People are traveling for different things, maybe their beloved relative just died, or had an accident and in hospital in a different State. Well if airports are under federal control, then you also cannot use the logic that the airlines are private and have a right to demand these searches, as one person somewhere on this thread asserted. Interestingly enough, the Sanford airport had decided that it wanted to hire private security people instead of TSA, and refusing the scanners too maybe. I don't know who makes these decisions but clearly some people do not agree with you that the bureaucrats have a right to assault us like this.

Both prohibit bombs or other dangerous material on planes without a permit. The point is, they are both liable at some level if a bomb gets on the plane and causes people harm. They both have an interest in preventing an attack. Not sure who's paying who for security but doesn't seem relevant. Put yourself in a position where you are responsible for security. How would you handle the possibility of a kid carrying a concealed explosive device?
