Either you are an idiot or a government disinfo agent.

Someone can spend all their income on lottery tickets too. You obviously know nothing about poker which is a game a skill with a luck factor than can let a poor player win in the short term. The real issue here is we live in a so called 'free country' but we are not free to do as we please with our own money among other things.

There will be protests over this oppressive action that the US government has taken.

I think you meant a game OF skill , don't go calling other people idiots then get your basic English wrong in the same post,

I think its more a game of luck with a little bit of skill involved rather than the way you meant to say ( imo )

Luck does not explain why certain Pros continue to go deep in many tournaments year after year after year.
Do I have the skill to do it? Of course not, but that doesn't mean that it is all about luck.
You are completely backwards.

Also, grammar has nothing to do with Poker.
You only need to know a few letters- J, Q, K, & A - and they don't need to form a word.

Good job too.

Too much temptation for financially struggling people to see gambling as a means to get them out of trouble, the reverse of course is normally the case.

The gambling industry has always been run by criminal slugs leeching from the idiotic and weak.

Hope they all go the way of the Dodo.

Land of the free .. Unless you disagree with it.
LOLAMERICA .

Oh and PokerStars is ran by Jews.

Flame away ATSers !

Not for american citizens...

Then the website owners can just move along with the servers. Considering how much money they must be making from this, i doubt it would be hard for them to get citizenship elsewhere.

And if they keep whining, just put a line in the terms of use saying "US citizens are forbidden from entering this site". Nobody ever reads it anyway.

Have you read any of the original articles about this?
Do you know what the actual charges are?
The charges are not about U.S. Citizens playing poker.
The charges are about the 'alleged' methods used by the sites, in order to get their money out of the U.S.
Laundering.

I know, i just wanted to point out that there are legal ways to run an online casino, no matter where the visitors are from. Legal for the casino owner anyway. These people made the mistake by operating it from within the US.

They should have just kept everything out of the US and don't get involved with US banks. I doubt they check every payment to see if you're sending the money to some foreign casino or not anyway.

/Ive played online poker since the moeneymaker boom several years ago.
It was free money back then , mainly due to a lot of Americans(and other natinalities) , waqtching the WSOP and thinjing they should play the same as the pros. Except all that was ever broadcast was the late stages where blinds are huge compared to stacks. TV Stations werent going to show the boring start or middle to a tournament.
This gave ppl the wrong impression and they were playing ridic. loose and aggressive , with no knowledge of hand strength or controlling pots etc.
This was truly free money back then to anyone with even a basic understanding of how mechanics of poker work.

Then the US introduced Unlawful internet gaming act(UIGEA) which was attached to your safe port act after 9/11.
Apparantly terrorists were laundering money through poker websites? This was the excuse being used at the time, and of course the safe port act was important for your natinal security(i think) but to add this secretly really turned my stomach.
from wiki,
The Security and Accountability For Every Port Act of 2006 (or SAFE Port Act, Pub.L. 109-347[1]) was an Act of Congress in the United States covering port security and to which an online gambling measure was added at the last moment.

What this meant, (for me anyways) was that most regular Americans stopped depositing regularly , the easy money dried up.
If an American went bust, it was extremely tough to put more funds online, they simply didnt.
So the games all dried up, and your left only with the decent players who know what they're doing at the tables.
My profit margin decre4ase subsstantially and I was playing twice the hours to make half the profit i was making.

Isnt poker an American past time?

I was brought up under the influence of western media , celebrities , etc and generally the feeling was the americans were the good guyys.
However this is not the case now ive grown up a bit and understand things a bit better.
Americans are having there rights and liberties stripped away from them under the guise of national security, lets get them before they get us, etc or whatever excuse will get the ruling elite what they want.

What really confuse me, and i am going to check it out in a little bit , is , theppa.org...

The PPa was making extremely good progress the last few weeks, and poker players worldwide thought this was going to be the undoing of the UIGEA.

What I believe will happen , is the government will either have state run poker companys, or give the licences to sites that left when the UIGEA was enacted and want to come back into the american market.

I think Full tilt , Pokerstars are getting up the rear now is because they didnt play along nicely with the uigea.

Anyways my 2 cents.

What's the difference between online poker and "investment banking".....?

Absolutely nothing....!

Oh sorry there is a difference; if you gamble online in poker and loose, you loose your money, period. If you gamble on Wall St and loose you get bailed out by the tax payer......

This world really is F*****d up.....

MR

I feel the same way about stock investments. At least at a casino you get free drinks and food and room comps and hey, they're just kind of fun.

Is there any coincidence that this occurred of tax day? It seems our government is strapped for cash and needs someone to shake down for a few billion. I don't understand how they can seize domains now of US origin. Makes me pretty sick.

A typo doesn't make me an idiot.

Regardless of what you think, if poker wasn't a game of skill then there wouldn't be professionals who made a lucrative career of playing poker. Obviously there is a luck factor which is really big in any one game, over a few hundred games luck is not a factor anymore and the better players will come out ahead and less skilled players will be down.

The big losers in this show of power is by the US government is individual liberties which once again has taken a big blow thanks to a government that is run by the big corporations for the big corporations.

The problem is that your Nanny Government told you "don't do that please!", but the gambling sites didn't listen, so now Nanny has to break her foot off in their asses and make them spread the wealth around.... or hand it all over to them.

Yeah I guess the point is that you have to do what Uncle Sam says now, no matter how ridiculous, against the Constitution, etc., or else you're going to get Nazi pigs breaking down your doors.

Don't you know we're already screwed? You don't live in a free country anymore. You live in the Corporate Entity of Amerika now.

I don't like some of the comments on this thread saying it's a good thing, because some people can't control themselves. By this logic we should ban alcohol because some people will drink too much when it's so easily available. We should ban cars because some people will drive too fast and dangerously as cars as so easily available. We should ban all books/music/video that contain violent images, because some weak people may get bad ideas.

NO. It especially annoys me to see this in the USA, the land of the free.

If you gamble too much or drink too much, that's YOUR problem. I can gamble and drink in moderation, You should not be able to interfere in my life to stop me enjoying these things.

I live in the Good Ole UK, where right now we still have the freedom to gamble, but I can see the UK gov trying this too, with Conservatives in power, and the USA setting the precedent of a western nation clamping down on freedom.

GO TO HELL FASCISTS

I bet if they dig down deep enough they will find that organized crime is controlling this industry.

Really, then why do the same people place in the top tournaments as often as they do?
If you dont understand the game, please refrain from commenting on it.
