SEOUL, South Korea - The second wave in the biggest mass defection of North Koreans to South Korea arrived Wednesday on a flight from an unidentified Southeast Asian country, bringing the total in the two-day airlift to nearly 460.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

This growing stream of refugees shows how badly North Koreans want to get away from the constant food shortage and repression suffered in their communist country. Over 5,000 N. Koreans have defected to South Korea since the Korean War. One can only expect the communist government to crack down even harder on defectors.

could this be a way that NK is placing spys and operatives into SK in advance of military action? IF Kim Il dung heap felt that an attack was truly imminent he would likely attack first. Why are these refuges coming across now? 5000 since th 1950s is a tiny number. Why has the floodgate opened? I do not think it is a coincidence.

This is not an ordinary exodus of refugees. South Korea charters a plane to delivery these people to South Korea. It appears that this was preplanned and executed with no oppostion from North Korea. What's up?

Something seems shady about this, Though I have doubts if these are NK spies as they seem to be much smarter than that. Often they use NK people that have been trained to act/speak like people from Japan and pose as tourist

This may seem a little far fetched, but could this be some kind of huge release/exchange of prisoners of some sort? Would N. Korea release 460 prisoners almost all at one time (for something in return, of course)?

We all agree that the circumstances are very strange; something definently does not add up. I am going to dig into this a little more.

Hmm, another possible reason for the state to let these people go is, if theyre gone, they dont cost your regime anything...keep the ones too dumb, devoted, or otherwise willing to stay and dump the ones that are less than thrilled.

What a great population/cost control device. and if you the dictator are controlling the release, then it still looks like your both benevolent and in charge. (rather than un-tidy mass exodos type fleeing)

Once these undesirable types are off your budget, yo can afford to make it seem like things are getting better because you can slip in some of the perviously allocated resources to the people remaining as a bonus, and still keep whatever is left over....

And the best part of this plan is that plenty ofpeople will line up for your program...again making this seem like your a great guy that deserves his giant portrate everywhere.
