Taxpayers are spending billions on spurious aid projects through the EU – including giving dance lessons to Africans who earn less than 70p a day.

Britons pay £1.4 billion towards the EU’s £10 billion aid budget, but much of the money is going to corrupt regimes or projects where no checks are being made that it is properly spent.

Meanwhile, relatively wealthy Turkey, with its developed economy, is the EU’s main recipient of aid, is raking in £500 million a year.

you didn't think the EU was functional, did you?
good find, this is the kind of thing that will eventually lead to disbanding the EUs and UNs of the world. Individual nations have a hard enough time allocating their resources appropriately, why do we think that an international body will be any different? the league of nations failed for this very reason; some states will always think decisions by the body are ill-advised and not participate. If nations just governed themselves, all of this funding and lending and borrowing would happen anyway. The EU just throws one more step in an already cumbersome process.
