Is Long Valley Supervolcano Activating? Swarm Just started

earthquake.usgs.gov... i would be keeping an eye on the tar pit this one and yes been there www.discoverlosangeles.com... when it starts boiling run!!!

In May 1980, a strong earthquake swarm that included four Richter magnitude 6 earthquakes struck the southern margin of Long Valley Caldera associated with a 10 inch (25-cm), dome-shaped uplift of the caldera floor.[3][4] These events marked the onset of the latest period of caldera unrest that continues to this day.[3] This ongoing unrest includes recurring earthquake swarms and continued dome-shaped uplift of the central section of the caldera (the resurgent dome) accompanied by changes in thermal springs and gas emissions.

Me and my family have not been able to sleep for about four nitghts, I myself have been having big headaches which is not normal, and two nights ago I had a dream of being in a quake that was noticeably swaying back and forth. I am not far from grass valley penn area.

Yeah, Berkleygirl, I was born and raised in the bay area, felt some pretty good ones. Also in San Joaquin (Tracy, CA) there were some real nice ones. Would you believe that time when the Nimitz freeway came down, I would have been under there? Yeah, that's the day I was heading to Richmond from Fremont and something literally told me to go home NOW! Make a long story short, I routed around the long way, and about 10 minutes after I arrived home (in Sacramento) there was a mild earthquake (enough to slosh water out of my fishtank) I swear that was supposed to be my day, if you know what I mean.

yeah...i have an EQapp on my phone with lists and maps, live time. i've been watching closely for last week. quakes have been building in frequency, intensity and number of places. the ring of fire is on fire. the map will show red dots for any quake over 5.0...the asain/australian side of the ring of fire has red dots everywhere.

for all of you who say that "this is normal...quakes happen everyday"...you can suck this: nujournal.net...

yeah...mom's waking up and boy is she pissed! time to shake all the fleas off...

Roughly 18 minutes between the 3.9 and first 4.0, then 57 minutes before the next 4.0. Still a close time frame. I just wanted to clarify because when I read your post my first thought was there were 3 new quakes within only a FEW minutes apart - like 2 to 4 minutes or something. Just adding this in case anyone else's brain jumps to the shortest time frame imaginable like mine.

What are the chances this is going to be the one?
I see the quakes are about the same depth as the top of the magama ......Is the dome about to rupture?
And what about that vertical run oof magma above the dome top on one side of the caldera.Does that have anychance of blowing molten rock?It is the closest point to the surface, and obviously a weak spot.....

Ok back. OMG, I thought by now they would have let up, but they haven't. still coming in very rapid.

So I see there were some bigger ones in the sequence. And I can see why they are concerned. I am too.

Just so you guys understand, everyone was aware of the increased quakes in Nevada. But not quite like this. This has quickly turned into a very rapid swarm now, as in, they are coming in every few minutes consistently, and they are mixed- most are small, but it is the frequency of them. That is concerning. The higher mags in the 4+ range only make it worse. If you are only watching the USGS reports, you are not getting the full picture.

I seriously hope this is not hydrothermal fracturing of an upper protective layer, and is just some loose water or minor magma movement.

One thing's for darn sure imo: this isn't underground testing. That's a rapid quake swarm with several 4+ quakes now. Even at Yellowstone during the swarms there weren't so many 4+'s occurring so close in time to each other. Umm, yeah. My eyes are glued.

where else should i look trueamerican? my EQ app is pretty good. list updates like every 5 minutes. what would you suggest? links?

i've been watching the EQs for about a month now but only keeping up with them...not actually really trying to understand them. just seeing all the dots makes it easy to connect them!!! the pot just started boiling...
