I believe the worst thing is no one knows exactly when the big one will hit anywhere until it happens......to move because something could happen at some point isn't really good enough even for myself.

Let's face it if you don't want to even take a chance then move but when you move you don't know if something happens at that new location.

All you can do is be prepared and go with your gut instincts, have some kind of a plan.

As I see it..... if it is your time to pass, it doesn't matter what you do it will get you! Use your instincts and always watch the animals and insects if they move in mass for no reason or have extremely odd behavior watch where they go and what they do.

Hello everyone---I'm the OP...

I would like to first say I'm surprised that so many people are taking this as a prediction, and have found ATS as a useful tool to bash anyone' idea's or ideals. This web site used to be about presenting an "idea" and possibly turning into a discussion where we all post information regarding the subject in a professional and scientific manner. That is now gone from ATS, people are calling other people names.

NOW-there is nothing wrong with criticism but when you walk into anther person's conversation and bash everyone for everything it instantly say's a lot about your character, and you probably handle your whole life in this manner, and it has become your demeanor as well. I sense a lot of anger and hostility like a gang fighting over territory, and the people who use A.T.S. respectively are losing the battle.

My original post was to raise awareness, I didn't give a 2012 doomsday prediction and I want to write quality "IDEAS" on my favorite and most informative web site: A.T.S. I hope not for panic, I guess I am using my Boy Scout instinct and hoping that everyone prepares for any possible earthquake that may hit.

I urge people to move out because most "specialists"-clearly not myself as I am a web designer-will agree that California is a probable.....again probable say it with me probable candidate for a very large earthquakes that MAY do some damage or MAY cause bodily harm.

Why would you raise a family somewhere like at the tip of a volcano- move 20 miles away, and feel a little safe and secure. Even though your manly attitude seems stronger than the force of nature, and your love for you family is so powerful, I would regret staying if the (more than likely) inevitable one hit and those I love weren't prepared with emergency supplies, and knowledge.

If people up and moved back (just a little) off the main plate, we may be able to say numerous lives once this scientifically predicted earthquake-not mine-happens.

I'm at a loss for words actually, I had more to say but, I think I'm done with A.T.S. I can't believe the vulgarity anymore-this thread caused 100 people to not converse but to hate, and it induced hate, and threats. If we were all face to face we'd fight. Why? Who created this? Probably the first guy who responded to this thread with his "ever so intelligibly thought insight".
This site was once comparable to Unexplained Mysteries and Godlikeproductions, but not anymore it's turning into the Myspace of Conspiracy Sites

show the earthquake odds thing to the 100,000 peoples families who are missing in japan haha. funny how your little frame work of numbers and calculations mean nothing to those who are facing reality.

I dont know about you sam but I use this site as a watchdog site. I let these people search the internet all day in fear of the worst, and present it to me at the end of the day. it saves me countless paranoid hours of searching for the truth on the internet. some meatheads do link things that I can validate through sources making my membership worthwhile. but if your going to take these expendable containers word at face value I pity you. let them work for you in their paranoid seaching frenzy. just remember when they start typing how much percentage of their brain are they using.

to suggest mass evacuation from California before the big one hits is ridiculous. EVERYONE in california knows that "the big one" will happen some day. Key word is some day...some day can be this year...some day can be 10 to 20 years from now.

Being prepared is not evacuating before something that might happen happens. Being prepared is knowing what to do in the event that you are around when it does. Stocking supplies, knowing an escape route, having first aid kits...that IS Preparedness.

Moving away just because something will inevitably happen is absolutely ridculous. You could be hit by a car tomorrow...is that going to stop you from leaving your home?

You can't live in fear of something that might happen or something that is going to happen with no way of being certain when.

Well said. For the most part, IMO, it's best to enjoy ATS as read-only website lest you be drawn into the contempt that members exhibit towards each other. The moderators generally prove ineffectual in remedying this.

@OP: You don't have to start threads or post comments to benefit from this website as an alternative news source.

hey, chill out buddy.

You are NOT the first NOR the last feeling miserable over comments.

It don't mean nothing. Most important of all is to evaluate why you are here. If you truly care and willing to give willingly, from your heart, nothing can break you, unless you expect praises, fame, fortune, glory or trinklets of flags or stars.

I personally commend you on what you had done based upon the best of your beliefs, but your rant is just a mite off the gloss that I had read the long thread.

Take it easy pal. Just because some hurl you insults don't mean nothing nor should you care. After all, it is only insults and you are anonymous. You could be sitting beside him sharing a table at Mcdonalds and are perfectly strangers, with no hate or even love for one another. It don't matter.

What matters more is what you say from your heart and free will, and that is to reach out to others, without fear or favour, as is your right as a fellow human, either to care or be realized any errors along the way. We humans learn something new everday.

But still, it is your choice to stay, learn, grow and mature from it, or just walk away. It will not be your loss, but humanity's. And what goes around comes around one day. Today, we can let ego blind us and be apathetic, but tomorrow, it may be our loved ones whom will suffer for our apathy, as our generation found out.

Every voice matters, stars/flags/brickbats, praise or no.

Take care. Cheers. Thanks for your contribution.

oh yeah because just getting up and leaving your home for a "potential" earthquake they got warned about from some stranger on a conspiracy theory forum is no problem! you do know that in real life, if you're over the age of 18, you PROBABLY have some investment in the state and town of where you live? you have to find a new place to stay - which you propose is where? a new house? a hotel? go buy a condo in colorado? are you privvy to the world outside or are you just 17 years old and have no care in the world yet?

seriously, these stupid earthquake and alien visitation warnings need to stop. i think by this time they're only getting to the front page because so many people are yelling at the OP to go away, but i have a bad feeling a lot of people are going to take this seriously.

and just to confront the point about leaving even if you "knew" it was going to happen. so what? really, SO WHAT? so i know a tsunami is gonna hit the east coast some day and flood maybe 100 miles or so inland, and i only live 20 miles inland. am i going to get up and leave where my family, friends, and school and work are? no, because i'm doing the right thing... which is LIVE your life to the fullest. for all this forum's wisdom and information, there's a huge un-spoken of and sometimes un-acknowledged current running through the psyche of the people on this site...

some of you come on here WAYYYYY too much. and getting your head submerged in all this conspiracy theory stuff at first is good and healthy, but most take it too far, and eventually you start getting carried away with it. you need to seek balance in your life to stay happy and not let this TEOTWAWKI paranoia take hold of you and destroy your ability to love life and enjoy it while you can. seriously OP just get a life and leave these people alone. stop warning people about stuff that's obviously going to happen in the Ring of Fire, and advising them to dismantle their lives to go live up in some mountains with no plumbing and living off the land or whatever crappy relocation idea anyone has. it's just not realistic, OR helpful. go away, thank you.

Best I can do is live in a part of LA that faces less potential danger than others.. I'm 25 miles from the ocean, not on a hill or mountain side, not near any tall buildings. And if it's big enough that the whole city goes under water.. well I guess it'll be a crazy ride

the likelihood of the whole city going under water is very low. SF has had two major earthquakes in 1906 and 89 and while the did mess up parts of the city built on fill, or not built to withstand such activity, it did not submerge the state.

People like to predict epic doom and gloom because it likely gives their lives meaning. Many have been fed a diet of disaster movies that show epic damage of an unbelievable scale, and I suspect many think they want to witness something of that degree because it 'looks cool'.

But there is little scientific basis for such epic levels of destruction. CA has seen many earthquakes, and the state is still there.

I've been wanting to move from CA for a very long time, not just because of the earthquake threat but because I just don't like it here in general. I was born and raised in So. Cal. If I could pack up tomorrow and get my rear end out of here, I definitely would, but it's just not an option for me...don't have any way to.

The best thing we can do it just be prepared and hope that when a huge one hits, everyone is prepared.

Well as time passes in this thread California hasn't had anything extravagant, let's hope it remains calm. But just be prepared people, it's like going on a boat without life preservers-to live there without being prepared, and having a backup plan and food-you don't wanna wait for fema to bring you food, could be....never.

I had a big fear about earthquakes. but now i am relax because i have been watchin www.dkos.org
In this site, you will see the big relation between weather condition and earthquake. A turkish man, (probably will be a scientist after his exploration) has been researching it without stopping after the big earthquake in Turkiye which magnitude was 7.4 in 1999.

Big earthquakes ALWAYS give some signals hints before at least 5 or 10 days..( especially clouds, strong winds, heavy rain.just watch this site and don't fear anymore
