This thread will be somewhat pithy. I simply want to share a map of the numerous countries that are currently embroiled in one form of violent revolution or another, or happen to be engaged in war with an outside foreign power.

(also see: conflicthistory.com)

Libya:

Egypt:

Iraq:

Israel:

Syria:

Yemen:

Iran:

Afghanistan-Pakistan:

North-South Korea:

Factoring in the financial fallout of 2007 to present and surveying the natural disasters in Haiti, Chile, Japan and elsewhere, helps put in context statements by the World Bank President that the world is "one shock away from a full-blown crisis." [1]

Keep your fingers crossed folks! We're not out of the woods yet ‒ not by a long shot.

Hmm why not mention Greece? Things are pretty tense over there.

I couldn't find any good high-level overviews of world conflicts. So I figured a graphical illustration would help us ATS'ers better grasp a sort of birds-eye view of things. Unfortunately it's not a pretty picture.

Though, now that I think about it, I should really add some details about the fighting along the Ivory Coast.

Even though there have been protests, I haven't heard of any deaths. For the moment the problems are primarily financial. I'm sure given a month or two it'll get more ugly.

Wikipedia has a dated graphic of ongoing military conflicts from back in 2010 ...

en.wikipedia.org...

The dark blue are majors wars with 1000+ deaths per year and the lighter is "other conflicts."

Similar to what Roy Scheider said in JAWS...
We're gonna need a bigger map!
Yep but you seem to have it pretty well covered,...for now anyway.
Folks are losing faith in their leaders at a breakneck pace, we have just begun.

Good thread!

The funny part is if the world was not built on oil (plastic, fuel, lubricant, etc) this would be a non-issue.

Remove debt based economy from the equation and the house of cards will fall, people will come back in to balance and our current level of technological advancement can go to something other than fat pills, ED pills and iGadgets.

Peace
