My favorite show on TV. This is like Lord of the Frakking Rings.

Just finished watching the latest episode and I have to say I am absolutely in love with this series.

I am not a tv fan. Haven't had cable for many years and I usually have to rely on others to give me a heads up on something worth watching. I have read the books and have been sitting patiently for 6 FREAKIN" YEARS George waiting for Dance with Dragons, about time but I know it will be worth the wait.

When I heard this series was being made by HBO I was sooo happy. they always seem to do a good job with their projects, at least the ones I am familiar with and I haven't been disappointed with this one.

The characters are perfectly cast, the settings are awesome and the story has been pretty true to the books.

Glad to see others out there enjoying this series as much as I am.

SPOILERS.....(if you haven't seen the most recent episode)....

It is kind of a bummer that favorite characters seem to die... I mean, they build up Ned to be the main guy of the show, and he loses his head, then Drogo dies?

Nice ending with dragon girl hatching the eggs though. Again, how the hell did these people ever LOSE a war with anyone (riding dragons, while immune to fire (arguably the ONLY weapon of mass destruction of the time).????

Maybe he explains it in the books...

Still though, loving the series, just can't believe it's going to be SO long for new episodes...

I actually read more then half the first book some years ago, but then stopped due to having other things on my mind and no time for reading. But I bought the books and started reading them when I saw the show on TV and it reminded me of the book I never finished reading all those years ago.

So I just finished the second book "a clash of kings", and it's pretty entertaining and interesting. But I ain't going to watch the show till after I finish the books, because every time they do a movie from a book there is always differences or deviations from the original work.

But all in all! Both the show from what I have seen, and the books from what I have read so far, are pretty good and definitively entertaining.

Khal Drogo had to die so the dragons could be born! Still, so sad... But I loves those dragons!

BTW, I got my copy of Dance With Dragons in the mail the other day! A 6 year long wait, hope its worth it!

Started recording this on my Sky+HD box back when it first aired, been catching up sporadically and man, was I pissed when the season finale screwed up 35 minutes in and skipped scenes.

Having to watch that episode online right now thanks to some sort of technical fault, the rest of the episodes recorded perfectly fine......

*grumble grumble*

Anyway, it looked great from the ads and Sean Bean's always a great actor (funnily enough, grew up watching him in Sharpe thanks to my parents even though I hated that show at the time, might give it another chance). Loved watching and pointing out to myself excitedly British actors I knew ("hey, Jerome Flynn!"......"ha, cool, it's Mark Addy"......."Charles freakin' Dance?!"......."woah, hang on, is that Natalia Tena?")

I looked it up to see if it was Natalia and yep, it was.

Love the show, best on tv. Having never heard of the books before, I have to admit that even the first sight of Joffrey's weird looking face had me despising him from the very first episode and now.......yeah, that hatred is well founded. Great casting and beautiful sets.

This show is literally tv perfection.

having never read the books, the show is 90% for me, but the constant flaunting of nudity is unnecessary in my view. Lord of the Rings did not need it and it turned out to be one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

I feel the nudity is just there to keep up ratings, which is a shame because if I wanted to see two naked girls rub up against each other I could just watch porn. of course its not THAT excessive, but it is a little distracting.

In any case, I cannot stand cersei lannister, but joffrey is the biggest bastard of them all. Little finger and the eunich are just servants to a dictator with no real moral compass. Little finger did what he did because he was pissed at stark's wife, and the eunich just wants "peace" so that entails means bow down to any ruler of the realm.

With Eddard gone, Robb stark and jon snow are my new favorite characters.

If you even just kinda sorta like reading - these books are a *must.*

These are beyond the average fantasy genre as evident in the tv series and such beautiful prose! Unlike the OP, I had not read them until I saw the series on HBO. Speaking of which, HBO has done an amazing job thus far with the screenplays. Much of the dialog is verbatim. Very impressed!

What's also amazing in the books is the turn of events, more peeps who die (!!!), and Martin has an uncanny way of taking characters whom you detested and turning that around without you even noticing. Of course this happens over many, many pages. Simply some of the most gratifying reading I've ever done. So worth your time.

Congrats to Peter Dinklage for his well deserved Golden Globe to sit next to his Emmy for his on spot performance of Tyrion.

Go read!!

It's been nice reading it after seeing the first season, as it's easier to keep the characters straight in my head, with a face to put to the name.

Like many fantasy authors, he uses a TON of characters, and often, it's easy to mix some of them up without a clear picture of each.

I don't mind the nudity, in fact I find it fits the story and I can't imagine it without now.

I mean, the only sex scene that is part of the plot was very covered other than Lena Headey's butt showing just a tiny bit with the angle used from the window's point of view but I can understand why they were clothed due to it being a quick and forbidden tryst between siblings.

Plus the end scene's nudity is also necessary otherwise, well, I'd want fireproof clothes like Danaerys too.

The other sex scenes and the nudity also show how just like our own past, those things weren't such an issue to the other characters as they may be to viewers such as yourself who could be seen as prudish and letting it ruin your enjoyment of a show.

I agree that some shows use those things for ratings but the books that Game Of Thrones were based on as well as the show itself definitely didn't need it for that reason.

Looking forward to season two in April.

I caved, watched the whole of season one in one night, kicked everyone outa the room and went to bed at 6am

Sadly I have a thing for the dwarf....Technically I should have a crush on Jon Snow, but yep, its the dwarf for me all the way.

They actually tone it down from the books. For example, in the city of Qark (sp?) (the mage tower one), the mother of dragons (in the book) adopts their dress (toga style, one boob showing) and feels it demeans her, and they make kind of a deal of it. The show opted out of going this route. It's not gratuitous. It fits what's going on, on screen, and enhances the shock value or reinforces decadence, etc.

Of course, a bit of T&A isn't hurting my other favorite, True Blood, either. So sad this season of GOT is over already.
