this is an opposite to the recent thread about 'good' cops doing their jobs and getting praised for it, why praise them? they get paid to do a job they signed up for.. they can leave anytime they like, it isn't the army. it seems very silly for this to happen.

Hey now... every now and again an "Atta Boy" is in order for people of every field.. Not sure why police would be different..

Judging by the recent trend this thread will most likely be deleted btw..

it can be, i simply want to know why people insist on praising people for doing a job they volunteered for. do you praise rubbish collectors, toilet cleaners, firemen? unsavory work to be sure, but nobody forced them to sign up, they know what the job will entail.

it just seems very counter-productive.

There's good and bad in every field and I think a lot of the time we focus on the bad and not the good or tend to group everything in the bad catagories so I don't mind people recognizing a job well done in whatever line of work they do.

well yes, a police officer doing a job he/she is supposed to do is excellent. it just doesn't really need to be said though when that is expected of 'em.

The way I see it.. We pay these man and women with our tax dollar, To break the Very laws WE pay THEM to enforce...

What kind of flawed, joke of a system is this!? Oh wait.. it's called law enforcement..

EDIT TO ADD:

I just have to laugh also when they go on strike, and demand more money..

Its what happens to the person after they are arrested that should not be praised. Catching people for doing crimes and bad actions is good
but treating them like sh*t in jail making them feel like the world is against them and doesn't care if they rejoin society or continue breaking laws is bad

i work in a law firm, under bankruptcy, family and criminal law attorneys... i can say without a doubt there are more crooked cops out there then the 'good' ones... and i've met VERY FEW that i can say were on the good side, most see that they are above the law, and therefore take it into their own hands to decide who's guilty and who isn't... don't get me wrong, there are PLENTY of criminals out there, but for every criminal there is a criminal cop too... little to no praise from this guy

oh and i completely agree with your post techv

i do not advocate hate crimes against the police, even if a few bad apples have soiled it's reputation. i understand the need for law enforcement..or it would be a very chaotic world.

Would we tolerate this many bad doctors? This many bad teachers? This many bad anything?

Right now NYC is investigating some massive ticket-fixing scandal with their cops. Each day that passes they come out saying the problem is even larger than they thought it was the previous day.

Not just speeding tickets or stupid STOP sign rolling tickets but DUI offenses and reckless operation offenses as well.

The way the investigation is looking it would appear that it's all just par for the course for just about every cop in the city. Which means those "good" cops werent blowing any whistles if there were any "good" cops to whistle in the first place.

If we came across a school where all the teachers were fixing grades what would we do?

And remember, teachers arent walking around with a license to kill and a standing order to tackle and beat every student who talks back.

There's a difference in doing your job, showing up putting in the hours and going out of your way to do great things. There are things outside your job description that aren't your responsibility but you know that life will be better if you do it. Those actions deserve praise.

That is a very disturbing development. is cop pay that bad that a lot of em must commit illegal acts to make some extra cash on the side, or are they just greedy?

i think the go above and beyond work ethic is only found in movies, or rarely actually documented.

They get a paycheck, they can't be fired, They get paid six times more an a security guard and they do a substandard job in comparison, they retire at 50 with 90+ percent of their final years salary, they treat non cops like crap just to stroke their pitiful egos.

And you want us to tell them that they are a 'good boy' when you finally find one that doesn't pee on the rug????

Boy are your standards low.
