Umm, so an object that is about 2.5 million miles from earth, or about 360 or so earth's away, whizzed by and it was the "strength" of 15 atomic bombs (Are those all the same?) Now inevitably someone will say, "In astronomical terms that is very close!'

Yeah, yeah. OK. When one zooms by that is a couple of diameters from the earth, instead of 360, wake me.

These close encounters with doomsday level asteroids happen all the time, literally like hundreds of times per year, all the time. What part of your OP wasn't exaggerated.
