odin is friggen amazing
cool odin story, how he came upon the runes

so, odin was always searching for new knowledge, he had already given one of his eyes as a sacrifice at the spring of mimir for the wisdom of ages. anyways he has already defeated the giants, and become king of the gods and as a sacrifice to himself he hangs himself upside down from the world tree Yggdrasil for 9 days and 9 nights peirced by his own spear in the abdomen in order to gain the knowledge of the nine worlds. he hung there for the 9 days and nights and bled out onto the ground below him. when he is just about to die, the ground begins to glow beneath him where his blood had fallen, and the runes began to appear, and at the moment of death he grasped the knowledge of the runes and 9 magic hymns. he used this knowledge to resurrect himself, and gave the runes to mankind to use in ritual or language

there are many versions to the story, but sense we are talking about runes i thought it would be a good story.
and if your interested you can easily find other versions of the story and more information about the great odin

OK

this is what I have.

"As above so below"

As noted earlier, forms a triple call

AO-AO-AO

A - Ansuz = 4
O - Othala = 23

4+2+3 = again 9!

9*3=27 - 2+7 = 9!

9th Rune

Hagalaz meaing hail - In runinc tradition this would have the same meaning as is shown in my earlier post.

Hail 9 the Norns, the gift of (the) 3 is given and received. that which was, that which is, make that which shall be.

I am still working

I have found something but it is in Portuguese!!

I will be back

You're doing excellent work, Mr. Fogg, but if you're connecting the call AO, AO to the Hermetic "As above, so below" -- A stands for Apophis and O for Osiris. You should know that from the Golden Dawn rituals.

not sure if this is in any of the replies (would be suprised if it isnt) but have you done any research into germanic runes? this strikes me as a bindrune which could be used for many reasons, bindrunes can either be ones already made over the centuries or one can make their own for more personal reasons, but im seeing Daeg and Gifu/Gebo personally? www.modernheathen.com...:introduction-to-rune-staves&catid=43:rune-staves-&Itemid=82

Your right it looks like:

Sowilo -- "soe --wee -- low" 'The sun.'
Sowilo represents honor through achieved goals. It can also represent good health. Positive changes occur with Sowilo. IF you use Sowilo in a bind rune you're probably looking for something positive to result out of "work" (not necessarily paying work).

But you can't mirror this one.

It could very simply be the symbol for Straight Edge - the punk purity movement (no caffeine, no drugs, no pre-maritial sex or adultery, no pain killers, no meat eating, no consumption of toxics... all to preserve purity of body and mind, since the body is a temple).

Their most common symbol is a scrawled: XXX

In Pythagorean numerology XXX is the number 666. (or Roman, 30)

However, the rather universal symbol of XXX usually always implies danger (poison or strong drink, for example), but could also even mean pornography, or even meaning love and kisses at the end of a written letter.

As you can see, many different meanings.

Could be some sort of water symbol.

Ok. Now I am intrigued. I gave you the answer that you needed to solve this last night and you seem to have ignored it. No problem. You may take it or leave it as you wish. But now I am intrigued by how this thread can be kept going with answers and guesses by people who don't seem to have the resources to be making them.

You may not like the answer because it has to do with psychedelic drug experiences and, ancestors forbid!, Jesus.

You had an NDE? OK well if you look it up on line you will find that the pattern that you saw is very common within a small set of patterns seen by all cultures that use psychedelic plants as a sacrament. Look it up on Google by searching "grid patterns and psychedelic drugs". Again these patterns are universal and are common to shamanic peoples from Siberia to Cuzco.

The fact is the that the only formal treatment you will find of this symbol in Western Esoteric literature is in Fulcanelli's Mysteries of the Cathedrals. Otherwise you just have all of these people guessing by comparing it to Ogham and Runes and I even saw one person try to relate it to Masonry. None of these fit. If you are looking for the proper shaped hole for this symbolic peg you are going to have to go to Alchemy. Otherwise I think you are just waiting for something to come along that suits what you think it is. Symbols don't work like that. They exist without your ideas about what they are. Otherwise what would be the point? They are not a Rorschach test.

The story in Mysteries of the Cathedrals is long and but I am going to go ahead and post it here so maybe you can get a better appreciation of how far you have to dig if you are really trying to get somewhere with this stuff. And consider yourself lucky that some nice person translated this book out of the French or neither of us would be able to know this without going out and learning another language. Which brings me to another point; occultism in America is very Americo-centric. Like most things here in our great country. But it can make people pretty short-sighted when it comes to understanding secret-stuff which has no homeland.

'Before he was a Christian, Christopher was called Oflerus. He was a sort of giant, dull in spirit. When he reached the age of reason, he began to travel, saying that he wished to serve the greatest king on earth.

He was sent to the court of a powerful king, who was delighted to have such a strong servant. One day the king, hearing a singer utter the name of the devil, made the sign of the cross in terror. "Why do you do that?" Christopher asked at once. "Because I am afraid of the devil," answered the king. "If you are afraid of him, then you are not as powerful as he. So I will serve the devil." And thereupon Offerus departed.

'After going a long way in search of this powerful monarch, he saw a large band of horsemen coming towards him, dressed in red. Their leader, who was black, said to him: "What are you looking for?" "I am looking for the devil in order to serve him." "I am the devil, follow me." So Oflerus enrolled himself among the servants of Satan.

One day, on a long ride, the infernal band saw a cross at the roadside; the devil ordered them to turn about. "Why do you do I that?" asked Oflerus, always eager to learn. "Because I am afraid of the image of Christ." "If you are afraid of the image of Christ, then you are less powerful than he; so I will take service with Christ." Oflerus passed alone before the cross and went on his way.

He met a good hermit and asked him where he could see Christ. "Everywhere," replied the hermit. "I do not understand," said Offerus; but if you are telling the truth, what services can a strong and alert fellow like me do for him?" "He is served by prayer, fasting and watching," replied the hermit. Offerus made a face. "Is there no other way of pleasing him?" he asked. The recluse understood whom he was dealing with and, taking him by the hand, led him to the bank of a raging torrent, which came down from a high mountain and told him: "The poor people who have crossed this water have been drowned; stay here and carry those, who ask, across to the other side on your strong shoulders. If you do that for the love of Christ, he will recognize you as his servant." "I will certainly do it for the love of Christ," replied Offerus.

So he built himself a hut on the river bank and day and night he carried across those travellers, who asked. One night, overcome by tiredness, he was sleeping deeply when he was awakened by a knocking at the door and heard thevoice of a child, who called him three times by name. He got up, took the child on his broad shoulders and stepped into the torrent.

When he reached the middle, he suddenly saw the torrent become violent. The waves swelled and hurled themselves at his sinewy legs to knock him over. He resisted as best he could, but the child's weight was like a heavy burden. Then, for fear of dropping the little traveller, he uprooted a tree in order to lean on it; but the waves went on increasing and the child became heavier and heavier. Oferus, afraid of drowning him, raised his head towards him and said: "Child, why do you make yourself so heavy? I feel as though I were carrying the world." The child replied: "Not only are you carrying the world, but him who made the world. I am Christ, your God and your master. As a reward for your good service, I baptize you in the name of my Father and in my own name and in that of the Holy Ghost; frow now on, your name will be Christopher." From that day on, Christopher went up and down the world to teach the word of Christ.'

Offerus' belt is marked with crisscross lines, like those seen on the surface of the solvent when it has been prepared according to canon law. This is the sign, recognized by all the Philosophers asmarking exteriorly the intrinsic virtue, the perfection and the extreme purity of their mercurial substance.

I have already said several times, and I will repeat again, that the whole work of the art consists in processing this mercury until it receives the abovementioned sign. And this sign has been called by the ancient authors the Seal of Hermes, Seal of the Wise (Sel des Sages, sel, salt, being put instead of Scel, seal, which confuses the mind of seekers), the Mark and the Imprint of the Almighty, his Signature, also the Star of the I Magi, the Pole Star, etc.

This geometric pattern remains and shows I up more clearly when the gold to be dissolved is put into the mercury in order to restore it to its first state, that of young or rejuvenated gold, in other words to infant gold.

So, sorry it has Jesus in it. I know that may send you running for the hills. But really, you were having an NDE. If it had turned into a DE instead then I am thinking that you would have been ready to 'cross the river'. Maybe St. Christopher was there to lend a helping hand.
Happy Easter.

Hi,

I like ATS and i dislike ATS. I shouldnt bite the line you put out but i feel that i need to because ignorance runs amock.

That entire post was simply.....rude. Its very innapropriate to tell someone that they are wrong even if its stated in many paragraphs. Just because one has a source doesnt mean that one has proof.

This is simply an opinion from someone that YOU as a person agree with because for some reason in your head, it made you comfortable. Took the black away from where an answer should be laying. EVERYONE does this.

Its like religion, without it, society would go insane. Simply a comfort thing, for we are human, and comfort is something we need to an extreme.

To end this correctly, im not telling you that you are wrong, im simply saying that you were rude by saying no matter what, that person is wrong.

It isn't always and exclusively about comfort. NDEs (sometimes) teach lessons that take years to unravel. They serve as a catalyst for personal growth and mind expansion. I like your theory, I think it holds weight, BUT as I said in my previous post all of these individual answers all lead to the same thing. The quest for knowledge and truth... to learn "these eternal lessons".

Each person has a different path to follow but ultimately they all meander to the same place...

To all above and all below in this thread:

Most of the non-runic answers seem to be missing one very important point: This is not simply 3 Xs.

It is clearly drawn out in a very specific manner that is in line Rune work. Possible bind rune combinations include:

Gifu - Gifu - Gifu; Ing - Gifu; Sol - Sol; Ing - Ing; and several others and quite possibly means them all.

As already stated it does look like a Sol rune and the drawing of it is simply 2 Sol Runes on their side. Sol forward and reversed on it's side could VERY easily mean as above so below as it would represent dark and light.

For those mocking the runic answer as not fitting it fits better than every other I've read especially as a dualistic symbol utilizing Gifu and Sol.

I don't care if you think I'm wrong, and I honestly don't care if I'm right but please in your response keep in mind HOW the symbol is to be drawn as it is very clear.

Ok. JingleLord and Donatellanator. Two of the funniest names I have seen at ATS. I have de-grumped myself and would like to work together with you while this thread is going because that is what we do at ATS. More brains are better that one. Right? Plus thinking about your screen names made me laugh and realize that only warm funny people would come up with names like that. I am going to borrow Jingle Lord for my own cat at Christmas if you do not mind. I have a hat with bells for him too.

Anyhow. So I have been reading that some think it may be a bind rune. Very interesting especially when compared with the 'binding' around St. Christopher's waist.

And since I am in Biology right now the symbol makes me think of a 'semi-permeable' membrane. Only particles of selected types make it through a semi-permeable membrane.

So maybe if we think outside of the 'symbolism box' we can do some of our own creative work with this.

Standing by.
