What about girls who are tomboys....dressing like boy, not into girly stuff etc....
That's fine but a boy with a little pink polish isn't?
Double standard.
What if it was an ad of a dad playing football with his daughter?

Oh look, biased purveyors of how things "should be" come forth and decide FOR US what should be worn and what shouldn't, what we should do and what we shouldn't.

How about you stop pushing YOUR agendas and beliefs down other peoples throats? Just because you have an inherent issue or insecurity with change and people being free to do as they wish, it doesn't mean we should feel pressured to change. If the boys like pink, or nail polish or whatever, let them enjoy it. I missed the memo where it was decided that a few on ATS can pass judgment on what is "emasculating" or causing the "feminizing" of males, much less what is generally "acceptable".

Chances are you look stupid, repulsive, or offending to someone else, and they probably have the good decency to put their judgments away because passing a verdict on you is not their place. Hell, they could be close friends who look past what you do that is offensive and let you live how you want.

But yeah, this kid is ruined or a sissy-boy because he had pink nailpolish on....

Whatever happened to letting people be an individual and express themselves? Maybe judging them on their personal merits and flaws rather than lumping them into some biased, ignorant, and judgmental categories for mass consumption?

A few years ago, when my oldest boy was 6 years old, he wanted an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas.
I spoke to a few family members who said they would not buy it for him because it was pink (I think they are blue/greyish now?). Most are from the older generation, and definitely live in a world of stereotypes.
I didn't buy it because I didn't want to pay $10 per refill, when I can teach him how to bake REAL cookies and cakes for a lot cheaper, which I did. He is now 12, and can make a mean batch of Chocolate Chippers!
Funny now because his fave colour is pink...

Added note: I believe the "tarting" up of our girls is over the top. We have 8-9 year olds wearing more makeup than I do, the stores sell thongs for girls, and pants that have "sexy" written on the seat. We have become a "sex-sells" kind of society, and it's not a good thing, in my opinion.

People were talking about The Powers That Be!!!! Period!

If you think for one second that this add does not have some subliminal messages,,,Your On The Wrong Site.I dont trust anything they do.ANYTHING.They poison our air,our food, our water and so forth and so on.But an add by J Crew, with a mother holding her (getting a little too old to be doing this) sons feet with freshly painted pink toes is simply (harmless) marketing
My personal opinion is that "yes",there seems to be some sort of transgender/homosexual agenda afoot,as there are alot more gay youth.Perhaps its a tactic of population control
But then again,,,its a sign of the times. And they are surely the best of times, right??

I'm not "stuck" on anything as you put it. Rather, I'm trying to figure out what the problem is because as you can tell from 95% of the replies most of us don't see an issue with what you do. So clarification would help. So, was it because it was nail polish or because it was PINK nail polish? Would've it have made a difference it the kid was having them painted blue or green?

Besides, I remember in Elementary school when kids (boys and girls) would colour in their nails with Crayola markers and the such.

If there's any subliminal agenda here it is the heterosexual Oedipus complex between straight sons and their mothers.

Any visit to a gay erotica or porn site quickly shows that the gay ideal - and many gay men - are a lot more sporty, butch, and almost hyper-masculine compared to the average heterosexual. Sure we have carnivals and political drag, but that's not what we like sexually, and most real transvestites are straight fetishists.
Gay means being attracted to the same sex. What's the point of female make-up in that (although some heteros who like to play the "other field" occasionally may feel less queer if the guy wears a frock)? Mostly it is a worship of masculinity.
Gay lifestyle? Not a chance.

I guess if the nail-polish was black they'd all be satanists!

I'm a firm believer that the idiots in the "gay agenda" movement (or whatever you wanna call it) do more damage to gay/straight interaction

Sure felonius, special privileges and some of the skewed focus associated with the alleged "gay agenda" are counter-productive, if not destructive. But you and FOX are not helping much either. I agree with the poster about circumcision being much more emasculating.

It is offensive to associate either color preference or predilection to wearing any or particular adornments with the predilection towards transgenderism. It's a simple and clear non-sequitur.

The line that struck me in the article as closest to unfettered truth was by the shrink,

This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity,

If any of us actually support freedom, we can see here that gender identity comes with trappings. Who the heck wants to be trapped? If this youngster doesn't feel trapped now, I expect he will grow to be the man that his vision and esteem support. And I wonder just what it is that "traps" the propagandists at FOX, and perhaps you felonius, into this reactionary judgment nanny-ism.

What's wrong with this? Pink is a shade of red, the color of blood. They're not emasculating this kid, they're prepping him for battle.

Amen brother!

My wife is an ardent feminist. She believes that women carry their "power" by just being strong women and dedicated mothers and wives. She thinks Gloria Steinham should be publicly flogged
.

She will not walk behind any man....unless she has her foot stuck in his posterior
(her words!)

Thats why I married her!
Ahh the mix of Scots and German blood!

My wife has no use for an "inferior" male. If he isnt her equal, he can just keep steppin'! She does understand that women have there place. She stays in it!

wait for it?

Any you libtards pissed yet?

A womans place is beside her husband as his "separate but equal". We share house duties. Its not right for her to come home from work and do it all. Shes tired as well! I cook (I make a killer rouladen!) while she runs some clothes and the kid does dishes or homework.

Thats the way it should be.

All of the womens lib crap (in her opinion) did more destruction for our young girls than anything. Look at the ads in mags? Eating disorders much? How about women being forced into the work place? How women are looked down upon in corporate america when they take off to be a MOTHER!

"Oh, what about your career? You worked so hard for your degree?"

Being a mother trumps that!

Really?

Men are supposed be men, girls are supposed to be girls. Every heard of archetypes? Theres a reason for things.

Guys go kill it, gals take it and grill it. Its a team sport.

You'd probably think that everyone deserves a trophy as well?

I don't have a problem with the kid liking the colour pink, he probably isn't aware of the social barriers which label pink as gay. To him, it's just a bright colour that he likes. However painting a boys nails is a strange move by the mother, unless he has sisters i'm surprised as to why the kid would want to get there nails painted.

Anyway, J.Crew generally pushes manly classic clothing, so i wouldn't be that worried about this.

While the color IS symbolic (if it was in her subconscious or otherwise) guys DONT paint their nails!

Unless some dude is a weirded out metal head, I doubt you'll ever see a miner, construction worker, or normal man do it.

Once again, symbols mean things!

So what you (and some others) are promoting is a goal of "gender neutral/hemophroditic" society?

Really?

I've found it rather interesting that many have keyed in on the color of the polish. while symbolic, the act of putting it on (especially by the mother) is more symbolic.

"Here honey, this will make you pretty."

captain subtext: "This will make you submissive and easier to control".

My response at three (and my many nephews) would be "NO! Girls are pretty! Not boys!"
