Russia has detained a group of people believed to behind unleashing viruses on banks and businesses in the UK, then demanding ransom to stop further
attacks.
Two have been charged and six more await indictment. This group is believed to be responsible for the loss estimated in millions of pounds. A total
of 4300 computer related crimes have been committed over the first half of this year prompting Lieutenant-General Boris Miroshnikov, head of the
Interior Ministry�s special technical operations department, to say
�Before, everybody was afraid of the Russian mafia. These days everybody is afraid of Russian computer hackers.�

MOSCOW, July 28 (Itar-Tass) -- A big group of international computer hackers has been detained in Russia, the chief of the ministry�s high
technology crimes department, Yevgeny Yakimovich has told reporters.
According to the official, the detainees had been responsible for mounting viral attacks against servers of banks and bookmaker offices in Britain.
