Your college degrees do not matter any more, jobs are sent over seas for pennies/ruples/yen...
Massive unemployment, ileagle aliens....greedy bankers and politicians.....and the poor economy.. (do not belive the recovery stories)... Its time to look and see how do 3rd world poor people/families make it work?

1) they share living quarters/ care of children
2) the learn a TRADE something to do by manual labor... sewing/cooking/cleaning/making tools/ repair bycycles/animal care/auto care/soaps/candles- Do not depend on technoligy... it was a TRAP to teach people to not have skills when they need them most....!!!!
3) learn to do with out luxurys or make your own
4) cut back/ reduce/ visit your local dump- recycle center often.
5) FAMILY is important... America is too divided into "my way of life" learn to adapt or lose out!- Get back in sync with your FAMILY
6) those that can (in some climates) grow gardens
7) do NOT depend on our government to help in a crisis... get prepared for your life to change
8)****** if you are very rich, a banker, drug lord, or crooked politician... well, what goes around comes around.... all the wealth in the word will not prepare you for karma/judgment... ONE DAY you will be US!!!!!*****

I supposed I was going to see the usual whining when I saw the topic, and was prepared to post "And yet you have so much in your country, why not find a solution how to distrubute it?". But you actually had some suggestions, and I agree with most of them. Just wanted to add, since you wrote family in capital letters, which give me connotations of a very narrow definition: you can have a family/tribe that is not blood related. Real friends are such a treasure.I think right wing/christian americans are a bit limiting there. Let's come together as humans and I think we can solve almost anything!

EDIT: Just wanted to add:I think a lot of the things on your list is actually not a step down but a step up, for example sharing housing could be a chance to have more regular and meaningful relationships, if done with the right attitude. You get company, you can help each other out with cooking, cleaning, etc. I have looked extensively at the happiness research going on around the world at different universities, and I think that the biggest problem for mankind is that so many people are loneley physically/mentally/spirutally. They sit in their nice houses and can't think of anything else than buying new stuff to make them happier. Which apperantly does not work...

Well a 3rd world country refers to a country that did not affiliate itself with either the USA or the USSR during the cold war.

And can I ask if you've ever been to a 3rd world country? Even with all of these circumstances, we are far above and beyond a 3rd world country. We have it good by most accounts. We are recovering from/still in a major recession. This is how economy works. If you think for a second that we are on some downward spiral we cannot recover from, then you have no faith in the human race, its ingenuity or your fellow patriots!

When you no longer have plumbing, can't drink your water and have to defecate in a hole shared by your town... Then we'll talk 3rd world.

posted on Apr, 13 2011 @ 06:27 AM
many of those suggestions would be good suggestions, even if we weren't on a downward spiral...
matter of fact, us losing many of them is part of the reason we are on that downward sp iral....

we need our extended families back, or at least a tight circle of friends who can fill that gap....
in times past, it was grandma or aunts and uncles that provided child care if both mom and dad had to work, or if there was sickness, we are stretched across the nation, and we have this very, very expensive substitute called the day care center...
the care isn't any better, but well, for the amount you are paying, you kid should have about the same amount of care as a danged prince or princess!!!

by the way, I think we are gonna end up being the first 4th world country, or redefining their world country...
at least the third world countries haven't polluted their land to the point where it's killing the people and screwing with their dna, they still have tight family bonds, they still know how to grow food, hunt meat, make things that they can use or trade.....they can still live on pennies a day somehow....

we, well, how much does it cost us just to drive from the burbs into he city to get to our jobs??
maybe the 4th world nations will be defined as the utterly stupid ones, I don't know...
we are gonna be lost if we can't exploit the rest of the world for our needs!!
we certainly ain't got what it takes to fill them ourselves.

So true!
But as a person who have travelled to/lived in third world countries, I must say (and this is a bit of a cliché, I know, but still): they have so many other things, like a great sense of community, dance, spirituality and laughter, that I think "our" countries are missing out on a lot. But these things can not be measured in money.
I still love a sewage system that works though!

I agree, the American Culture ( as well as most modern/economy driven cultures) are missing some amazing aspects that are found in many of the so called "third-world" countries. The sense of community is astounding and to be quite honest.. I think the people are happier..

It's interesting to note that ancient civilizations had many social and communal qualities that civilization seems to lack now. Our instinctual needs and "creature habits" seem to be more prevalent where there aren't cell phones and facebook to cloud our minds 24/7.

I've been through quite a few recessions in my lifetime, and well, got to tell ya, we seem to lose a little more in each downturn....and it's never regained when the economy picks up....
that, my friend is a downward spiral!!!
and, what was so bad with the last one was that we proved to the entire world, with our bogus cdo's, huge bailouts and such, just how big of a scam our "great economy" is!!
ya know, it's kind of hard to trust the integrity of the dollar when the treasury is printing up billions of it to bail out a bunch of fraudulent bankers from the mess they created for themselves!!!
it's hard to trust in the integrity of the treasury bond when half of american is claiming that they are just worthless IOU's in an attempt to get out fullfilling the promises made to an aging population!!

could we get out of this, oh ya, but will we??

doubt it, there's only one group of people that have the ability of pulling us out, and they are the ones screaming "NO!! Don't tax us!!!" and well, taking their cash to the wall street casino and creating the next bubble to ride to the top!!! and when that bubble bursts, well, they'll be back in washington, and how much paper will the treasury print then, to bail them out???

there is a world outside of wall street, and they need to take more care ensuring that world works, and less care propping up wall street!

To you I must say this.. A bit of knowledge I've gained from Steven Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People".

There is something called a circle of concern and something called a circle of influence. Your post, with its subject matter and it being on this forum, firmly puts you in the circle of concern. See, you have an idea and an attitude towards this subject, and you worry about this subject yet you are not influencing it at all. Talking about it to me, and having the attitude that we cannot do anything shows that you aren't in the circle of influence. Now, speak in front of a rally, send out mass e-mails, go door to door, INFLUENCE. Back your statements up and make a fuss. INFLUENCE. Having a concern is just that.. Having a concern. Nothing can be done about that concern until you influence it. If you don't try to influence it then why have any concern? It's no sweat of your back.

Nothing will ever get done if you are in the circle of concern. Expand your circle of influence and shrink your circle of concern.

Off topic.. But these threads are all ill-concern. Nothing ever gets done, and the topic matter in this thread is slightly exaggerated.

don't see how you can say that the people voicing their concern on the internet hasn't had any effect....
the more people who come across the words, well, they read it, see the logic and adapt to it...
so you want us to go door to door?? just what are we to do after we knock on the door, talk??
try to convince another to see what we see???
don't see much difference....
right now, I got a feeling that the ptb see the internet as one of their greater threats, simply because all these people are one the web, voicing their concerns, and trying to figure a way to change the outcome!!!

It would be pointless to even consider mumbling the words 'its not that bad'..BUT...If you have been to one of these other countries well...let me just say..its makes you very grateful to re-enter the USA.Very humbling...

I was born in Australia and lived in US and Canada for quite a number of years.
Our family packed up and got OUT of the US immediately after Obama got sworn in - just in time IMHO - we saw it was going to #.

Both my husband and I have traveled extensively throughout Asia/Pacific/Europe/Americas (no interest in Africa). Our personal picks for best place to live? India, Phillipines, Costa Rica

Forget all the crap the westernized countries keep pushing in your face.... it's all material - it fades away. Better to live in a place where family (bloodline/community or otherwise) is strong and people are truly happy even in the face of hardest adversities. Thats the REAL wealth.

My parents and I came from the "third world". No, Americas problems are a result of profligacy. Profligacy at the government level, and profligacy in the private sector.

What we are suffering now is a direct effect of Americans thinking that nothing wrong could ever happen here. Its the Normalcy bias.

America does not resemble a third world country. But it's government does resemble a banana republic.

The fact lies more in the matter of you saying you doubt it will get better.. You voice your concern, great.. But if you do nothing aside from blab on the intarwebz you won't influence the situation. People can read your posts on ATS, but do you really think reading something on the internet is as gripping, holding, and influential as someone coming to your door and personally speaking with you? Or giving a speech at a rally, or protest? Or spending time and the oh so valuable dollar to spread the message and instead of just complaining.. OFFER SOLUTIONS. INFLUENCE. The internet is a GREAT tool.. But only if it is used correctly. Talk is talk and always has been. We can complain and talk about it on the internet all day and people can be aware but it does nothing but make the circle of concern larger. We need to influence the situation. If you are tired of it and feel like we are in trouble.. DO SOMETHING. INFLUENCE the situation. Expand your circle of influence within the circle of concern, there are no excuses. It is a fact. If you do nothing about it, you have no reason to be concerned or upset. Just like an election or vote.. There are going to be people who complain about the outcome who didn't vote.

Congratulations, you swallowed the fear flavored koolaid.
Do you really think after the revolution, civil war, WWI,WWII, The Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, 911, Katrina, BP, and probably about 8 recessions since then, that this is gonna take us out?
Yes, the Great Recession sucks.
BUT, my commute is just as crowded and hasn't slowed up any. We are doing fine, and nowhere near a third world country.

well, gee, I started out writing letters to gov't, just to find my words aired on tv, twisted, and used to do the exact opposite of what my intentions, well, lessoned learned!!!
so, well, then I tried talking to my friends...they just looked at me like I was nuts...and can't blame them, I was saying much of what is being said now, way back in the 80's, no one was buying it....
now, well, what can I say, I'm 50 years old, not in good health, I am planning on scouring the mountains this summer, even though walking is difficult for me, looking for one of those caves that everyone tells me are all over the place, or a good place to build myself a shelter....
I've spent two decades writing, talking and posting, and it wasn't till the crap hit the fan and the people finally are finding themselves in a jam that hey, my words are even halfway understandable....
some of my friends, who got the whole story first hand, from me in the 80's, well, they're into the new age movement, and they think that if they just believe hard enough, all will be fine, some are even watching for the UFO to come and take them away!!!

well, there isn't many around who believe what I do, that an affront on the littlest of us is also and affront on me! that we are all in this together, and that unless we start taking some concern about what is happening to the neighbor down the street, well, things are not changing!! I still don't see that, so well, I keep an eye from the mountain cave or grass hut for when that comes, and try again maybe. I seem to run a decade or two ahead of everyone else, so well.....maybe if I get up there now and get established, I will be in a position to help others when they find that they too, just can't live in the society that we've created for ourselves.

The USA could pull itself out this mess tomorrow if they returned to manufacturing and produce them lovly silver eagles i keep buying up just like the FED keep printing money.

Best coins by far but it seems money can grow on trees and silver does not.

Like the romans the USA is fighting all over the place but lossing the war at home and unless americans learn to stand up for themselves instead buying into the BS that they are the best race that ever lived then they are going to go the same was as the romans and this is what we are seeing now.

Sitting back and doing nothing is not an option.

and we've haven't gone through much of what I think will occur....
a flood takes out a few towns here and there, a few tornadoes rip through a city here and there, an earthquake happens in a populated area....
has new orleans been rebuild yet??
a few million here, a billion there, and well, it's not gonna be possible to keep up with it all......
cities will lay in ruins.....

I know that the fine gov't says all these chemicals are safe, but well, the male fishies are somehow laying eggs, and our male alligators don't have enough of a ding dong to have any fun!! add to that the scanners that they say are perfectly safe to put everywhere, well, there's a possibility that our dna is being screwed!! and well, genetic mutations just might be in the future...and not all these mutations are gonna be of the superhuman, great to have type....

we have peddled our not so AAA cdo's all over the world, and well, caused the collaspe of the world economy, you don't think that the rest of the world is a little irked with us?? they want us out of the reserve currency business. and well, considering how we've acted the last few decades, can't say I blame them!! think maybe some of them might see war as an option if we bulk at the idea? have any idea just how much worse we would be without that standing?? so, well, let's see, a good war, which well, germany lost their war didn't they?? along with the charges of war crimes (haven't heard any of late???), tribunals and such is possibly in our foreseeable future.
will the US regain it's position in the world?? Ya, I think so, but it won't be in my lifetime....
or yours....
third world I said, I think we will be in a status of our own.....
