The people over 50 have something that you lack it is called 'wizdom' you gain it by living making mistakes and learning to judge people not the clothes they wear or their slick speeches.

If any group should be restricted from voting it would be that factor of society who gains more from taxes than they pay.

Let the people who pay the taxes decide how they should be applied.

I don't know how to reply to this one , first off I`m ont surprise considering the poster is clearly still drinking the Kool aid and hasn't come to grasp that both parties are bought and paid for . The Contempt and stereotyping of people over 50 is quite hypocritical.. I thoguht liberals are tolerant .
the Daily show the ceased being relevant for me back in 07 . Yeah Stewart throws scraps of info and political commentary for he's dowey eyed viewers here and there , but in the he's just another Controlled Mainstream media talking head . ..
Finally people over 50 have been paying their taxes into the system their entire lives damn STRAIT they have a right to vote !
People like YOU frighten me !!!!! %$^^&$##$%

What's so funny about this post its utter stupidity in the premise.

Try this one on for size instead: Some of the most illogical thinking, lack of life experience type of voting, and utter stupidity comes from people under the age of 25. I usually laugh when I read about some wind-dings at University protesting something--they sound hopelessly out of touch with reality.

I also laugh out loud at political polls with the under 25--socialist," the NDP will save us"--type of gonzo's.

A better idea would be to not allow those under 30 to vote, as they generally lack life experience, haven't had to raise kids or pay for a mortgage, or see how much is taken off their paycheck when the get their first job.

IN addition, generation Y is the most self-absorbed, coddled generation that may ever have been raised. You're mommy lied to you, you are not special.

No problem with this, just send all under 25's to Iraq.

isn't that basically what happened to the young men of this country already? You forgot to mention Afghanistan. Your generation is to blame for the worlds crisis. I wasn't even alive until the late seventies and your generation allowed corporations and the NWO to begin the following..I made a list

1. Gave them the ability to pollute the planet at faster rates than anytime in previous history.

2. Sidestep the U.S. mint and hand over our nations finances to the federal reserve which is a private bank.

3. Foolishly devoured every scrap of propaganda the government fed you. (Anyone can see just how obvious the
methods were back then.)

4. Fooled into following the same broken and corrupted system of electing only officials from two main parties who are controlled by the same power, thereby enforcing your belief you actually had some control over who rules you and takes away your freedom. (still happens btw but my generation sees it for what it is for the most part)

5. Scared into accepting and in some cases calling for tougher laws, added with more laws so that soon we will be hard pressed as a society to follow all the laws.(another one that still happens)

6. By voting tough on crime politicians into office, the prison industry gets a steady supply of slaves who get thrown into a vicious world of murders and true criminals. In the end who really benefits from this? They are not reformed when they get out nor do I think they even expected to get better. People who benefit on jailing damaged psyches wouldn't be able to build so many prisons if the ex prisoners were made better. No double dipping lmfao but greedy people will do it whenever possible and we see the results.

I have alot more but this should be more than enough. Your generation was one of the most hate filled of any I've studied thus far. Bet it angers your generation that we no longer segregate whites from blacks, rip native american children from their homes to be americanized then beat, molested by church officials in the boarding schools, and emotionally culturally scarred to this day. Your generation saw a second world war and will be instrumental to TPTB in starting the next one. Criminals are not allowed to vote because of their mistakes, why not your generation? What makes what your generation not guilty? I know one day I will be over 50, I think just your generation should be singled out for losing their voting rights.

I'm just impressed you had the balls to post this. Wow. You'll get there someday, you know? You'll be 50+ and you'll look back and laugh at yourself and realize just how young and dumb you were. Of course we've all been there, done that. But yeah, you will be there someday and smile...

Have you ever seen "Logans Run"?

One day, your hand calc will turn as well and YOU will be the one selected for "renewal".

As far as all of us "old farts" and the messiahs birth cert? Many of us are seeing the thing for what it is.

Judging people is what got us into a lot of the predicaments we are in today. Everything you just said confirms my earlier post. Except the "wizdom" part of making mistakes, which your generation certainly has it's fair share. Soon the common people of this land will not be able to pay their taxes any more. Your new world order that you either knowingly or unknowingly support is on track it seems. Congratulations on using your "wizdom" so well, it has served your interests and those who benefit from it.The youth are revolting against your system and the world is waking up.

Oh yeah, I think of the dumb mistakes I've made in my twenties, the lack of judgement and mistakes and yeah. I would never want to go back to my twenties. Yuck, no thanks.

Guy in his 20s here.

Why does everybody think old people are so much different than young people? They had the same hopes, dreams, aspirations. They have loved, been loved, and experienced a broken heart. They have seen wars far worse than you or I have. Depressions that would likely ruin our nation today they were able to bounce back from. They know the value of hard work, which is seriously lacking today. They know how to save their money instead of blowing it on the newest toys. They are often more patient than people today and understand that good things come with time. I have learned so much from my grandparents. And when it comes to technology, it is highly likely that my grandpa knows more about tech than the OP as he ran a multi-million dollar research laboratory. He knows how to build computers from scratch, knows their internal systems, how to code, make websites, edit photos, create movies, and can do it on Mac and PC (and even on Linux to an extent). My grandma isn't too shabby when it comes to technology either.

After saying all that, I can conclude that part of our problem today is that we aren't more like our grandparents. If we were less corrupt, had values, and worked hard, we could get our country out of this situation. Sure, all the members of the previous generations weren't perfect, but overall I believe that they are better than the majority of the crap that we have today. Mindless idiots running around screaming about how life is all about Snooki, tanning and hair gel.

And if you want to take it one step further about technology, I personally believe that technology is getting a little out of control. People don't talk to each other in person any more. And that's how TPTB want it. Nobody shows emotion about anything important any more. Nobody is fighting for social issues. They are too busy watching Real Housewives of LA or whatever. Meanwhile the government is slowly taking away our freedom. The TSA is molesting Miss America, our children and wives. But we're too busy texting a YouTube link from our iPhone 4 to our college buddy to even notice. Mindless zombies just wandering the earth! That's primarily what I see my generation to be. Hell, if even half the people from my generation just took some personal responsibility for what they do we'd be a lot better off! But they can't even do that! They always blame somebody else or just ignore it. Man the hell up men (and women). The previous generations could beat the snot of of you if they were your age. We're all a bunch of pretty pampered princesses today by comparison.

This is the truest reply.

These days, I realize there are smarter people in the older generation, but you had your rebellious 60's-70's and people your age at the time thought you were young and stupid.

But it is different, because your younger generation of awake people/hippies/ whatever; were the only sensible people of your era.

The rest of your parents were abusive and lacked common sense, they whipped you into shape, they never let you grow.

It's that same mentality that is the majority of voters today, and honestly, I agree to the OP's statement, but... I do not think it should just be at 50 years... perhaps like a fellow said earlier, an IQ test.

If you think your old generation did anything to benefit more than it did to destroy it, you're horribly mistaken.
Kudos for the war though?

I think we are on the same page lol I think deep down they know that somewhere along the way they were beaten into submission and their spirit broken, now we are expected to follow their example and it angers them people are questioning this system we live in more each day. I say either help us make it right or get the hell out of the way.

Don't you think people over 50 have a lot more knowledge and experience than people who are younger?

Being 27, I would have to say that people my age are complete idiots when it comes to politics and should have no business voting. They have no idea what a budget is, they have no idea how much the rest of the world hates us, they have no idea why they vote for who they do. They listen to their liberal teachers, they get their news from Comedy Central, they haven't lived a full life and have no idea how screwed our future is.

Especially the people who get their political information from Jon Stewart........

how bout you just ban voting cause it dosent make a difference. also way to go on fighing ignorance, i know lots of people over 50 and approaching 50 that are very informed and far from "scared old people" ageism is a form of perduice. its just another division and i think its AWSOME that you play into it on this board good job you contirbuted alot.

I got a better Idea…
Let’s impose a simple test on everyone about how the government is constructed; the constitution and the geography of the US for starters – that would disqualify most of the people right there. Then add some common sense impartial questions about the issues at debate in the current election that require people to actually understand them before anyone are able to cast a vote for one person or another.

Have you ever seen those “man on the street” interviews…a little scary if you ask me.

Especially with the younger “voters” – some of the one’s I saw from the young Obama supporters were worse than clueless. Their lack of knowledge of US Government and their whacky views coupled with their vote should have been considered criminal negligence. Now look where the youth vote got us….is anyone enjoying the inflation, debt and gas prices enough yet?

If I had my way full citizenship would be earned through service and knowledge not imparted by geography of one’s birth. Besides, that take out all the free loaders (anyone on the welfare roles) and the nere-do-wells (criminals) and it would be even better.

Actually the concept of this thread is nothing new to us seasoned members of society.

The idea of a new friend popping up and causing us mild discomfort is quite common.

They're called hemorrhoids.

I think anyone over 50 just needs to step back and let the people who have a firm grasp of technology and how the world works do the thinking and voting. The over 50's should stick to gardening, and while we are at it we should make them sit an annual driving test, that could save thousands of lives. Why we let these out of touch grumpy old farts decide who runs the country is beyond me.

,,,,Maybe not the best sentiment to express. Considering the age of many of us ATS'ers. I'm knocking on 50s back door and the only thing that really scares me now days is my wife.

Here's a much better idea:

Stop trying to look for ways to take other peoples freedom.

People like you are the problem. Easily swayed by clowns on TV.

By the way, I'm 26.
