I'm really happy for you and your family that your newphew survived. Watching the coverage on tv, it's a miracle anyone in the path made it out alive.

CNN meteorologist is talking with Piers Morgan tonight, and Pierce asked him a 'Just what the hell is going on??" kinda question...

The expert showed a graph that displayed deaths from tornados since the 1900's to now.....the deaths were very high in the beginning, as there was not technology in place to warn people...then around the 80s to last year, death tolls dropped dramatically.

But then......

THIS YEAR ALONE we have met and surpassed death tolls from the 1950's , very unprecedented and he publically stated that experts admit that there is NO explanation for just 'what the hell is goin' on'.

This is NOT normal

Anderson just said it was getting real windy there and the temps dropped fast.. chilly he said. THAT is a huge warning sign to take cover. A Tornado is near... He's nuts.

The storms and tornados are marching right across the US from Oklahoma, MO, TX, etc. We are
in for severe weather here in Indiana in the next several hours and tomorrow.. Joplin certainly doesn't need another one, this is terrible. I survived a strong tornado in the 1950's - was separated from my Mom for hours, couldn't find her, I finally did and she was injured but alright. I feel for any child that cannot be with their parents in a situation like this.

Keep an eye on these storms and stay safe.

We are about to bug out to a friends house with a pretty nice basement. We are not playing around with this one. We usually huddle in the bathroom, but after seeing those foundations of what used to be houses, screw that.

Stay safe my friends. It happens fast. Be prepared.

From 2000-2010, the NOAA tornado database has 604 fatalities.
In 2011, the total, as of yesterday morning, is 481.
Not too sure how many more to add from Joplin and from last nights events.

I think that fact alone speaks volumes as to violent this years tornados have been.

Some threatening clouds just went over here east of St Louis, looks like a funnel cloud was trying to form. I got video of it I'll upload in a bit if I can. (stinking cell phone doesn't come with a usb cable)

Here's a picture I took, its not as impressive as some are but these clouds were definitely rattling my nerves:

The clouds were rolling horizontally very fast with some slight vertical spin in the area of the pic to the left of the tower next to the tree. As many probably already know a funnel cloud forms when this rolling motion turns completely vertical all up into the cloud, sometimes a tornado forms when the cyclone hits the ground. You can see the tornado siren right there next to the tower (it's quite loud right here when its on), though it wasn't activated a tornado watch was in effect.

I think my script blockers are preventing me from uploading video to ATS, or its a bug.

I'm from MN and most homes here have full basements. That perhaps prevents the amount of death/injuries. I'm just curious as to whether the homes down south have basements or not. Also, I believe our homes are built to withstand snow loads so maybe they are built stronger? I only thought of this while watching the news and seeing the high death tolls from the tornadoes down south.

Last night we were under a tornado watch but did not have a tornado. We did have very strong winds and thunderstorms. It was a little scary after the Joplin storm. There was another tornado in Joplin, one in Okalahoma and a few in Kansas.

With the Joplin, MO EF-5 tornado upgrade;
4 EF-5 tornados have occurred this year, the most EF-5/F-5s in a year since 1974

My prayers are with you all,

Cant believe how much destruction and severity of this year aready, terrible really is.

Please guys if you live in such places at risk THERE IS AN SOLUTION , not for today or now but so it never happens to you again:

Meriam Franklin at FCCC reported: “The tornado cut a path through the back portion of Faith Chapel’s property, and had we not chosen to go with the Monolithic dome structure, there is no doubt that the amount of damage would have been much more significant. Pretty much all of the non-dome structures on and around our campus in the tornado’s path were either severely damaged or completely destroyed….”
