'Mercenary leader' pleads guilty (moved from ATSNN)

An alleged 'leader' of a small militia of 70 men has pleaded guilty on plottin to overthrow the goverment in Equatorial Guinea. The former SAS captian, Simon Mann, admitted to the court he tried to procure weapons.



How come a British man wants to overthrow the goverment of E.Guinea? I really dont understand that at all.

If the man was from EG then yes, by all means he could try if he wanted too, he wouldnt have been the first. But he is a british citizen and a former SAS captian...where did he think he was gonna get with it...and what was his goals?

Now if his story hold that he was going to secure the Mines in the DR of Congo then i am sure there is a legitamit way of procuring weapons in that region?

How SA stopped a coup

The men were remnants of South Africa's defunct mercenary company Executive Outcomes.

They were planning to join another former Executives Outcomes operative in Equatorial Guinea in an elaborate plot to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, which was supposed to have taken place next week.

The coup plot has been denied by the British-based company Logo Logistics, which employs the suspected mercenaries. The company claims they were going to provide security for mining operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

But the governments of Equatorial Guinea, South Africa and Zimbabwe have all confirmed the plot.
