New terror-alert system announced; colored warnings scrapped

www.usatoday.com

Red Alert Red Alert... Someone in Washington had a thought!!!! Run for the Hills!!!!

Okay so this is how the new system is supposed to work.

The highest warning under the new system will be called “Imminent Threat Alert,” and will be triggered by “a credible, specific, and impending terrorist threat against the United States,” Homeland’s guide to the National Terrorist Advisory System says.

A second, less-severe warning is called an “Elevated Threat Alert.” It warns “of a credible terrorist threat,” the guide says.

Most likely just as before we'll get these threat alerts will no clue as to what the threat is.... Maybe someone booby-trapped Napolitano's chap-stick???

Finally!! I was color blind to the old system. :p

I guess we weren't scared of the old system anymore, so they needed something scarier that identifies the region about to be attacked.

So as a 2 tiered system, it's either "elevated" or "imminent".

I guess they're saying the USA will never, ever, be under zero threat, or even a little bit of a threat. It'll always be either danger, or more danger.

Permanent state of fear, or more fear......

Only 2 tiers?

"You're screwed" or "You really, really screwed"

Why is there a "No Terror Threat" described?

Yes, it seems that we are always going to be under the terrorist threat
from now on. High Terror, or Low Terror.

I think that Ron White said it best: There should be two preparedness levels. Level 1. Find a helmet. Level 2. Put on the f***ing helmet.

What's the point of even having a terror alert system?
There either is a threat or there isn't a threat.
If there is a threat, then the government must be aware of it.
If they are aware of it, they presumably will do something about it before it happens. If they don't - like 9/11 - they aren't doing their jobs.

Sounds like they have nicked the idea from the UK system :-

Low - an attack is unlikely

Moderate - an attack is possible, but not likely

Substantial - an attack is a strong possibility

Severe - an attack is highly likely

Critical - an attack is expected imminently

All very woolly!!

We are currently at SEVERE

Oh my whatever will I do in the airport without that annoying repetitive warning that we were at orange today. And every blasted day since 9-11.

Their fear formula doesnt work on me. They have annoyed me so much with their constant fear mongering that the only thing I fear about a terrorist attack is that it wont take me out and I will have to listen to more of their stupid sniveling for the rest of my natural life.

If they consider the highest level as "imminent" it almost admits complicity to me...

What would happen if we just dropped all the Alerts and remained prepared?

Terrorism is bad, You are bad, go shopping, stay scared

They "forgot" to add the truly highest level:

"Knock, knock. It's your government calling. Open the door, bend over, and grab your ankles."

I guess they left it off so they can catch us with our pants down.
