Well, seems they need me back already.
Damn,I was just getting use to this.

Because of the flooding, the local casino river boat and adjoining land based properties
got a lot of flood damage.
So,they don't have anyone who can get the elevators and escalators up and running.
What a bunch of fools.
Monday I start and with all the overtime I can stand with a pay increase.
But,they say it's will last about a month,so we will see.

They laid you off then call you back for a job? Tell them you are a contractor now and they'll have to sub contract you......more money!

kdog, so sorry to hear about the layoff
It's rampant these days. I say take a much needed "vacation" after busting your butt for 24 years you've earned it! Give yourself a few weeks to just enjoy the awesomeness of doing nothing and then start the job search. I'm sure with your experience you'll have no trouble finding something else

you paid into it for all te years ou worked...the way i think about it is that its your money to begin with so why not get some of it back?

Actually that's not true at all. You do not pay into unemployment. Your employer pays a tax, that gets collected by the state, and the state pays you the money. Not one cent of the unemployment you receive was actually paid for by you. Your employer paid for all of it. Plus the tax payers with Obama's federal unemployment bonuses, if those are still around. So when you are turning down jobs and living on unemployment, your employer is actually still supporting you, but without you putting in any work.

OP,

Sorry you got laid off, I too was laid off, it's tough times. I'm glad they wanted you back though, hopefully they won't be so stupid and get rid of you again! Good luck!

Yes,it sucks,
but life goes on enjoy it while you can.
Life is a journey.
My 9 year old son hugged me today
because I told him I would be off the rest of the summer.
no more babysitters.

Priceless.

You could not have said it better - Priceless - when I say it sucks, for me, it means temporary upheaval...sounds like the same for you - I took my kids to a new Maidrite in town - I know it from my dad growing up in Iowa - got burgers and malts and then went and bought fireworks (even cones and such are illegal here but you can go county to county and buy em)...my boys are having the time of their life and will know nothing other regarding our temporary financial issues...nor will they ever. Thanks for that and again, priceless and agreed with full heart...happy 4th!

Your emotions are on an elevator.

You are obviously too smart and talented to work for someone.

Start your own business, You really can do it...

Good Luck.

Thank you everyone with your tips and best wishes.
I'm fine.
Into my third week of unemployment
It feels weird now.
But still have money in my pockets, money in the bank and the bills are all paid.
One of the lucky ones.
My wife made my honey do list.I'm half way through it and just watched my dog eat it.
Didn't do a darn thing to stop it either..

Anyways, preparing myself for the long haul of being unemployed.
Things don't look like they are going to get any better soon.

Thanks for that inspiration!
I'm not in a hurry to do anything until the kids go back to school, things get tight
and I get bored.
Then I will come up with something.

I like this quote,

Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are. -- Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

I like this one even better.

I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and it isn't of much value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them. -- Boris Pasternak

I feel this is a good thing and will find my true calling.

Actually I get laid now more then ever since I clean the house with nothing more then an apron.
But my kids really hate it.
