God speaks to bush.

Many times on ths site I have seen people blasting President Bush due to the "God told me to...." quotes. Most of those who hear these quotes seem to interpert them as proof of either
1) insanity i.e. schzophrenia
2) conceit
3) religous fanatacism

I can understand why many might misinterpert those statements this way but allow me to offer an alternative explanation in the spirit of Denying Ignorance.

As a christian, (non denominational I read the bible but don't believe in organised worship) I believe that God speaks to us every day. I beleve that our consious is the voice of God. When the teller at the bank mstakenly gives you an extra 50 and you have to decide whether or not to give it back I believe that the voice telling you to do so is the voice of God. The question is does he mean this in the literal sense i.e. he actually hears the voice of god, or in the metaphorical sense as I illustrated above? I for ne believe that he means these quotes in the metaphorical sense. When he said that "God told me to run" did he mean that a great booming voice that only he could hear said "George W. Bush you are to run for the office of President of the United States of America" I dont think so. The fact is the vast majority of American citizens believe in Christ as thier personal savior, myself included. Most of us beleve that he speaks to us and guides us, it doesn't mean we are crazy.

There is this funny little thing in US government called" seperation of church and state" It tries to prevent little things like religious fanantics from holding office and acting like other religion run countries-middle east....

With all do respect, I believe Bush was yankin our balls again.. If he was a true Christian I don't think he would of participated in the skull and bones group or go to one of his hoop la parties or chant sessions at bohemien grove...

I think he is part and parcel of something far less christian then he would like us to believe.

someone who is a christian wouldn't make alot of the decisions he has, like selling out our ecosystem/environment to corporations and going to war which entails killing people on false pretenses.
I also believe that if he was a true christian he would exercise more diplomacy instead of intimidation tactics.

Yeah i heard about this, i remember watching a show that looked at his speechs about him being a servent of God and God will choose America to do his work,blah,blah,etc,etc. What Bush is doing and saying is idolatry, pure idolatry i must say.

Literal 'Bible-believing' 'Christian fundamentalists'.....that really should be sufficient warning you know.

I truly believe that God will choose America to do His work (notice the capitalization of the word, which makes all the difference). When, I do not know, but I believe that this is the right place.

Uhh thats not correct mrmonsoon the seperation of church and state was not enacted to prevent those with religous views from holding office (if that were the case 90% of Americans would be ineligable) It simply ,means that the state may not officialise or endorse any particular religon.

True lies -As to the war on Iraq I dont believe that it violates the christian ethos at all, but then again I dont believe it was an "oil invasion" either. As for environmental policy I cant say but then again I also dont believe that animal life is worth as much as human life, or that protecting the alaskan wilderness is more important that giving people cheap heating oil so they don't freeze to death in the winter.
