Without an armed civilian population (especially with a government as power hungry as ours) we would have no means to defend ourselves against our own tyrannical regime. Without an armed population what is to stop them from marching troops into every community, enslaving us all and declaring "There is nothing you can do about it". (They do it to others, they will do it to us)

I try to avoid 2nd amendment arguments. I see no more reason to obsess over guns one way or another, than I see a need to obsess over a hammer.

However, it just happens that the pro-gun side comes up with some of the more stupid crap, so I end up laughing at them more. This is a prime example.

"We need guns to fight off our tyrannical government!" - Yeah? Really? You and what army? You and what navy, air force, marines, coast guard, and whoever else, too? hate to break it to you, but while Samuel Colt might have made all men equal, Lockheed-Martin makes the US government a god before which men tremble.

if the government wants to go all tyranny on your butt (and frankly, most Americans are so amazingly stupid that they think elections are "tyranny" half the time) then... well, they have bombs and fighter jets, and you have a handgun with 17 rounds. Good luck.

Sure I could run and seek refuge in some isolated region, but honestly the problem I seek to escape (abusive lying authority) exists in many forms all across Earth. Injustice and persecution are universal, rather than local, issues.

No, I will not run and hide.
What is the meaning of life anyways?

If I ran, I would always have to run, because the darkness surrounds us and encroaches from all angles.

I think I am done running. I'll just stand my ground here and put up a fight.

I am with you, and it is true that its the entire world that is being destroyed in front of our eyes. I am with you I love this country I just hate what our perverse government has done to our great homeland.

Vomit-worthy quote of the day (courtesy of WRH):

"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do." -- NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani

There you go. This mindset and those who accept it, and evidently there are many who do, allow all of this to proceed unchecked. I take heart in the fact that this can not go on forever, though. Right? Certainly it must come down at some point, though as to how much further along this nonsense will be by then is anyone's guess...

WOW all that makes the US look terrible without mentioning how its own citizens are treated! Parasitic police that murder and Mame. Fines for everything & jail for those who cant pay them. Less protections than the people of the Nations our Military occupies have.

Try exercising your right to a trial by a jury of your peers for a fraudulent speeding ticket and you will be chopped off at the knees. Yet a welfare whore mother like China Arnold from Dayton Ohio gets 3 trials costing taxpayers millions for Microwaving her baby to death, yes you read that right...

My Country rewards failure and punishes responsibility. Over the long years that America has weathered we have mutated into something altogether different.

So the next time you hear some Toby Keith song professing love for America, turn it off. Next time you meet some ignorant patriot claiming that he lives in the greatest nation on Earth show them this thread and remind them to open their #ing eyes and take a look around.

I'd like to point out that there has never been any REAL opposition to the government (we can't do that, or we are terrorists!); even this tea party bull# is not even grassroots: IT'S FUNDED BY OIL BILLIONAIRES.
We have opposition within the system; but really, when has that ever really enacted real change; oh yea, it hasn't! Our elected officials are neck deep in special interests for big business. We let this happen to ourselves.

Unfortunately for the corporations (or maybe on purpose), their greed has triggered an economic downward spiral...and we are being exploited for all we're worth before everything collapses (Goldman-Sachs, Merrill-Lynch, etc. bailouts). I don't know if they are deliberately crashing the dollar or what, but it won't be the world-currency standard for much longer. America is in for a big surprise, that's what I think.

I don't want to fear monger or anything, but if people here honestly believe things are going to get better, you are out of your #ing mind.

The cavalry is not coming this time folks. We're on our own.

Sobering to see it laid out so clearly... Every single thing on the list is greed driven. Think about it.

And no "-ism" is going to fix these--neither capitalism (obviously), socialism, or anything else. The only change that will work is one that fixes people's greed based thinking. And that's true spirituality. No religion here. A true change in the hearts of the people. Maybe our solar systems upcoming trip thru the center of the galaxy will do it ; )

It is a Democrat and Republican issue because the D's and the R's are one of the same, we have to purge our government of both of them before we can ever hope things can get better. Remember 90% of the government is either R or D so that is where your corruption comes from...

hmmm, america use to be great, i could not help reading your list and thinking that would be the best plan on how to destroy a country that is/was so healthy.

so the question is how come politicians supposidly work for the people yet seem to have done all the right things to destoy what was good over generations? was it a series of mistakes by presidents and politicians? or was that the plan that you listed?

You cannot defeat tyranny in the long run through utilization of violence as a solution.

The reason why this is so, is because tyranny is shaped through violence in the first place, and pursuing it for political aims is part of tyranny itself.

In an interesting way, what humanities' core problem here is the "circle of violence". By using violent acts to get our way, we would be completing the next loop of that circle of violence.

The only way to break the chains of domination that we are imprisoned within is that we must seek peaceful resolutions.

I Have to say wow. I really do. That''s been my feelings for a while. It's like you read my mind. Only things I have to had to the list is that most people complain about oil prices without knowing why they are going up. Oil is tied to the dollar. the dollar loses value than oil costs more. also food. All that out of season fruit you see at Wally World. Imported. When USD declines in value everything goes up. Most people just think that they are charging more. That is true in some case but most is just that what a dollar bought 10 years ago doesn't buy today. If you buy a pound of beans from mexico for 10 cents last year and the dollar loses 30 percent of its value then buying that same pound of beans at the same price is now 13 cents. Prices aren't rising more than normal. The dollar is sinking faster. great thread, OP star for u dunno how to flag

Yeah with all of the governments superior technology we might as well not even try! What a joke.

Never underestimate the power of insurgency and guerrilla warfare.

Examples: Korean war, Vietnam war, Soviet-Afghan war

Even now, look at Iraq and Afghanistan; those "insurgents" are supposedly fighting vastly superior foes.. but they are still there, and it looks to me like we're losing.

I share your passion for politics. I was even fortunate to have a front row seat at the circus during my years at MSNBC CNN and the news networks in dc. I figured out by hanging around in makeup before the shows I got unfettered though often only a couple mins, to some of the most powerful men in the world. Face to face, man to man, eye to eye, none struck me as sociopaths bent on destroying the country.

No rational explanation is sufficient to explain why 545 men and women (congress, supreme court and potus) would destroy their very source of power and money. Only that small group has the power to have gotten us here. They are by no means fools. They are absolutely aware of every fact you posted.

The only conclusion is they want it exactly how it is. The question is why? I considered all of the most likely rational explanations, power, money, greed etc but those traits have existed since the formation of civilization and do not explain the historic fall in less than a generation. No great power in history has imploded in 15 years.

The answer is metaphysical. This is the end of an age. Time is speeding up. The final act is approaching and the signs are all around you. Why for instance was fukashima not capped with tons of bentonite cement?

I am not a fundamentalist Christian. I am not a fundamentalist anything but recently have become intensely spiritual and introduced to new ways of percieving my environment and new to me concepts such as chakras.

I have no idea if what is truly around the corner is armagedon, but if you find a quiet place to meditate and breathe through your heart chakra, and sense the world through your heart chakra you may come to the very same conclusion and find the answer that brought you to ATS in the first place.

That is everything is exactly how it is supposed to be. You not only agreed to the circumstances that exist on planet earth this moment but you were desparate to get a front row seat with the other 7 billion souls who came from all over the universe to cram themselves onto this planet for what is shaping up to be the most incredible final act in the third dimension.

All my fears have been laid to rest since last Thursday when was what was revealed to me was "Don't worry. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. You will know exactly what to do when the time comes. Keep doing just what you have been doing. You are loved more than you know by the Creator. You have been endowed with incredible power by the Creator. Practice loving ALL the people around you and enjoy the ride. No book on earth can begin to explain the adventure we have been waiting millennia to unfold."

Congratulations brother, you were chosen!

I firmly view corporate influence and the wide spread approval of limitless greed and self-service as the root cause of our collapse. It is so complex and so systemic that we may never be able to hold the proper people accountable for profiting from the destruction of our nation.

I also believe that those who do profit from this systemic corruption will not accept change until blood is shed and elitists are in shackles.

It's too lucrative to exploit a broken system and then run off with the treasure.

Our society openly condones this behavior. The belief that money makes right is pervasive. Our systems of society and governance have been hijacked by the lowest human urges. As a society we are little better than cavemen.

Before we can rise again, we will have to do some serious house cleaning and some serious soul searching as a nation.

Hey Hessling im in total aggreement with you brother this shyt has got to end!

I believe they didnt and you know why becuase i was born Here in america land of the free.

i was born free and i will die free the question now my friends is will we live free!

remember life is what we make it , if this U.S goes down the only ones we can blame is our selves. and i say this because the U.S military didnt win our independence on there own, it was the help they received from regular people like you and me that laid there lives down to help create a better place so that future children can live happily , think of it like chess game we have to protect the king the king is not the president nor the government the king is the unborn children of the future who have yet to experience freedom and everything that goes with it

A sad and true observation OPs

the worst part is, we cannot even have a honest discussion person to person about it without bringing in our favorite talking heads, or start a movement that isn't immediately grabbed by a political party and twisted into culture war verses the root message.

We can blame the government, but thats just shifting the blame.

The next time a politician stands up and says "The american people are smart...great...whatever"...consider dropping your support. keeping the blinders on the collective idiots only serves to further the problem.

This pot is stirred bigtime! This is obviously boomer country.

I am trying to look over the hill at the next world. Whether I live or not. All the while I am doing that I am trying to absorb all the joy that is left in the now. I am trying to perceive myself as a heat pump of joy.

This world is going to run its course and I somehow deep down sense that the power drunk are in for a big surprise.

I mean, we all are, but the energy they have put into their plans (They being TPTB, of course) will not go they way it is expected. All the scheming just won't hit. There is a portion of the equation that is denied and that will be the undoing.

Goes without saying there is much heartbreak for the everyman. The young and oblivious will suffer the most. The more dependent you are on the material aspects of this life, the harder the hit you will take.

My idle moment exercises consists of asking myself what really is important? Is it of this world or it is of the next? If I decide that it is of this world I ask myself at what point do I shed it?

When a crustacean sheds its exoskeleton it is because that shell is outgrown and dead. If it does not molt, it will die. That is the point we are at as humanity on Earth, we are in metamorphosis and that which has not changed and moved on to the new will rot with the old. Rot is eventually good compost for the new.

"My kingdom is not of this world."

"The kingdom of heaven is not for the one that looks back from the plow."

"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven."

"That last shall be first and the first shall be last."

Let these fools have this world, it's dying anyway. They killed it and we can't bring it back. I must confess that I think the elite still could use some fast tracking to their imminent fate, but that's a selfish indulgence on my part.

Move on, the good stuff is just ahead. Be open for change. It's coming fast now. America is skuttled and its past my bedtime and I am tired.

Good Night.
