I hear Joplin is really bad, injuries and deaths.
The storms are still out there and we should
feel the second wave in about an hour where
I am in Indiana. Those in the wake of these
storms should listen to weather and get
to a safe location.

WARNING: Contains a first hand eyewitness video of the tornado that hit Joplin, MO that may be too much for some to handle. I repeat DO NOT listen to this unless you can handle extreme situations. The video does not have much of anything to be seen. It is what you hear that is sheer terror.

The video i took while at Fastrip on east 20th street. We huddled in the back of the store until the glass got sucked out , then ran into the walk in storage fridge. Sorry for the lack of visuals but the audio is pretty telling of how intense the storm was. The tornado hits at around 1:20 seconds.

I watched this clip this morning and it is one of the most terrifying / moving clips ever. To be huddled with your loved ones knowing this monster is bearing down on you and there is absolutely nothing you can do. Made me pick up my little lad and give him a huge hug.

My wishes go out to all who have been effected by this, and other tornados.

1001 AM CDT MON MAY 23 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...NCNTRL AND NE TX...SW AR...NW LA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH NEEDED SOON

VALID 231501Z - 231530Z

CORRECTED FOR WORDING

A SEVERE THREAT IN NCNTRL TX SHOULD INCREASE AS STORMS MOVE EWD INTO
THE ARKLATEX LATE THIS MORNING INTO EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS CURRENTLY BEING ISSUED FOR THE AREA.

A CELL IS RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING OVER HOOD COUNTY TX ALONG THE ERN
EDGE OF STRONG INSTABILITY WITH MESOANALYSIS SHOWING MLCAPE VALUES
ACROSS NORTHWEST AND CNTRL TX IN THE 2500 TO 3500 J/KG RANGE. IN
ADDITION TO THE INSTABILITY...THE WSR-88D VWP AT FORT WORTH SHOWS
ABOUT 30 KT OF DEEP LAYER SHEAR WITH SOME DIRECTIONAL SHEAR IN THE
LOWEST 2 KM. THIS ALONG WITH VERY STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES
ESTIMATED TO EXCEED 9.0 C/KM ACROSS NCNTRL TX...SHOULD SUPPORT
SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT WITH A THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL. AN ISOLATED
THREAT FOR 2 INCH OR GREATER DIAMETER HAILSTONES SHOULD EXIST AS THE
STORMS BECOME INTENSE LATE THIS MORNING INTO EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1034 AM CDT MON MAY 23 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...SRN AND CNTRL MO

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 337...

VALID 231534Z - 231700Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 337
CONTINUES.

THE SEVERE THREAT ACROSS THE ERN PART OF WW 337 MAY EXPAND EWD
ACROSS SE MO EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED WIND
DAMAGE WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE MORE INTENSE LINE-SEGMENTS. WW
ISSUANCE MAY BECOME NECESSARY ACROSS SE MO AND NRN AR OVER THE NEXT
HOUR.

AN MCS LOCATED FROM NEAR LEBANON MO EXTENDING SWWD TO JUST SOUTH OF
JOPLIN MO WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ESEWD INTO SE MO AND FAR NRN AR. THE
STORMS ARE LOCATED ALONG THE NRN EDGE OF MODERATE INSTABILITY WITH
MESOANALYSIS ESTIMATED MLCAPE VALUES RANGING FROM 2000 TO 3000 J/KG.
IN ADDITION...A 30 TO 40 KT JET AT 700 MB IS ANALYZED JUST BEHIND
THE MCS IN FAR NE OK. THIS FEATURE ALONG WITH A POCKET OF STRONG
INSTABILITY IS LIKELY PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR AN ISOLATED WIND DAMAGE
THREAT WITH THE MCS. THIS THREAT MAY DEVELOP EWD ACROSS SE MO EARLY
THIS AFTERNOON. THE STRONGER CORES WITHIN THE MCS MAY ALSO CONTAIN A
THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL.

EASTERN OKLAHOMA- HEADS UP!

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0896
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0208 PM CDT MON MAY 23 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...WRN OK...NW TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY

VALID 231908Z - 232045Z

A SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY DEVELOP ACROSS WRN OK AND NORTHWEST TX
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AS STORMS INITIATE. INITIALLY...LARGE HAIL WILL
THE GREATEST THREAT BUT A TORNADO THREAT WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE AS
THE STORMS BECOME MORE MATURE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. WW ISSUANCE WILL
BE LIKELY ONCE INITIATION OF MULTIPLE STORMS BECOMES MORE CERTAIN.

AT THE SFC...A 1002 MB LOW IS LOCATED IN FAR NE TX PANHANDLE WITH A
DRYLINE EXTENDING SWD INTO WEST TX. EAST OF THE DRYLINE...SFC
DEWPOINTS ARE IN THE UPPER 60S AND LOWER 70S F WITH MESOANALYSIS
ESTIMATING MLCAPE VALUES FROM 3500 TO 4500 J/KG ACROSS MUCH OF WRN
OK AND NW TX. VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS SOME CUMULUS TOWERS IN
BECKHAM COUNTY OK. ATTM...THE CUMULUS FIELD IS VERY SMALL BUT IS
EXPECTED TO EXPAND OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO AS LOW-LEVEL
CONVERGENCE INCREASES ALONG AND TO THE EAST OF THE DRYLINE. THIS
ALONG WITH INCREASING LARGE-SCALE ASCENT ASSOCIATED WITH A SHORTWAVE
TROUGH MOVING INTO THE SRN PLAINS FROM THE WEST SHOULD RESULT IN
VIGOROUS STORM INITIATION. AS STORMS INCREASE IN COVERAGE...THE
STRONG INSTABILITY AND DEEP LAYER SHEAR OF 40 TO 45 KT SHOULD
SUPPORT SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT. LARGE HAIL WILL BE LIKELY AND A
TORNADO THREAT MAY ALSO DEVELOP ESPECIALLY AS THE STORMS MATURE AND
THE LOW-LEVEL JET INCREASES EARLY THIS EVENING.

Saw this article today while checking the weather. Perspective: Deadliest Tornado Year Since 1953

First...it was a mid-April three-day outbreak, with tornadoes near the Jackson, Miss. metro, then through Raleigh, N.C.

Then, an awful late April outbreak culminating with almost 250 tornadoes over a 4-day period, including Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Ala.

Now...a destructive weekend of tornadoes including a monster tornado that may have been over one mile-wide slicing through Joplin, Mo.

TWC Severe Weather Expert, Dr. Greg Forbes (Find him on Facebook) now says the Joplin, Mo. tornado is the deadliest single U.S. tornado in almost 58 years, since 90 were killed in Worcester, Mass. on Jun. 9, 1953.

The last tornado to have claimed 100 lives or more in the U.S. was the Flint, Mich. tornado of June 8, 1953. There are only 14 tornadoes documented in U.S. history that have claimed over 100 lives.

Top 10 deadliest tornado days

•April 27, 2011 (Ala., Tenn., Ga., Miss., Va.): 315[
•April 3, 1974 ("Super Outbreak"): 307
•April 11, 1965 ("Palm Sunday Outbreak"): 260
•March 21, 1952: 202
•June 8, 1953 (Flint, Mich., etc.): 142
•May 11, 1953 (Waco, Tex, etc.): 127
•Feb. 21, 1971: 121
•May 25, 1955 (Udall, Kan., etc.): 102
•May 22, 2011 (Joplin, Minneapolis): 91
•June 9, 1953 (Worcester, Mass.): 90 /ex]

My electric just came back on after 3 hours. A small tornado
touched down in Van Wert, Indiana - took some barn roofs
off. I was a little shook up when we got the alert and then
we were not sure where it touched down until now. We
were just clipped by the wind, rain and lightening.

I see the death toll in Joplin as risen since I was last here - so very
sad. I am hoping a lot of other towns and communities are
helping them out. I haven't had time to read all of the
posts, will do that now.

We have not had a top ten killer tornado day in 37 years, until this year when there has been 2 in 2 months.

Turns out my nephew was in that tornado. He was at a IHOP with a friend. Like the people in the above video, they ran into the cold storage. He has a picture up on facebook that shows the front of the store ripped off, with the storage unit exposed. At the pizza hut down the street, everyone was killed.

Praying for all involved and thankful for those spared.
