Chapter 1

I sleep with the enemy

I sleep with the enemy
a very formidable opponent
I tried to give it away
but they claim I own it

I live in a prison
a self made single cell
equipped with self pity
my own lil corner of hell

I remember having a life
once upon a great time
but years fade to memories
today that's all I'll find

I use to know love
and it damn sure knew me
now I know loneliness
surely wasn't meant to be

I searched for knowledge
change the world I could
but wisdom comes too late
to do most any good

I peep out my window
stagnant, sabre and stare
then wonder why my enemy
put me in this chair

I now use a keyboard
a proxy for my best friend
but it can never replace
a gentle hand at the end

I see my life's story
played out on a stage
and see the spot light
unfocused in the haze

I feel the scars of life
oh so tattered and torn
then I truly wonder
why I was even born

I know that clown in the corner
the true to life size enemy
only in the end I realize
it was a reflection of me

That's my favorite verse! Nice poem, i like the point you are making. I sleep with the enemy every night too... and is probably my worst enemy!

Its OK as long as sleeping is all you do...

Nice work Boon, you know I had a dream about you the other night. How weird is that, there was no funny business and i dont remember much but you were in it and you had black hair.

I think that is an interesting take
I am my own best enemy
and as long as we can get to sleep
most...some nights without an anesthetic

I did have black hair
now only Ms. Clairol
makes it black

This was very well written Boondock, and I wonder myself sometimes, if I am not my own worst enemy.

I am not one who usually enjoys poetry, but this one was worth it, and I enjoyed it, it really touched me, thank you for sharing it with us.
