A record 18.3% of the nation's total personal income was a payment from the government for Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, unemployment benefits and other programs in 2010. Wages accounted for the lowest share of income — 51.0% — since the government began keeping track in 1929.

The income data show how fragile and government-dependent the recovery is after a recession that officially ended in June 2009.

The wage decline has continued this year. Wages slipped to another historic low of 50.5% of personal income in February. Another government effort — the Social Security payroll tax cut — has lifted income in 2011. The temporary tax cut puts more money in workers' pockets and counts as an income boost, even when wages stay the same.

As more and more people retire, it is only going to get worse.

Whats a proven way to tell you that the shizat is gonna hit the fan is by the pure numbers that gold and silver are trading for. Gold hit a record high, while silver surged more than 5 per cent to within a whisker of its all-time peak, as the dollar continued its decline and inflation concerns drove haven flows. Gold rose 1 per cent to $1,518.20 a troy ounce, the seventh-consecutive trading session in which it has hit a record high. Silver surged 5.5 per cent to $49.17 an ounce, having hit a 30-year high of $49.80, within sight of the landmark $50 level.

talk about a tried and tested method of assets suggesting something big.

Its actually much higher than that. In the world of government, there is never a value placed on non-cash handouts. No value is placed on public housing, subsidized utilities and phone, free mass transit handouts, free job training, etc. To get a clear picture of the size of government handouts, you would need to convert all items received by people, including medical care into a dollar equivalent based on current market values for said services.

Thats a bit dicey to do for the government however, since it would not be too popular to learn that the person who is on maximum government assistance is receiving government handouts well above the poverty level and actually doing far better than many working class folks.
