This happened last month at a water treatment centre in Rock Island, Ill. I did a search and didn't find anything on here.

A recent chemical spill at a water treatment facility in Rock Island, Ill., required the assistance of an emergency relief crew decked in the very same type of hazmat suits being worn by workers at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant in Japan. Except instead of radiation, the leaked chemical at the water plant was actually hydrofluorosilicic acid, a chemical fluoride component commonly added to drinking supplies for the stated purpose of preventing cavities. This fluoride chemical is so hazardous that it actually began to burn through parking lot cement in Rock Island before emergency crews arrived on the scene.

So, it's okay to add to the drinking water then?

Just what damage is this chemical doing to people all around the world? There should be a full and honest study into the dangers of adding Flouride to water. I don't buy into the 'prevents cavity's' therefore it's a good thing. What are the long term dangers and health risks?

There is a video of the the incident within the link:

Actually, it was hydrofluorosilicic acid that was spilled, not flouride. Big difference.

Just sayin'

True, it is. However, the chemical reactions involved in the process neutralizes it's acidity. Fluoride in it's final state will not burn a hole in concrete. Much like I wouldn't swim in a pool filled with hydrochloric acid; however, I would swim in a chlorinated pool.

So, again, I stand by my statement that there is a big difference between hydrofluorosilicic acid and fluoride.

Our city council just voted to keep adding fluoride to the water. I'm not happy , and the best argument I know of is if someone wants to use fluoride , fine , you get plenty in fluoride toothpaste. It does not need to be our water.

Question... Is hydrofluorosilicic acid a fluoride? There are several kinds, you know... Or does it combine with water to create a fluoride? Or is it just a toxic acid waste product that they sell to municipalities under fraudulent claims?

If I was to guess, probably the last.
