Obama calls on courts to censor TV

The Obama administration is asking the US Supreme Court to reinstate a policy that allowed federal regulators to censor and fine TV broadcasters for showing nudity or airing cure words when children may be watching TV.

“The court of appeals' decisions preclude the commission from effectively implementing statutory restrictions on broadcast indecency that the agency has enforced since its creation in 1934," wrote acting US Solicitor General Neal Katyal.

There is a reason he wants the courts to censor TV and I am quite sure we will learn about the true reasons soon in a thread which will appear on ATS where Obama and/or his people want to censor specific things on TV, per se the news.

I really don’t mind having television shows censored, it doesn’t bother me. But what does bother me is if they try and censor information on television.

dude, you're reaching with this one.. It's obvious that certain broadcasts should be censored esp. when children are watching. I am far from being a fan of Obama and I feel that he along with all the presidents within the past 50 years are just puppets for the power corps. But how exactly is he "anti-family"?

People need to stop playing into this fake 2-party system scam. They're ALL corrupt. They're ALL paid off and funded by corps who dont give a damn about your rights but only care about their profits.

How am I playing into the two-party system? Did I say he was anti-family and the Republicans are the saviors of the family? No because they are all anti-family. It is about destroying them because family remains a unified unit against the encroaching powers of the secular state. That is my point.

Too bad because I was actually interested in the topic. I was curious when King Obama is going to start making them stop using the F word and all that nudity on Dancing with the stars like the OP seems to indicate. Well, enjoy you Obama bashfest instead I guess.

There I removed my opinion from the OP. It was not about Obama bashing because what I posted not in the quoted text was just my opinion.

He will be using this next to try to shut up Trump! Better check the exact wording and small print.

There should be no censorship of TV but programs should be rated...

Here in Australia we probably see more nudity and language than I'd like but we have a program rating system..

Programs rated above MA (mature audiences) can only be shown after 9:30 when good parents should have their kids in bed..

Umm, don't know about anyone else, but my tv (just got one) does have an "off" switch. Of course it is sooo much easier just to have the government decide what is or isn't right for you to watch.

while i do love these two shows, it would probably be a great idea to push things like robot chicken and southpark to air after 2 am on weekdays or something. not like we cant DVR it.

Crap on TV is rated and if it's sketchy they tell you before the show starts, you know all that great tv stuff like Family Gut and American Lad and Democracy Now! I don't care WHAT they censor on broadcast TV but they better leave cable and satellite alone cause people PAY for they're content and it's up to them to keep the kids and grandma and grandpa from seeing stuff that Obama or McCain or Code Pink or Wolfe Blitzer or Lindsay Lohan or Fred Flintstone or Julian Assange or Bender or William Shattner or Quagmire don't want them to see !!!!!! Seriously? Asking "Courts" to censor TV? Like the courts know what the hell is going on anyway! This is not about new censorship, this is about keeping the status quo.

The Supreme Court recently decided the indecency laws were too vague and unconstitutional. So the FCC needs to come up with less vague guidelines for what is considered indecent and not.

"By prohibiting all 'patently offensive' references to sex, sexual organs, and excretion without giving adequate guidance as to what 'patently offensive' means," the appeals court concluded, "the FCC effectively chills speech, because broadcasters have no way of knowing what the FCC will find offensive."

A three-judge panel said the FCC will have to go back to the drawing board if it wants a profanity policy that will survive scrutiny because the current policy is "unconstitutionally vague" and creates a "chilling effect that goes far beyond the fleeting expletives at issue here."

Obama seems to be saying, "lets keep the train rolling the way it has been".

Why SHOULD they be censored?? It is your responsibility as a parent to deal with this and not the government.
These days you can even lock certain channels with the software built into your set top box or tv.

But i guess you rather prefer to live in a nanny state where your government acts like your parents??

I find this pathetic. Here in the USA we can let our children watch numerous people killing each other in any way possible. But let one pair of boobs show on tv and its a sin. And then the "experts" cant seem to figure out why there is so much violence in our society. Call me sick, but i would much rather let kids see 2 people making out than a person butchering 50 people.

Is this to really sensor TV for children or are children used as excuse to censor TRUTH reporting of whats really going on in the world that makes the USA look bad?

I'm all for censored TV for children - but this is going to be censorship that has no boundaries once the Govt gets hold of the legislation and twists it to their own advantage. They want to limit all of us to what information they want us to have.
