Wow...large areas of the Southeast just got decimated by record setting tornadoes, with over 300+ dead and Texans are crying for FEDERAL help after some wildfires?

Yep. Tiny, little insignificant wildfires. You're right, Count. Just because aid was requested two weeks before those storms hit and the request has still been ignored means jack squat. Just because croplands that have burned up, meaning fewer people can eat, means nothing. Thanks for opening my eyes to my greed.

You Texans have grown SOFT on easy oil money and federal aid. I've worked out in Texas and yeah you folks need to get some nuts. You wont see any Southern folk crying for Federal Aid, unless its that certain segment that relies on it regardless of good times or bad.

And again you humble me with your keen intelligence and insight. I will write Governor Perry to ask him to please stop with all of this whining and just man up. And the same with any Texans on ATS. Quit your crying and just deal with it.

Texas is in for a lot more trouble:

Ash spreads to neighboring states
Reported by CNN

"We're actually seeing Texas burn from border to border. We've got it in west Texas, in east Texas, in north Texas, in south Texas -- it's all over the state," Forest Service spokeswoman April Saginor told CNN Radio. "We've got one in the Dallas area that's four fires that have actually merged together."

As the ash spreads towards the borders of Texas, surrounding areas must brace for the impact. Local recordings must be taken and reported to ensure the safety of the population.

Or maybe Texas shouldn't be paying into Federal taxes in the first place. Not giving help to Texas is a huge ripoff considering the are already paying into the system.

Actually, out of every dollar they pay in federal taxes, Texans get 94 cents back in federal money. This means that every year, Texans put less than a million bucks into the treasury. You're not exactly vital on that count.

This does put them in the unique position of being one of the very few "solid red" states that actually DOES pay taxes, however. Most of the others bring in more money than they pay.

The same guy who wanted to secede from the Union a while back is now begging for help?
Texas has manipulated for itself possession of the USA oil reserves and created monopolies in the fuel industry so they feel like they could make it on their own. And with a bargaining chip like that, perhaps they can. Why doesn't he get everyone together and pray for assistance?

I think they're waiting for the fires in Mexico to be extinquished first, otherwise the blaze will just be reignited by all the burning mexicans jumping the border.

Seriously though, when the fires were raging in California a few weeks back Aol News was flooded with comments from Texans typing in all caps no less "SCREW'EM!! LET THOSE LIBERAL BASTARDS COOK!!!" I'm not affiliated with any party, but I do think its funny how swiftly kharma works.

Between the tornados, the floods, the earthquakes, the fires, and the mudslides, not to mention the two Nuclear reactors that had to go offline from these storms, I think its safe to say that the separate States are going to have to be dependent on their own resources and volunteers. FEMA is spread thin as hell as it is. Could be all of this is to inact some sort of a FEMA expanding program, if you're looking for a true conspiracy in all of this.

Assistance?

Isn't this just another way to ask for
REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH?

To each according to his needs (need help do you Ricky?)
From each according to their abilities. (maybe Washington is in a position to help?)

Never though I would live to see the day....
Old Ricky's gone socialist on us now.

Perhaps you should take a gander at one of the "We are Texas and we want to secede now!" threads and you will probably see why. To hear such things as above coming from the same side of the room that you will also hear open pleas to God to throw California into the ocean is a little odd.

Lets face it Texans have always had the attitude that they are better than the rest of the country. Most already act like and talk like are not part of the US. I remember years ago they allegedly petitioned the UN to have their own country. I never heard the results of that. They think because they have oil and ports. The US needs them more than the other way around. Maybe all the farmers there who brag about how massive their farms are while other people in their state barely survive. A state whose court system has a long history of treating minorities shamefully. This list could go on. Maybe they are getting a reality check. Maybe its time to get off their high horse and fat cows. Maybe its time for their oil companies who run the state government by selling not only the Americans out but Texans too. Maybe its time to join the rest of the US.

You would think that the government would give out aid to the affected areas asap, what is the excuse for waiting?

I think obama needs to get his house in order.

West Texas pretty much burned throughout

I hope no one anywhere has to deal with the severity of drought like we have for the last decade nor the accompanying fires. Now some of you guys might say, well heck its just a little burned grass, it's gonna be fertile! well no folks its not like that, this is a very large area, very large that burned and continues to burn out here. We have gotten no rain to repair the damage of these fires that would be needed in order to say the land will be fertile, otherwise we would at least be able to know that we can work with the land in a few years time. Without that rain, it also makes the fires that much harder to contain. The potential issues for ag are unmeasurable because of it. You cannot drive down the roads without seeing large burnt areas! lol its that bad.

Very serious business there folks. Do you like to eat and drive? Like Texas or not, we help supply both of those parts of your lives. Please think about that before you spew political nonsense?

Anyway, firefighters from all available Texas counties are banding together to try to contain these fires. People are being burned or smoked out of their homes and peoples lives have been lost, livestock as well but they(the fire fighters and equipment) are out manned. It spreads and burns that fast here. At the very least, send a prayer for rain and that no one gets hurt. It is appreciated.

As a Texan, born and raised, I agree with the beggining of your post. I am proud to be a Texan. Proud to be u.s. Citizen? Not so much...

We are the only state that can fly our flag even with the u.s. Flag, if I recall correctly. So yes, we do feel a little more important. This is moo. And might make me look like an a$$, and thats ok.

P.s. I am about 10 minutes from the alamo, call me when you get there! Lol

It is written in our state constitution, but its legality would be questionable and it would be a hard-fought battle. What most of the Texas-haters don't realize is that if Texas ever did succeed, what we would be taking with us. Texas is the largest exporter of beef in the U.S. We are the second-largest producer of winter wheat. We have our own electrical grid; all of the other states share their grids with the others. We are the largest oil-producing state by almost 40%. We have the second-busiest shipping port.

Texas has the ability to become the richest country in the western hemisphere practically just on tariffs alone.

AND I guess Perry and his zombie followers wont be playing the "secession" card again for awhile, eh??
At least not until they get their Federal "socialist" "handouts" for sure.

HYPOCRITES!!!
