Awe Inspiring Giant Ant Hill Excavated

Looks like a heart when they pan out.

Well I find it fascinating that this was the work of ants. If only human beings can work together like that we could accomplish anything.

On the other hand, I would have been pi$$ed if after making a city that big, some human came and poured down cement killing millions of ants and destroying my home. So my mind is divided on this video.

and incidently, yes...humans can do this and more...however, we have individuality verses a collective mind. imagine the world population working together, none questioning their role, none deciding to do their own thing verses be a transporter, digger or forager...we could convert the entire earths crust into a freaking emerald city if we worked together.

The bible even states that (tower of babel). alas, we are cursed with individualism and a desire for something more to our existance than just a single task indefinately.

I was thinking when i frist saw this video about how fully sufficient they were with everything they need to survive we should take note of what they did for underground liveing or bunkers ..If we could all work together things here on earth would be alot better ..thanks for your reply

Thanks for showing ATS how special ants are. Its funny when I was younger I saw a group of ants and that moment changed the way I see the world how ADVANCED are we I thought and wondered could man make such a insect. I was amazed at the fact that this insect had all the organs, parts, bits and was so small, since that day I had a new outlook on life we can learn from the very things on this planet YET THEY SPEND BILLIONS LOOKING FOR LIFE IN SPACE WHEN WE HAVE SO MUCH ON OUR OWN PLANET THAT WE WILL NEVER SEE OR EVEN KNOW EXISTED HOW SAD.

They could have done the same thing with ultra sound images and left this struture untoched. AND CEMENT AINT VERY NATURE FRIENDLY.

When conditions are hot and humid after rain and wind is minimal, masses of winged sexually reproducing ants or "flying ants" will leave their parent nest and take flight. The mating flights occur simultaneously in all ant nests of the particular species. The female "queen" ants will fly a long distance, during which they will mate with at least one winged male from another nest. He transfers sperm to the seminal receptacle of the queen and then dies.

Its ants..
They dont serve a purpose beyond annoying humans as their function
They don't make the soil better by poking holes in it
they dont make cute chirping sounds by rubbing their legs together
they live only to bite you and your pets, ruin your garden, and destroy anything you build.

They must die..all the worker ants, all the soldier ants, and that fat queen laying more ants to bite you and eat your food.

Its best to use food pellets, that way the forager ants take it down into the nest and let the entire colony eat it...then the best part, everything dies.
Genocide is fantastic..highly recommend it.

I was amazed also at the video and there are alot more advanced then i ever dreamed they were..I dont know why they went with the cement unless they wanted to dig out the hive but yes they could have used ultra sound images unless they just didnt have that kind of equipment at the time after finding this video i have alot of respect for these tiny creatures...

Walter Tschinkel at Florida State University has been making plaster casts of harvester ant nests to study ant architecture and behavior.

One tropical species of ants has an alarm and evacuation plan for flooding. At the first sign of rain, minor worker ants start racing through the nest’s tunnels, mobilizing the entire nest is less than thirty seconds.

Odor trails then direct everyone down unobstructed tunnels to dry areas in the nest or–if necessary–to those exits that aren’t blocked by water.

Some species have flood plans that even top that. A species of fire ants in the southwest leave their nests and form a large mass around the queen and her brood, basically acting like a living raft that floats until the waters recede, or it gets anchored on grass or bushes.

Even though some die, enough survive–usually including the queen–so that once the waters go down, they can return to the nest or build a new one and go back to business as usual.

Ants
communicate by scent. They have glands located on the different segments of their body. From those glands they can release a chemical called a pheromone. The type of message they wish to convey--danger versus food--will determine which gland they will use to release the pheromone. They can also use pheromones to leave a trail, which will lead others in the colony to a newly discovered food supply thanks for your reply!
