I too questioned the 'aftershock' description, as I always thought aftershocks were small. However, the definition below answers this....

'An aftershock is a smaller earthquake that occurs after a previous large earthquake, in the same area of the main shock. If an aftershock is larger than the main shock, the aftershock is redesignated as the main shock and the original main shock is redesignated as a foreshock. Aftershocks are formed as the crust around the displaced fault plane adjusts to the effects of the main shock'.

Please dont bring CME's into this possible new tragedy in Japan.
nobody doubts CME's happening. That happens all the time

I wonder what will happen to the nuclear plants this time. Because radioactive leaks are more dangerous than CME. This is the REAL danger.

Please don't bring CME into this? What? Next time there's two cars that crash into each other you'll tell me to not bring cars into the discussion?

CME doesn't make it worst or better. It's just a factor of the equation. I don't get your post at all.

Or are you trying to tell me that 99.8% of the mass of the solar system (the sun) has no effect on earth? Please.

I dont get your post - you are blaming CMEs for EQs. I never seen anyone other than here doing that - scientists also says it has nothing to do with it.

Sometimes its best to know who to trust.. Just saying..

I'm not saying earthquakes are CREATED by CMEs, but they can be triggered by CMEs And it's now 100% of the time CMEs hit, it's more like 60-75% of the time.

And we don't need scientists to tell us everything. We can think by ourselves with empirical evidence, thank you very much.

Good Morning - Yawnnnnn, Just grabbed my coffee turned on the PC and was thinking as it was booting up, how before I went to bed last night I was suprised to see no larger quake and thought, I thought that CMA was suppose to hit. Well then here we have it. I truly believe CMA's help to trigger larger quakes as I have been wathching this now for some time. I appears that they have the most effect in an unstable area - IMHO

Those poor folks in Japan I am wishing them the best. Unfortunately, I am thinking another larger quake is yet to hit. --- and a whole lot of other things that I just won't post here.

We've seen it time and time again how CME are triggering earthquakes. I bet there's a thread on it on ATS.

Or at least somewhere on the internet, it exists.

OK, I've read that thread along with yours..
Some theories are stating it's not so much the highs and lows in solar activity but more the rapid change..
What do you think of that theory?

Another one just hit

Well that seems a bit shaky if you ask me.

For example, the big X28 flare that came out of nowhere in 2003 would surely be considered a rapid change surely and no significant earthquake event occurred.

But of course this is only one example.

Fair enough..
Personally I think, if anything, something like solar activity may bring on an earthquake that is going to happen soon anyway..
I see no way that it would actually create an earthquake..
Hope that makes sense..
