Theres a lot at stake here-if Yanukovytch agrees to join the Customs Union,it forfeits benefits from Euro trade.
Putin has already offered an 8 billion Russian energy sweetner (and lets remember Tymoshenko is facing criminal investigation for doing a deal with Putin for discount gas in 2009)

This is much more about Trade or Co-operation though,at the heart is Putins wish to return its Motherland to the Moscow fold at any cost.

Meanwhile it seems no coincedence on the timings of both events.

The mighty Ukraine is too valuable for Russia to be left alone. Russians displayed imperialist mentality for many centuries, that's why I was surprised that the USSR fell apart and every republic seemingly gained independence.

Although seeing recently an interview with Gorbachev that was taken after the fall of USSR, he claimed that a lot of it was by design, and that communism was going to take on a different look and work much less overtly. He mentioned a big movement into environmentalism and using it to reign people under.

When Putin visits to twist arms in his plan to reconstitute the former Soviet Union, leaders and officials would be wise to comply... Offending this man is dangerous, surrender to his will, let him play with your children, give him what he wants... Or else, you may find Polonium 210 in your next meal, or drink.
