IDK man. There's a relatively new saying these days that really barks my nerves, "It is what it is." That sounds down right defeatist to me. It could also say, "Don't bother, not worth the effort." I'm not pointing a finger at anyone but I REALLY hate that saying.

I know about kent state, the G.I. protests etc. etc. I've looked into the era quite a bit in a effort to find out what was going on and how it changed things past the narrative I was taught in school. However that was one event that was harshly criticized after the fact. Today we have countries doing whatever they can to quash protests. It seems everyday I check the RSS ticker there are reports of another country firing on protestors yet they continue.

The idea that my generation is afraid to stand up to authority is laughable.

Not in the US. I'm not sure where you are from, but here in the US the young are too busy with hedonism to be bothered with protesting anything. Hell, the nation could go totally facist tomorrow and most of the zombie youth wouldn't even be aware of it.

Young people are becoming slaves because old people like most in congress and corporations are selling everything off and being greedy. People over 50 only care about preserving the little fantasy world that was sold to them by the illuminati back in the day. Go retire please!

Teeky, Teeky, Teeky...:

Wasn't it you that needed someone else to do a "Google search", to find out what Logan's Run was? How the hell can you expect me to accept your conclusions concerning the Illuminati. The only reason the Illuminati exists today is because of fools, like yourself, believing in fantasies!

I'll decide when it's time to retire all by myself! In the meantime: Learn to use Google!

See ya,

thanks buddy

really though..look how people from different societies see us, my group of friends, some are in very good colleges BC, Bates college, Bentley univeristey, we all played sports through highschool now a couple of us have joined the marine corp i being one of them all of our parents are 50+ and we love when they tell us stories of when they were our age. people think that all we do is watch mtv and crap like that, i hate that channel so do all of my friends, we party but we also have respect for people who are much wiser then us.

we still listen to them because older people have a little thing called wisdom we are currently living through our generations vietnam....our parents lived through vietnam in the 60's and 70's so they know exactly what we are going through right now

i was brought up with a thing called respect your elders because you know something they have lived through the crap already they have a very firm grip of realitey

To the OP

Why stop at the 50 yr olds?
After you get them you can work on ending the lives of the mentally challenged. What a drain they are....right?
Hey!.....you can even do away with parenting! Since grown ups have nothing to teach the young......right?

YOU SCARE THE PISS OUTA ME!!!

It's your train of thought that leads to monsters like Adolf Hitler to rise and take power!

You say we're brainwashed? Look in the mirror if you want to see someone who's brainwashed! Loving the country I live in isn't from brainwashing, it's from love of country. Something the younger generation is severly and dangerously lacking!

Your a lemming ready to run off the cliff because you think everyone who Hoot's and Holla's for John Stewart is where it's at! You actually think the Daily Show is a real news show because real news stations hurt your head and you need to be entertained more than actuly using your brain.
I don't know how old you are but your lack of maturity leads be to belive your about 13 or so.

Have you sent this to your parents to see what they have thought of your brillant Idea?

Have your parents save this little Idea of yours and have them give it to you when you turn 50!
And belive me....time flys faster than you could ever imagine! And you will look back saying " I wish I knew what I know now ten years ago!"

Do yourself a favor and remove this thread!
Show us there's more to you than coming up with an Idea that a comic book writer would skoff at!

The older generations don't trust their own judgement. They raised us, so be confident that younger generations are capable of leading us into a more futuristic future.

You are a shining example of our failure to properly "raise" the next generation. Fortunately, you are the exception to the rule! Many, many young people, even those still in Kindergarten, are far wiser, and better educated than you.

I hope you respond with something like: I am a college graduate! If you do, I'll be laughing my ass off for the rest of the year! "Make my day!" (If you wonder where the quote came from, try Google. LOL)

Still glad I ain't your Grandpa,

You are exceptional, my friend. I know there are good young people out there who have had the benefit of good examples from loving parents. I'm 64 and I lived through the same period as your parents. Sounds to me like you have your act together. I was a leatherneck, as well in the 60's.

All the best and Semper Fi

Not a problem. Just let the folks over 50 not pay any taxes and I'm totally fine with not voting.

You can also take what I've already put into Medicare and Social Security. Just don't make me pay into those socialist ponzi schemes any more. I'm very happy to do that an sign a contract excusing the government from providing for me in my old age. If that means I'm living in a tent and eating out of dumpsters, so be it. I'm willing the risk of making my own choices with my money and taking the consequences. Don't make me pay for the poor life decisions made by those under 50. No WIC programs, no welfare or SSI, no free housing for folks who can't take care of themselves yet had children, no free school lunches for people who should have their kids taken away from them if they can't feed them. No social programs for those who are at the most productive stage in their lives. Cool

Not a problem. My vote does not count in any event and all I do is feed the beast. The youth of today are growing up to be the most irresponsible, laziest generation in our history. If folks today think the elderly of today are expensive to maintain, wait 40 years.

Okay go to www.usdebtclock.org
at the very bottom. US UNFUNDED LIABILITIES
Medicare (for 65 and over) comes to $79 TRILLION Dollars. Social Security comes in at $15 Trillion. And your trying to tell me these programs ARENT bankrupting our country?

As you can see, Social security and Medicare account for 35% of our spending.

And people should start to retire after 65. Atleast give the jobs and opportunity to the youth, we're the ones in need of life experience and to start building a savings.

While I disagree with your sentiment about social programs being evil and the reason for an economic undoing.

This country's young generation is the most self centered, lazy bunch I could imagine. Most all of the youth I speak to nowadays have this insane sense of entitlement. They seem to think they deserve things that they cannot afford simply because they want it. Their sense of work ethic seems to be a small fraction of what made this country such a wonderful place, and frankly...... what made it a world power. We had a superb infrastructure and standard of living not more than 40 years ago. Today we have millions who were born into the juicy goodness, yet they don't feel a sense of responsibility to retain and keep that goodness. Let alone expand on it. Kids today simply want things and feel they deserve things while they don't understand the concept of the word "earn".

I get the sense that the country is a macrocosm of a single child born with a silver spoon. The previous generations have done all the work with blood, sweat and tears for their future generation's benefit, yet those same generations that benefit from it do not have the sense of what it took to achieve what they're given. It spans most aspects of American life and it's going to become a monumental problem. When you say "wait to see in 40 years"; you're so right. This country needs a massive overhaul in corrective everything.

OR, pare down some of that National Defense money so that we COULD retire. Some seniors would like to retire but they can't. They can't afford it. That said 2 things. 1- Foreign policy would have to change, ie: stop screwing around in other peoples business. You wouldn't need all that money for the military then. 2- I'm not American. Though I understand the States quite well.

Mind you, I'm going by your graph. Secondly, I'm not in that position. I'll be able to retire comfortably with my own contributions to retirement.

3rd'd too ....

Sorry for this people but the word "retarded" comes to mind! narrow minded also, Hey im 43!! Voting is the right of all peoples of countries whose citizens have had the balls to stand up to tyrany and fought for freedom.. To deny anyones vote would be an insult to the people who gave their lives and freedoms for the right to decide!

Tell you parents you want them to give up the right to decide! Im sure you will be told your lucky to live in a land where you have the right and then to go to bed with no Tea!

Totally Stupid idea!!!!!

What are your thoughts on an annual defense budget of 670 billion?

Do you really think Medicare is bankrupting the United States when we have a larger defense budget than any other nation? This country's biggest economic problem is that we relentlessly spend on defense for wars needless wars.

Well said, my friend.

That "silver spoon" the young were born with is starting to tarnish. The youth will have to stop blaming the old for their own shortcomings or they will need to become used to living life as a third world country.
