Isn't an empire made up of a whole lot of cogs turning together and the further the expansion of the empire the more cogs get added so it gets harder to get to the centre area and see whats going on.

I suspect when the British empire started shrinking, the then hidden top men merely rowed over the pond and since probably about 1917, they have esconsed within the central cogs that turn the USA Empire. Without a doubt there is a hidden group, completely separate from ordinary society that has enabled itself to simply take over whatever country it likes and through controlling its money dictates policy. This unwanted crust has no loyalty even to the citizens of the country it runs and exploits and sacrifices their lives in wars that simply make its Institutions money and through that commodity feed its lust for power, the only things it worships. If things were run correctly half of Wall Street would be in jail, and the same goes for the UK's City lot.

Britain and the USA both have governments, that despite the fascade of upper and lower houses trusted to make right policies for us, are made up of only two parties which now are clearly due to the no change in especially foreign policy, one single entity regardless of whose running things. This effectively gives the public no political say when they vote.
Would you honestly call either country a democracy in reality?

In fact our weakness may well be our strength, if there's anything left of either country by the next time we hold elections. Its whether we choose to maintain the current political crust or whether we withold our votes till we are offered politics we feel will actually benefit the antiquated infrastructures that make our countries worth living in, especially for the future of our children and families. Sorry to be a Brit commenting on the USA but so much of what people here are saying is as it is in England. Still at least you aren't having to pay for a wedding for one of the richest families in the world with your tax payer's money - yes I do wish Wills every happiness though.

Recently elections just seem like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

That statement pretty much sums it up! I'm in my fifties and I also have taken notice of the same things you've listed. Years ago Bush Jr. and Cheney would have definitely been impeached out of office. It amazed me the amount of ferocity they went after Clinton, but turned a blind eye to Bush's administration.

Our constitutional rights have been violated without our media or elected officials being outraged. Since when would we have invaded a country and changed the reason while we were there (3) times? How can the media just sit back when Obama clearly lied to the people about closing Guantanamo, and ending the war in Iraq. Now he said we're going to have troop in Afghanistan until 2014?

The propaganda the U.S. spewed about the Soviet Union spreading Communism around the world, is alive and well in America now. We have troops stationed all around the world and have invaded countries that the U.S. said they would never do. Who's the boogy man now?

There is a lot of reasons, i'm primarily in NYC but have a second house in the mountains upstate and they are to two different worlds,

The NYC world nobody really seems to cares, unless something like 9/11 happens and then people band together but that mood only last a few weeks then its back to its all about ME!!!,
In the City its all about money and shinny things, most people don't have a clue whats going on around them, only what they hear on the local network stations.

Hell i remember i knew everyone in my neighbor hood, now i don't even know my neighbors name. but then again they don't speak English. My neighborhood has turned into a third world nation, who only care about bringing their culture here and picking up were they left off and don't care about this country. all i hear is how they hate America.

Friends and family i do talk to about whats going on in the world just say "wells thats just how things are these days, what are you gonna do, plus i'm so busy working, trying to pay bills i have no time to care about anything" I tell tell them there is a lot that can be done and doesn't take that much time to make a difference and to help change whats going on in this country, but all i get are blank stares and it falls on deaf ears. and somebody will say with a smile "who wants to go to the mall".

Most of the people think i'm nuts cause of my views on whats going on in the world and who's to fault and how we could fix things and that i refuse to fly cause of the tactics of the TSA / DHS. i get a dumb looks and well how do you go on vacation if you don't fly ? i'm speechless,
and as i look at these people all i see around me are mindless zombies, who just complain and go about what they were doing. its real sad.

So in NYC alone there are 7 million people who are blind deaf and dumb to America going down the toilet. one million if that many are aware but the numbers for change are to small to make a difference.
This is the problem in most large cities nobody cares, this makes it easy for the TPTB to do what ever they want, take all of our liberties away and most people don't even know they lost them.

Upstate NY, people are more grounded and still remember America and what it stands for or once did and want it back for themselves and future generations, Most people i talk to or know in upstate NY share the same views as i do and believe in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. and have lost all fate in our political system and all that goes with it.
I think most people on this site share the same views some what or we wouldn't be here.

America may need to fall so we can clean house of all the garbage, and rebuild and reinstill values back into what was once a great and proud country.

What surprises me the most about the politics is that the new politicians believe they can fix the debt. I believe the debt is irreversible and is going to grow untill the day the US falls. Obama spend more money in 24 months than Bush did in 8 years and now he wants to reduce the debt. Too little, too late.

The final question of the OP was:

"I simply want to know how in the heck we reached this point and within a breathtakingly short span of time in relation to our history? Do you think we can ever go back and restore our honor?"

We reached this point because there has been no interest amongst most to have it any other way. Fat and feelin' fine was indicative of most Americans till recently.

They watched the takeover of their nation by elites and said nothing.

When they weren't happy they voted in the other puppet party, and said nothing.

When they took prayer out of the public forum, they said nothing.

When they made it legal to murder 1.5 million little unborn babies every year, they said nothing.

When they sent young men off to wars for no damned good reason, they said nothing.

When they killed 3,000 citizens in NYC and blamed it on a man in a cave, they said nothing.

When they took away all our rights and blamed it on a man in a cave, they said nothing.

You ask if we can restore our honor...I ask, what honor? A long time ago a wise man said this:

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind

Hosea 8:7

Without an armed civilian population (especially with a government as power hungry as ours) we would have no means to defend ourselves against our own tyrannical regime. Without an armed population what is to stop them from marching troops into every community, enslaving us all and declaring "There is nothing you can do about it". (They do it to others, they will do it to us)

I try to avoid 2nd amendment arguments. I see no more reason to obsess over guns one way or another, than I see a need to obsess over a hammer.

However, it just happens that the pro-gun side comes up with some of the more stupid crap, so I end up laughing at them more. This is a prime example.

"We need guns to fight off our tyrannical government!" - Yeah? Really? You and what army? You and what navy, air force, marines, coast guard, and whoever else, too? hate to break it to you, but while Samuel Colt might have made all men equal, Lockheed-Martin makes the US government a god before which men tremble.

if the government wants to go all tyranny on your butt (and frankly, most Americans are so amazingly stupid that they think elections are "tyranny" half the time) then... well, they have bombs and fighter jets, and you have a handgun with 17 rounds. Good luck.

A narrow minded( I might add "cowardly" if i was in a mean spirit today; which I'm not) view sir:
"Their guns are bigger": so we should just what? ( rollover and lay there?)
There are two conditions:One: We have access to our firearms and generate the will and fortitude to draw a line in the sand and push back;
Or Two: we don't and we sit in the dark grinding under our servitude and hope they won't hurt us too awfully bad. Personally I am holding onto number one.

You are aiding number two by sowing ridicule and doubt: " give up your only defenses ; you could get killed by a predator drone!!!!".

aded: by the time I would "go to war" the choice beteen "do something "or if you do something you might get killled" will have winnowed to being meaningless. Especially Jefferson and the constitution say"govt change"( these ideas) should not be taken for "light reasons"

As i agree with your post whole heartedly op, the problem in my view is not video games, porn, or our elected leaders, BUT what i heard recently from our younger generation that has fell lock stock barrel for the main stream media biased-twisted views.

My question to her was, " Do you feel it is ok for America to be giving out foreign aid in the billions to countries such as Israel, while we watch our country fall into the gutter, such as 40 percent of families in idaho having to use food stamps to supplement, or possibly financial aid assistance to college's being voided out?"

Her response was since she does not need financial aid she does not care,as Americans need to get a bit more resourceful as they have a just duty in Democratizing the rest of the world, and sending aid even if it means its our last dollar.

But remember foreign aid is less than one percent of our national debt

Thus, our problem, Americans have become self centered, and as long as nothing bad happens to them, hell with the rest

I don't feel sorry for any of you.

You folks were all warned this was going to happen more than 18 years ago by David Icke and everyone chastised and continues to rebuke him.

Naomi Wolf in her two books, "The Losing of America" and "Give Me Liberty" also warned everyone back in 2007. How many of you read my various posts, wherein I told you to absolutely go out and buy and read her two books?

Did any of you listen to me.........................bet not.

Instead of reading books that enlightened yourself and instead of watching the Senate and Congressional Channel and keeping in contact with your reps on how they are voting on your behalf, the vast majority of you watch Dancing with the stars, gulp down vast amounts of calorie laden fast food that dull your brains, read your romance novels, play your aggressive silly little video games, yak on your cell phones constantly in meaningless chatter and allowed yourselves to be distracted, dumbed down and remained compliant sheep hoping that the slaughter truck won't come for you.

"Oh who cares, this new ruling will only effect my neighbor or the next town".

Well, this is how apathy and being a good little corporate drone works out.

We now live in a fascist police state, soon to be a prison planet, run by the large corporations that own the seat of our governments (yes plural because many other countries have now been taken over as well. This has now escalated to a global issue).

Welcome to the New World Order my fellow inmates.

“By far the most dangerous foe we have to fight is apathy - indifference from whatever cause, not from a lack of knowledge, but from carelessness, from absorption in other pursuits, from a contempt bred of self satisfaction”
William Osler (Canadian Physician, 1849-1919)

“So much attention is paid to the aggressive sins, such as violence and cruelty and greed with all their tragic effects, that too little attention is paid to the passive sins, such as apathy and laziness, which in the long run can have a more devastating effect.” Eleanor Roosevelt (American United Nations Diplomat, Humanitarian and First Lady (1933-45), wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd US president. 1884-1962)

And this last quote says it all about apathy, the I don't care attitude..............

“Apathy is the glove into which evil slips its hand” Bodie Thoene

Freedom does not come free, one must ever be vigilant and ready to nip this facist poop in the bud, but most of you sat back, and just allowed this to happen.

Bush stole two elections
We still have a two party system..........................a third party never gets the majority vote.
And no it's not even Obama, he's simply a puppet - it is the major corporations and a select hand few, some of which may not even be homosapien that now rule over us.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/04b7e2b240b0.jpg[/atsimg]

All the while Bush was president, I read numerous ATSers saying what a wonderful president he was........did you all bother to study this jerk's background?

Did any of you study all the presidents since JFK and the inch by inch dismantling of our Constitution of the United States?

I did and tried to alert you all to no avail.............so be it.

Again, the majority of you spineless compliant sheep get exactly what you deserve. Unfortunately those of us that tried to warn you will have to boil in the same kettle you made for us all.

Good luck, you will need it.

"United we stand, Divided we fall" (Aesop) is a phrase that has been used in mottos, from nations and states to songs. The basic concept is that unless the people are united, it is easy to destroy them. This is a counter to the maxim divide and rule.

Hi all,

This is my first post on ATS, so apologies if I make any faux pas or anything. Great thread, really interesting reading and felt that my views may be relevant here. I am British, living in Britain, and I must say that you guys over the pond are not alone. To look at the original post, we are in similar, if not completely identical, circumstances. Maybe even worse.

1) We follow our American allies into every warzone they feel like participating in, without ever saying "Erm, hang on a sec...."
2) $6.00 a gallon? That is CHEAP! We are currently paying £5.90 a gallon, that is $9.62.
3) Our education budget has been slashed, resulting in a huge drop in student demographics (I am a teacher), meaning over the next 10 years (if we get 10 years) we face a significant drop in college attendence, creating an uneducated underclass.
4) We are making soldiers who are in Afghanistan and Libya REDUNDANT while they are in the field
5) Our NHS is being cut to ribbons, meaning we are facing 3 months plus waiting times for operations.
6) Our political system is no different, every electable party we have is run by 90% public school (Eton etc, upper class) attendees. Every choice we have is the same.
7) Our neighbours, Europe, are collapsing economically left, right and centre. Greece, Portugal, Ireland with probably Spain being next on the list, and if that happens..........
8) Our bankers, though causing or contributing to the current economic crisis, get bonuses of £1m +, while Public Sector workers get pay cuts/freezes or redundencies.
9) Nearly 60% of our economy is through the public sector (run by the government) leaving a measly 40% left to the private sector. This means here in England 6 in 10 of the working population get paid by the government, to then give it back to the government in taxes. Sustainable......? No.
10) Our biggest media outlet (the BBC) is government run, and paid for by the population by paying a TV License.
11) University fees this year went up from £3000 a year to £9000 a year, leaving the average student a debt of £27000 ($44023.50). That is a mortgage before they even have a house.
12) An estimated 1 in 8 of the UK population is an immigrant.

I could go on and on, but I think you all know the drill. You guys are not alone, but how long can this last? The U.S. are not exactly viewed with rose-tinted glasses like you used to be, not by any means, not since G. W. Bush somehow got the reigns of power. But we aren't covered in glory over here, we have become lapdogs to your administration, caught between pis$ing you guys off or pis$ing Europe off.

BUT! We have started the protests over here, students, teachers, Public sector workers have all taken to the streets and more are planned. The question is, does it do any good?

But hey! We have a Royal Wedding happening next week! How is that for timing?

Regardless of what side of the pond one lives, we beat them at their own game. We refuse to vote en masse at the elections. .

Those very expensive election campaigns are run to gain votes. Nothing else so by refusing to play ball and not voting, it will teach them and their financial backers that the public are not to be trifled with. If they have to repeat their election campaigns, borrow another lot of finance it will hurt them deeply. It will also teach them that without a mandate acceptable to the people, they can't govern. If we want change without a civil war that is the way to do it.

Exactly right!

Voting in a rigged election accomplishes NOTHING. It just gives an OK to the two party fraud...see attached video on The Truth About Voting:

they could care less about your vote, they just want to get into office. so what would be the result if we did what you are saying? a handful of people would get to decide who gets in office. and life would go on as it always has.

your idea would not change anything. the best way to get at them would be to vote outsiders in who still think like and consider themselves normal american citizens.

can you imagine if Ron Paul, one of the only responsible US politicians actually got elected to be president!
can you imagine if Ron Paul and say Jesse Ventura ran together and won!!!!!! They would restore honor to this great country.

The only problem is the elections are probably all controlled and rigged by a handful of insiders. look at how Harry Reid stole the Nevada election! If you had talked to almost ANYONE in Nevada, no one voted for him. You rarely saw any Harry Reid signs on anyone's front lawn, only Sharon Angle posters. People know that he stole it as they can't even find these Reid supporters yet somehow he maintained a constant 5% lead throughout the election which statistically impossible! its a very sad situation.

as Stalin said, I don't care who votes as long as I count the votes.
