The Kremlin-backed United Russia party on 14 April endorsed Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for president in 2012 elections, in a blow to incumbent Dmitry Medvedev.
Yuri Shuvalov, vice chief of the party council, said Putin was United Russia’s favorite for the job, according to comments reported by Interfax. Putin was president until 2008, when he stepped down to run as prime minister because he had already served the two consecutive terms allowed by the constitution.

But he continues to poll better than Medvedev and would be allowed to return to the job in 2012, if elected.

Party members have said that Medvedev would only have a shot at a second term if Putin announced that he would sit out the vote. Neither has ruled out running in the race.

To date, both have said they want to reach an agreement between the two of them as to who will run, because they do not want to compete against one another.

Remember this is the guy who slammed the UN resolution allowing military action on Libya as a "medieval call to crusade".

Im not surprised. Its not a wise move to oppose Putin, at this point in time

He already subverted the constitution in 2008 when he delegated the majority of power to the office of the prime minister, and subsequently elected himself to that office.

Leaders like Putin keep the soviet system of opression rolling, and prevent proper relations with the west.

Its obvious Central Asian origin[citation needed] has led some[who?] modern scholars to view the crown as a gift from Uzbeg Khan of the Golden Horde to his brother-in-law, Ivan Kalita of Moscow during the period of the Tatar yoke in Russia[1]. Boris Uspensky, in particular, argues that the Tatar headgear was originally used in coronation ceremonies to signify the Muscovite ruler's subordination to the khan.[2] At some point in the 15th or 16th century the crown was surmounted by a cross.

Putin was presented with an exact (hugely expensive) copy of this crown recently - is he is preparing himself as the next Tzar - or ressurecting himself as the king of the Mongols.

After Russia overcame the period of feudal fragmentation and Ivan III of Moscow and Vladimir asserted his position as successor to the Roman emperors, there arose a legend that the cap had been presented by the Byzantine emperor Constantine IX Monomachus to his grandson Vladimir Monomakh, the founder of the city of Vladimir and patrilineal ancestor of Ivan III. The legend served as one of the grounds for the "Moscow as the Third Rome" political theory. Accordingly, the crown became known as "Monomakh's Cap", the term first recorded in a Russian document from 1518.

Mr Putin is a very intelligent human being, I would love to meet him in person, before he became president or what ever he ran the secret service. Even though we have not heard from him recently, the we...me, and many others know that this is the man who pulls the strings in Russia as it is today. This is the man that can stop world war 3, he is the man that can ultimately say no to the the usa's incursions on soveriegn nations within the middle east and africa. And with this latest BRICA agreement me thinks that the word is out there, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa....These nations are fed up with the USA's Hegimony, as we all are with this Obama thing and his puppet masters and remove them from OUR PLANET. WE THE PEOPLE OWN THIS PLANET NOT THEM1

I thought the Russian's each got a vote now? Or is a 'vote' where ABC&D are all Putin. There's got to be someone else the Russians want as their leader, this guy is basically still their dictator.

Yes, I agree with you about the Dacha thing , but he is the wall which the united states continual hegimoney will run into, because as you and I know Iran is targeted next, It's a very sick sign of a dying empire that has been using a new tesla weapon to get rid of there debt and co-erce their debt holders into submisssion, Russia also has a HAARP device, watch out USA.. yellowstone would be there target.
