The end was used in "Apocalypse Now" in some of the most memorable / visually stunning scenes.

The song is synonymous with the movie....which is one of my favorite movies as well

Jim Morrison improvised the spoken word section in the middle of the song on stage one night - I think in 1966.

This was after he was late to the show at the Whiskey on Sunset and retrieved from his hotel room. He told the band members who picked him up that he had consumed 10,000 micrograms of '___' (the avg dose being around 250-400)

Yeah the Doors. Saw them in concert in 68. Many of us hung on this tune and haven't let go.

Another early Doom Tune was "Children of the Moon" by Alan Parsons Project from 1982
Here are the lyrics.

Pay no attention to the writing on the wall
The words seem empty cause there's nothing there at all
We let the wise men beat the drums too soon
We were just children of the moon

No one to turn to
Nowhere to run to even if we could
Too late to save us but try to understand
The seas were empty there was hunger in the land

We let the blind man lead the way too long
Easy to see where we went wrong
Nothing to live for
Nothing to die for
We're lost in the middle of a hopeless world
Lost in the middle of a hopeless world

Children children of the moon watch the world go by
Children children of the moon are hiding from the sun and the sky
Children children of the moon watch it all go by
Children children of the moon are blinded by the light in their eyes

No one to turn to
Nowhere to run to even if we could
Follow the pilgrim to the temple of the dawn
The altar's empty and the sacrifice is gone
We let the madmen write the golden rules
We were no more than mortal fools

Nothing to live for
Nothing to die for
We're lost in the middel of a hopeless world
Lost in the middle of a hopeless world
Children children of the moon watch the world go by
Children children of the moon hiding from the sky

...effect is maximized with an intake of about 1200µg; more than that just make it last longer!

Regarding the lyric, I'm not sure about anything; I just throw some thoughts at the keyboard:

-Morrison had just ended a relationship with his girlfriend.
-The "blue bus" is probably a reference to the draft for the Vietnam war.
...perhaps in his misery he sees "The end" - as "his only friend" that can relieve him from his heartache...!?!

-and then there is the Oedipus relation...
...I guess in some way he might mean that if one go and fight in a war; there is no way back, -it's the end of life as he know it. And then he compare that following chain of events to that transition to the symbolic transformation of Oedipus... In the light of inheritance - not having any kids and and getting himself killed in a war (physically or mentally); he might as well kill his father and rape his mother... or something like that!

...so really - no occult, no predictions of world events, or anything like that; just the mind of a troubled artist at work!

Lyrics have messages from our higher selves, the connection closest
to god you may see without us knowing it, that is messenger and receiver.

Ride the snake to the lake
The snakwe is long seven miles

Even Jim didnt know exactly what he wrote here.

The snake means our journey as spirits that are on our way back to make the connection back to our higher selves (god)
The snake is long seven miles>, our body and the 7 chakras, corresponding withy the 7 dimenbsions or higher realms of excistence.

The ancient lake> where we are come from and already are living (7 dimensions)we just forgot. When the snake reaches the lake it becomes complete and free, the scales on the snake are all the past lives it has lived (lost in a roman wilderness of pain)all the grief we endured in these lives.

I can go on and on.

This band always had me in tears, because the subjects might be past present or future.
Perhaps the best Metal song ever - German band Halloween: Eagle fly free:

Just wonder sometimes, did kids in the 1980's feel better or safer?
They lived under the mushroom cloud.
Mutually assured destruction was imminent...

Well.....I can't think of a song at the moment, but see my signature
