The Libyan government has renewed its call for independent fact-finding experts to come to the country to assess allegations of violence against civilians.

Speaking to Sky News, deputy foreign minister Khalid Kaim said: "We are asking for professional fact-finding missions.

"We asked the British government for this in the first week of the conflict but never received a reply. When we have claim and counter-claim, this is unacceptable."

It comes as the United Nations outlines plans for a humanitarian team to be sent to the besieged city of Misratah.

It also follows the surprise finding of a British campaign group who claimed they had seen 'no evidence' that Colonel Gaddafi's forces had attacked, bombed or killed any civilians in western Libya, despite widespread condemnation of the regime from organisations such as the UN, the African Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court.

The mission, from British Civilians For Peace in Libya, led by Dave Roberts, of the Socialist Labour Party, spent a week touring Tripoli and a number of other towns in the west of Libya.

The 13-person group comprised a number of humanitarian campaigners involved in projects in Ramallah and Gaza, as well as film-makers, bloggers and political activists.

They travelled to Libya last week after forming a few days earlier. It is unclear who funded their visit.

In their interim findings the campaign group claimed they had been able to "corroborate civilian casualties and fatalities due to Nato bombing" but "could find no evidence that three areas of Tripoli cited in UN resolution 1973 had been subjected to government forces bombardment".

Although Mr Roberts acknowledged the group's visit had been facilitated and overseen by minders from the Libyan Government and a Libyan non-governmental organisation (NGO), he claimed they had been able to speak freely to organisations and individuals in many towns in western Libya, although not those which have seen the most significant fighting in recent weeks such as Misratah, or the towns of Yafran, Zintan and Nalut in the Nafusa mountain range.

Among the towns the campaign group visited were Zawiyah, Bin Walid, Tajoura, Fashloom and Suk Jooma.

The group's interim report also criticised the media's coverage of events in Libya, saying: "We are concerned that western media outlets are failing in their duty to report on the conflict truthfully."

Speaking at the news conference in Tripoli Mr Roberts referred to the restrictions that had been put on journalists, saying "one of the reasons you are being locked up is because your independence is being questioned".

However, when Sky's chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay put to the delegates that Sky News had recorded footage in Zawiyah which showed civilians and children being severely injured during government bombardment, it was unclear whether the campaigners had seen the report, or factored in reports like it in their conclusions.

Indeed, they admitted that they had not conducted any research into wider media reporting or into video posted online on social media networks by those who claim they witnessed the onslaughts.

Mr Roberts acknowledged that he and his fellow delegates were "not experts", adding: "We are deficient but we're the only people doing this... there is a need for an independent international fact-finding intervention by a professional, credible and acceptable organisation."

When asked by journalists whether they had sought access to detainees in Libyan prisons, Mr Roberts said they had not but would take the suggestion on board.

Sources in Tripoli who oppose the Gaddafi government have told Sky News they believe several thousand people in the city have been arrested and continue to be detained on suspicion of holding anti-regime views.

In New York, a UN spokesman reiterated the importance of allowing humanitarian missions to access the country.

"The Libyan government said that it would ensure unimpeded access through the Tunisian border into Libya up to Tripoli and said it would ensure safe passage for humanitarian workers to enter areas where the government of Libya is in control," he said.

Wont make any difference.
We saw that with Iraq and the UNSCOM weapons inspectors. They didnt find supposed Weapons of Mass Destruction...

During the lead-up to war in March 2003, Hans Blix had found no stockpiles of WMD and had made significant progress toward resolving open issues of disarmament...

...but Bush Blair Howard and others simply lied through their teeth and warned of nuclear stockpiles, 42 minute missiles to Britain, massive stocks of chemical weapons, lied about the contents of UNSCOM reports, lied about aluminium tubes, lied about it all, and went into Iraq regardless.
The truth wasnt important.

...while the Senate Intelligence Committee found in 2008 that his administration "misrepresented the intelligence and the threat from Iraq".[17] A key CIA informant in Iraq admitted that he lied about his allegations, "then watched in shock as it was used to justify the war".[18]

And neither will it be in Libya.
And like Iraq, they will get away with it because most people STILL believe what governments tell them, after all these years.

Gaddafi supplied Libya with free education, housing & food. Women have more equal rights than the majority of the muslim world. Gaddafi raised Libya from one one the poorest countries in Africa (40 years ago) to one one the most prosperous in Africa. Spent billions on turning desert in profitable farmland. Lent mass about of money to fellow Afican countries to improve their lot. The UN was going to congratulare Libya for their outstand human rights record. Libya had no elite controlled banking system. He also wanted to nationalise oil & return the proceeds to the Libyan people.

The whole war is a scam for Libya's resaources.

Someone has an oil fetish. I appreciated the Saudis' response [transliterated], "The price is going up because the dollar sucks. What gives? You just got twice as much oil from us as you did last month. More oil isn't going to save your arse."

I knew it, we cant just let our governments invade and destroy nations when theres no evidence to justify international response the only way to be sure is to see it and report ourselves like these guys.
Having said that on t.v the problem is that Gaddaffi has problably been bought off some time ago when they held these meetings at Rothschild mansion on Corfu, i dont feel sorry for the leaders as such but we need to fight for the truth and protect these countries for the civillians.

The Elites want control of the banks and corporations in the ME so they can bleed them like they have us - once they're in control of the ME they have control of the world - NWO again - it stinks of it.

They also want footholds for their planned invasion of Iran.

Weapons of mass destruction include those of NUCLEAR, CHEMICAL and BIOLOGICAL!!!

Here's proof Saddam DID have WMD:

youtu.be...

The reason why it was reported that Saddam did'nt have WMD after the 2nd Gulf War is because it was covered up. Countries among those who supplied Saddam with WMD was USA, Germany and France. True, Saddam did not stockpile WMD after 2002, but he most certainly had them in his possession and not all were found and captured by the Americans after they invaded to oust Saddam:

You are doing EXACTLY what they want. But then again, weaklings are going to be weak regardless. Keep watching survival shows for when "tshtf" and all that other bullcrap, keeps you nice and preoccupied while they pillage your brothers, sisters and eventually you. Don't bother informing yourself or others at all.

The point is to get you scared, and you are scared.

This whole Libya situation just smacks of stage management by the US, UK and France, backed up (grudgingly it seems) by other NATO members.
If the aim was to remove Gaddaffi, this could have been achieved swiftly long ago. As it stands, the military suppliers are salivating at all the new hardware they have to supply, the bankers are salivating at having brought another holdout into the central banking community, the oil boys are salivating at the prospect of another recource grab. The poor Libyans are getting shafted but do not realise yet their role as pawns in all of this, and that any new "leader" will be chosen by those above, not by them!

Just did a bit of reading on this.

It turns out that back in March, a report had been produced and was due to be tabled, regarding the human rights situation in Libya.

A number of delegations commended the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya for the
preparation and presentation of its national report, noting the broad consultation
process with stakeholders in the preparation phase. Several delegations also
noted with appreciation the country’s commitment to upholding human rights
on the ground.

Quite a large number of countries have put forward their opinion on the situation, which in summary appears to be that recent efforts are quite good, although more needs to be done. Most countries praised or congratulated Libya for its efforts in one or more areas.

Report

Heres a random extract...
68. Brazil noted the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya’s economic and social progress and
acknowledged the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities, the free health
care and the high enrolment in primary education. Brazil noted the successful
cooperation with international organizations in areas such as migrant rights, judicial
reform and the fight against corruption. Brazil noted that reports of torture were recurrent
and that legislation on racial discrimination was lacking. Brazil made recommendations.

But of course only days later, the propagandists from USA, UK etc... are now tellling you that the Gaddafi is EVIL.
And that the only way forward is war, to to invade with ground troops and remove him from power.

The sad thing is the western countries are supporting this but it won't make it into the western media reports.

The so called rebels are the same so called terrorist the west was fighting in Iraq. They are only terrorist whem it suits the agenda being thrust upon us.
