have a clue as to what it's like to live in the real world.I think we're in deep trouble.
